Predictions and Wishes
Vampire Slayer Monster; something akin to Tormented Demons. Could drop more vampire hunter gear, maybe a parts for a Stab Armor Set.
Dire Nail Beasts, new Nail Beast weapon
Dangerous but rewarding fishing method, more blisterwood trees
I bet we gotta do work gathering blood for Vanescula if she survives. Some sort of combat activity. Or perhaps “blood farming”
Dusting off the old osrs musings account to theorycraft about Vampirium
We’ll definitely have more vampire enemies to fight, so an expansion to the vampire arsenal makes sense. Upgrade for the flail obviously. Perhaps blisterwood arrows/bolts for range?
Mage against vampires feels a little less exact. Maybe just a blisterwood staff? Maybe a “Tome of Efaritay” to let spells hit vampires?
Since this is a zone unlocked after a grandmaster Im imagining something in a similar vain to priffdinas, content wise. I would certainly love to see another high gp/hr skilling method. Maybe something for woodcutting or fishing. I still really enjoy skilling encounters and want to see more.
Also i want to see more nail beasts. They always looked so alien, i like to think they came over as well. Give me one that’s really big and loud.

Nothing too wild for osrs announcements this year but pretty solidly positive i think
honestly wasn't expecting Sailing to be projected for this year, was sort of thinking we wouldn't get it until january 2026. i imagine that will have a very long tail of seconary updates as they fill it out. The alpha looked very nice, wasn't expecting so much detail to be done already.
I do hope they find a slightly more elegant way to quarter off the unsailable sees than just a line of rocks but hey, it gets the idea across quickly at least. also while they did show Menaphos on the map, I imagine we won't be getting in there quite yet.
For me the most exciting stuff is still just getting to see more of the Varlamore stuff (and Sailing, but that's going to just be a longer road overall). But i am hopeful the stuff with the morytania finale is cool.
My mind definitely goes to wondering where that next raid they mentioned will be. My bet is probably fremmenik because we still have a storyline to finish there and Acheron is still a place we can go in the future. A fun alternative though would be a raid a little more central to the core of osrs, like put it by the temple of ikov, make it feel a little more classic dungeons and dragonsy.

Alright, i have taken a bit of a break from runescape. I’ve been very focused on personal projects and not gaming too much, but i am still excited for runefest announcements. I’m in a good spot where i don’t have too much I’m specifically waiting out for, but there’s a few things i got my fingers crossed for.
Here’s my hopes:
Maregubbene’s hall and king kyatt from the last game jam
Menaphos gets added as a Priffdinas style city as part of a desert grandmaster finale
Sailing is gonna take a while so just give us archaeology in the meantime.
Another raid would be cool, but i’m not a huge raider so now major loss if not

obviously the survey is mostly just corporate handwringing. my hope is with community response and dev pushback the worst of it we'll see is no more rs3 as a pack in for osrs players (not sure if they would because i bet their sole intent with that is to get more people into the microtransaction ecosystem).
i definitely would consider paying a bit more for a second character but that second character would be a group ironman, and my group is very casual (they play runescape for a few days every 1 or 2 years). I think one thing they could do is offer a package that sorta lets you "sponsor" teammates for a lower price. Maybe you pay a bit extra for an "iron bond" that can't be sold and can only be traded to members of your iron group.

Slightly bummed the osrs team gutted the doom boss rewards based on feedback from redditors. But of course now the result is other redditors are doomsaying the NEW changes.
Overall i think the changes are fine. I think changing the mage cape to be more like the inferno cape is pretty silly but I guess it’s mostly for that tier of player regardless. (If anything i was mostly hoping the bis mage cape wouldn’t be a cape. Like rangers have a quiver magers should have like… idk an imp that hangs on your back? An owl perched on your shoulder?)
Mostly what bums me is just how unfun the changes feel. Were there a ton of use cases for a melee spec with an aoe burn? Maybe not but finding them/seeing it work would’ve just been enjoyable. Plus you can always just design future content with the possibility of its use in mind.
A thrall upgrade for ammo slot sounds like it has a lot of potential! Making it a dps boost based on positioning is pretty underwhelming but the response shouldn’t be “kill it” it should be to find the fun in it. Fuck it, lean into the mechanic, make it a game for the whole team and make it buff players it travels through or something. It’s optional! People who chase metas aren’t gonna have fun anyway. They just want new bis, they don’t get this whole “horizontal progression” thing devs go for.

