i think it's funny when people say "yeah the writers use they/them for this character but that doesn't necessarily mean the character is nonbinary" because i guess it's true but by that logic i can say "yeah this character is referred to with he/him but they never say he's a man so i can do whatever i want" which i may actually start doing because it sounds based as fuck. if you want me to believe that action hero is a man maybe you should've been more direct about it smh.

i have mixed feelings about the new season of marvel rivals but you know what I don't have mixed feelings about? These voicelines with ororo, logan and emma (you'll have to skip around the video to hear them all but this is the video i found). they're so good. they're all so sweet to eachother.
i blew up my rivals friends' groupchat when i finished listening to these
the rest of the lines are kinda just. fine. groot talking is always jarring to me because I don't go to guardians. except the star lord one it makes me mad that they're referencing that dumbass plot even if in context of the game he sounds apologetic about it. idgaf.
youtube
somebody sedate me why is marvel rivals the best xmen timeline as of recently (its on krakoa thats why.)
the phoenix run is currently so good and so is storms this really is the summer of the x-women

Hey! American here who graduated highschool in 2021 and has been taking community college classes ( very liberal campus)
serveral more things to note about my perspective I took honors us history in highschool AND I have family on both sides who have been in this area and a part of just about every american conflict since the Revolution and up until Iraq so I was bound to maybe learn more/care more about it than other people my age? I joke to my british friend that eagles caw in my veins.
Your question really gets into more the inequalities in the education system due to state regulations and the widely held beliefs in the state you live in here than anything else. Hell it varies school district to school district, you may have heard about Central York, a school district in my home state of Pennsylvania; banned 300+ materials because of their DEI contents back in 2021. Article here and here. They later undid this due to backlash. It seems to have been buried in search results because finding these articles was hard.
So yes, I did learn about american history. Why colonialism and slavery was bad. And about all the women who were very important to this country. And the civil rights movement, as in highschool we watched MLKs speeches, and read I am Rosa Parks (the picture book) in elementary school. In ap history we took a bus trip to Washington DC and took a tour of the monuments and the holocaust museum.
And we rehashed the revolution and why we really hate tyrants pretty much every year, and took a trip to independence hall.
Every year on 9/11 (I was born two years after in 2003) we were forced to watch the news reports as early as 5th grade (people jumping out of buildings and all). I am however old enough to have watched schoolhouse rock on the rolling tv cart, though, and "I'm just a bill" will foreever be stuck in my head.
Hell, actually I can't really remember learning about a country outside of the US in history class since we learned about ancient cultures in middle school. So roughly 85% of our 12 grades of schooling is US history. We had two years of US history and then two years of American Government. There was definitely a shift towards the end of my schooling but not super noticeable because of how much of a swing-state PA is, but not too much because my area is relatively blue, policy wise.
Honestly I'd say my schooling made me as left leaning as I am and why I find voting important. I now vollenteer on election days to run the polls.
EDIT I LOST THE PLOT OF YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION yes we learned about the importan factors of womens sufferage and about the amendment that allowed it to occur and the important women involved! that was in the second US history portion of HS and the logistics of it in US Government!
i hope this makes sense its like 3am and this may have ended up a ramble lol id like to see the perspective of someone not in the northeast and/or is still in school too!! i ki nd of. avoided what you asked originally too to talk about everything else i coukd remember
I have a very serious and very genuine question for Americans, specifically Americans who have either finished schooling or who are still in school. This is a genuine question.
How much of the standard curriculum, roughly, focuses on US history? Of that, how much focus is given to civil rights movements, specifically women's suffrage?
I'm asking because not only have I just seen a video of Candace Owens trying to claim that feminism was a CIA plot, but also in the responses to that video, that women "naturally gained their rights in a changing world." Not only are these beliefs entirely ahistorical, but they're also extremely shallow and harmful representations of a massively important civil rights movement.
So now I have to know. How much are you taught about the Suffragette movement in school? Are you taught about it at all? Is it a topic that you would need to pursue higher education to learn about?
This is not a jab at Americans or their educational system, because Australia doesn't teach about women's suffrage or feminism in history classes either (at least it didn't while I was in school).
If there's anyone here who has multiple perspectives (ie, you've finished schooling but someone you know is still in school, or vice versa), I would love to know if there's been a notable shift in the curriculum.
