Essays on maus by art spiegelman Art Spiegelman Critical Essays
At this point, Vladek admits that Anja had written her own Holocaust memoirs after the war. Art Spiegelman Critical Essays. Maus: A Survivor's Tale I: My Father Bleeds History and Maus: A Survivor's Tale II: And Here My Troubles Began Art Spiegelman. Has also written under the pseudonyms Joe Cutrate, Al Flooglebuckle, and Skeeter Grant) Swedish-born American graphic novelist, illustrator, editor, essayist, nonfiction writer, and children's writer. The following entry presents criticism on Spiegelman's two-volume graphic novel Maus: A Survivor's Tale I: My Father Bleeds History (1986) and Maus: A Survivor's Tale II: And Here My Troubles Began (1991) through 2001. Spiegelman's two-volume graphic novel Maus: A Survivor's Tale chronicles the struggles of comic book artist Artie Spiegelman as he interviews his father Vladek, a Polish Jew, regarding Vladek's experiences as a survivor of the Holocaust, Nazi Germany's massacre of six million Jews during World War II. The work skillfully utilizes a graphic novel format of illustrated panels accompanied by narration and dialogue in a complex and richly nuanced story. The plot recounts Vladek's experiences in Auschwitz, a Nazi concentration camp, and the difficult interpersonal dynamics that can manifest between Holocaust survivors and their children. Spiegelman uniquely portrays his father's story as an epic parable of the Holocaust, representing the Jewish characters as mice and the Nazi characters as cats. Through Spiegelman's innovative use of the comic book medium, Maus puts into question traditional notions of history, memory, and narrative, offering a fresh perspective on the legacy of the Holocaust. Spiegelman was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 1992, acknowledging his achievement with Maus. Spiegelman was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1948 to Vladek and Anja Spiegelman, both Holocaust survivors. As a young child, his family emigrated to the United States, where he grew up in Rego Park, New York. At the age of thirteen, Spiegelman was illustrating for his school newspaper, and at age fourteen, he had already sold artwork to the Long Island Post newspaper. He attended the High School for Art and Design in New York and later attended Harpur College (now State University of New York at Binghampton). After leaving Harpur in 1968, Spiegelman began working for Topps, a novelty and trading card company, with whom he remained affiliated for the next twenty-five years. Also in 1968, Spiegelman's mother, Anja, committed suicide. His father later remarried a fellow Holocaust survivor.... View more ...

If the Bildungsroman has been considered a primarily German genre, it has been for reasons that are extra-literary in nature. Based on their classification, they are then asked to comment on a different image from a fund-raising campaign. Example of a dissertation abstract. Date published October 19, 2016 by Sarah Vinz. Date updated: March 24, 2017. An abstract is a brief yet thorough summary of your research. Its purpose is to provide readers with a clear overview of what you have investigated and your corresponding conclusions. You can write your abstract in either the simple present or present perfect tense. It should not be longer than one page in total. For more tips, see our guide to writing an abstract (executive summary). Several non-profit environmental organizations are trying to counter the adverse effects of climate change. To finance their activities, they require donations. However, in today's society the number of people who donate to environmental organizations is decreasing, which is creating a funding gap. If organizations are to be able to continue their work, the number of donations must increase. The aim of this study is to determine how individuals' intentions to donate to an environmental organization can be increased. To this end, the research question is as follows: To what extent does a potential donor's social distance to the victims of climate change portrayed in fund-raising campaigns affect his or her intention to make a donation? In this context, social distance is the extent to which people feel they are in the same social group (i.e., in-group) or another social group (i.e., out-group) in relation to climate change victims. The research question is answered through an experiment that entails distributing an online questionnaire to respondents. These respondents are randomly divided into two conditions (namely large and small social distance).... View more ...

Defining essay love Definition Essay Love
Definition Essay: Love. Love is something that means very different things to different people. For some, love can be purely romantic, or even purely sexual. For others, real love is utterly unconditional and only truly exists between family members, or between people and a deity. And for some people, love is fluid, ever changing, and everywhere, and is felt for family, friends, partners, pets, and even inanimate objects, dead artists, and fictional characters. None of these people would be right or wrong, but one thing is certain: love is the most powerful force in the entire universe. Between partners of any description, be they married or cohabiting, boyfriend and girlfriend, straight or gay, young or old, love is a relationship of mutual understanding and respect. Marriages and partnerships are often built on common ground that people find when they first meet; this can be as deep as sharing religious, philosophical or religious beliefs, or as simple as finding that you love the same film, book, or band. This kind of love is often reliant on some kind of ‘chemistry’: that strange feeling that they give you in the pit of your stomach, and the feeling that nothing in the world is more important to you than enjoying the moment you’re in together. Some people feel that they experience love at first sight, where they know from the minute they set eyes on each other that they want to to be with that person, but something built on common interests and understanding must be stronger. A parent’s love for a child can also often be described as love at first sight, but this is very strong because it comes from a natural instinct to protect our offspring. This love can often start before the baby is even born: you only have to look at the pride and excitement of many parents-to-be when they have their scans and feel their baby kick for the very first time. This kind of love is also felt by a child for its mother; it is unconditional for at least the first few years of life, and can also be felt between siblings. It is the strength of this feeling that makes love the most powerful emotion that most of us will ever experience. People can do some dreadful things out of hate and fear, but love can push us to do much, much worse. And it is often love that can cause us to hate, whether it’s out of jealousy, or anger because our loved one has been hurt. Love, ultimately, is a sacrifice, whatever the relationship, and it must be the most powerful force in the universe because as human beings, we make true sacrifices for nothing less. Researchers often talk about the same processes — just in somewhat different ways.... View more ...