I’m still just so interested in Maregubenne’s Hall/King Kyatt from the game jam i REALLY hope they both make it in
That could honestly keep me coming back to fremennik in future leagues

alright, i made my 4 page route document that i THINK gets 90 tasks for the league, i based it off of doubleshine's route last year so if they removed some what were on here it might be under
i did sort of a sloppy job actually recording what task some of these steps do but nevertheless. killing random mobs seems like the best way to fill in the new gaps

my hope is at some point in the future the warped dungeon will open into Arposandra and that will have content that makes Kandarin more appealing in the future
ranking my favorite "SAVE KANDARIN" reveal theories (half of which are serious suggestions i saw on 07scape comments and half of which are shitpost ideas i just made up on the spot):
Barbarian assault high gambles can roll raid megarares
Broad minigame buff, something like doubling all bonuses from all minigame rewards armor while also speeding up obtaining them. penance set becomes like a more powerful void, castlewars armor becomes like justiciar or something. angler's outfit gives like 20% bonus fishing xp instead of 2.5%. [i guess this would have to specifically not apply to all minigames though because otherwise... void just becomes way more OP and Kand still is lamer than Asgarnia lol]
MEGA PIETY!!!! it's like Piety but more pious. if you get Piety the proper way thru knights waves it's just twice as strong because PIIIIIETY!!!!
CHINCHOMPIES!!! -> the red chinchompas and chompy birds have gotten into unholy crossbreeding... every chompy kill instead of a raw chompy bird you get Chinchompy, which is like a chinchompa but stronger than black chins. they also give hunter XP that's better than black chins.
Ardy Knights are better paid now and provide 1m per pickpocket
DEMONIC GORILLA THRALLS. killing demonics gives you a chance to get an item like guardian horn but it summons a demonic gorilla to be your thrall. with same stats as a real demonic gorilla.
wait on that topic, LUXURY DEMON BUTLER. demon butler can now be summoned in the overworld, not just in your POH, and can bank/store stuff for you. kinda like a pack yak.
NICE GUY STEVE. steve now lets you pick your own slayer task at will, just because he's a good guy. no other slayer master will do this for you.
some "elemental weaknesses everywhere" relic/combat mastery to make thermy echo drop equal to or better than any other "max" mage setup
Fishing trawler is just the bug-abuse version that josh isn't gaming bug abused now. but by default. 1m fishing xp per hour before any multipliers.
"kandarin will actually be free" "kandarin will be combined with tiranwnn" - not this league lmao, could see it happening in a future league but nah i dont want it here it would be kinda weird after they've already announced unlockable regions from the get-go and also combined they would probably become too OP and then circle back to the issue of feeling like an obligatory pick for lots of people rather than continuing the trend thus far of reveals making lots of different picks feel good & viable (except kandarin) (SO FAR)