diversity literature review in higher education the next research agenda The Literature Review
Whatever organizing scheme you choose, it is typical to present the most important, relevant, or strongest collection of existing research first, and go from there. The Literature Review. Nancy Rivenburgh writes that graduate students should consider its purpose before organizing and writing a crucial part of research papers. From seminar paper to M.A. Its preparation requires careful planning and a well-crafted presentation. The purpose of the literature review. A literature review tells us what is known by sharing the results of prior studies related to your own. A literature review places your study within a larger body of work. It shows how your study seeks to fill a gap in, or extend, our knowledge in this area. A literature review offers a benchmark for assessing your own results. In the conclusion to your study you will revisit the literature review armed with your new findings. Organizing the literature review. A good literature review is a synthesis of prior research presented in a way that adds value to our understanding of that work. So, it’s important to organize your review in a way that is coherent, relevant to your own study, and useful to other researchers. For example, you might cluster prior research by media type, communication situation, similar findings, key themes, respondent type, or other useful distinction. If not, there should be a narrative logic to the review presentation. Another way to add value is to identify conceptual linkages among ideas and authors. Researchers often talk about the same processes — just in somewhat different ways.... View more ...

Instead of truly having it as a postgrad program, the teach you the exact same courses again that they teach in their undergrad program. Same professor, same book, same lecture slides. Not even the classroom changes! The only difference is that they can earn even more money that way for these programs. What surprises me even more than that is the fact that there are no admissions tests whatsoever. So anyone who has a bachelors degree will get in, never mind that they vary in time depending which country you are from. Some took a bachelors from some country where it only takes 2 years and you learn nothing, others took 4-5 years. Australian schools don't seem to care though as long as they pay in the money. The most absurd thing is that most of the students that go there don't even seem to speak English that well. I have no clue how they get in, but I am really surprised that these schools in Australia don't have any internal language tests before they let them start the program. I kind of think that they don't have them as they would not pass them. Hence, they would not study there and pay in those ridiculous fees. Most students I met only study in Australia because they did not fulfill the requirements to study in other countries. Not sure if anyone has ever been there and witnessed it, but Australian universities are a joke.... View more ...

Love means to me a feeling of deep affection to another person truly.I believe that love does exist in one part, but the other it does not.I am saying this because you may believe it does because people may like or love the person their with and stay with them forever to show they do love them.Love exist for everyone at one point.Love may mean everything to a person,so they stay with the person they love till the end.You can feel love, but cant see it.exist means to have something real,so i am saying does love exist.I think that on the other part it does not because you may not stay with that person forever and then go with another person. So to that person love comes and goes so for them they sometimes do or dont believe it exist even if their with that person for sometime they may get tired of being with them, because that love can end in a while.Something that you cant see does not exist so love does not but then does.So people have different opinions about love. The Impact of the Internet on People’s Lives in the Last Decade BBC NEWS, Have Your Say, How has new technology changed your life
Once the UK Disabled Accessibility laws are fully implemented in '04 even more websites will be accessible to Audio Screen Readers and computer Braille displays. The Impact of the Internet on People's Lives in the Last Decade. The impact of new technology, especially in the developed world, is apparent all around us in the way we communicate, run business and understand the world. But the new century has seen questions arise about how rapid and how extensive the information revolution will be. Will the internet turn out to be a radical force for uniting and democratising the world, as some have prophesied - or will it cause deeper divisions between the haves and the have-nots? Delegates to a United Nations summit on information technology in December failed to approve practical measures to deliver the internet and other technologies to the world's poorest regions. Despite agreement on lofty principles, negotiators could not agree on key questions such as whether a UN agency should be created to govern the internet and whether to create a separate fund for projects to close the technology gap between rich and poor nations. How have computers, the internet, e-mail and mobile phones changed your life? Should information technology be available to all? Are there downsides as well as upsides to these technological advances? How have they changed the way we do business? This debate is now closed. Here is a selection of your comments. My husband and I are attempting to be luddites here - we don't have mobiles or a computer at home, and our only 'phone is in the bedroom attached to an answering machine. As you can see we like to escape technology in our free time! Janet, Morecambe, UK. Yes the new technology brought many changes to my life. Specially the internet and the mobile phones....