Brighter Shores: Early Thoughts
I've put about 10 hours into brighter shores now. I've gotten far enough into the second area that i've unlocked a faction (hammermage) and with the amount of time I have currently available to me I don't expect to put much more than casual dabbles into it but I think I get the idea of what it's overall image would be.
Brighter Shores is definitely in the same family as runescape but i think it uses those mechanics to make something that feels more like a late web 2.0 mmorpg than a graphicMUD. The way screens work is reminiscent of maplestory or aqworlds, but the activities you do are more reminiscent of runescape. So let me just get some thoughts out of the way by answering some basic questions:
Is it worth playing?
For the most part, I think so! The writing is well enough and the gameplay is very chill. The membership is also a very fair $5 so it's not a big monetary investment.
How does it compare to runescape?
It is even more of an idle game than runescape. It might not seem so at first glance with all the clicking but once you get into the game it becomes clear a lot of the skilling systems are grinds are grinding's sake and there even activity your character can do while you're logged out. The fact all your health comes back between fights and the lack of inventory management/prayers leads me to believe this game will never have stuff like raids or pvp, this game is very much a mobile mmo (even if it's only on pc right now). Shifting my perspective on this game from a runescape successsor to a runescape inspired mmo experience for touch screens really improved my view of it. I think your mom would probably love Brighter Shores, I can very clearly see her tapping away at it on her ipad at work.
Brighter shores seeks to emulate early game runescape/early mmo chill vibes exclusively and i think it has a lot of value in that.
What's up with the episodic combat skills???!
It's just a different way of displaying the progression you always have to do in mmo's. It's a way of letting you do zones adjacently in a way where they'll both be compelling. Is regearing for a new area a bit tedious? a little. But really it doesn't feel any different from going to a new zone/expansion in an mmo and needing to gear up/fight basic ass dudes again for a bit.
It's clear Andrew Gower likes low level mmo play more than max level play and built this system to prolong that state of play. I think any ludonarrative dissonance it causes is totally excusable for the amount of gameplay it provides.
I mean, we play these games because deep down we enjoy the grind, why not present a system that makes it easier to expand on that?
What's actually bad about it?
The tight corridor maps are sort of a slog to move through. Catching enemy aggro and needing to escape feels weird, like not a bad idea really but the way it physically feels is like... ugly. Needing two clicks to do everything is.... annoying.
The game world doesn't really breath either. While i don't mind the episode specific skills there's just a feeling of disconnect between everything. It feels like a modern mmo in that way.
What's good about it?
I love the look of it. the diorama look of the world is very pleasing. even if the gear/enemies so far don't look that interesting moving around scenes and seeing the town has a pleasing feel.
What would I change?
I don't think I'd change anything. This is clearly fitting the vision of a small team and i think the way's it's wonky/different will help it stand out and fit in better with older audiences who like slower games.
But having a one click to attack/fish/forage/etc would be highly appreciated.
Will I keep playing it?
probably nooooot? I just love the big, interconnected feel of runescape's world. I think if this came to mobile i could see it being something i poke at in my downtime at work but it's not really an immersive experience, it's an experience for people who love to watch number go up. If that's the only reason you played runescape this might be for you!

honestly one of the project zanaris server options you should be able to set is "allow bots"
i love the idea of someone turning an osrs server into factorio, just totally automated

I'm still really interested in what Combat Masteries for Leagues 5 will be like. I think one thing that is sort of a problem with the current combat relics is it makes you want to never use the other two styles you didn't pick. So an easy, fun thing for combat masteries to do is give spaces of hybridization to actively encourage you to switch it up.
It's hard to imagine to what extent until we know more about how the system works. But I imagine they will sort of be like mini-relics in terms of scale. anyway here's some ideas I had for what hybrid masteries might look like below the read more.
(imagine these three as exclusive to each other)
Prodigal Warrior - A percentage of your Strength also applies to Ranged Strength and you gain a small amount of Magic Damage based on your equipped gear's Strength. Reduces the accuracy penalty of melee gear.
Telekinetic Mastery - Magic weapons that can auto-cast spells gain a new spell "Telekinetic Sling." This spell launches whatever ranged ammunition you currently have equipped. This is treated as a ranged attack that uses magic damage from your gear combined with the ranged strength of ammunition used.
Elemental Quiver - You gain a Quiver that can be equipped in the back slot for bonus ranged accuracy, ranged strength, and magic damage. This Quiver can be set to either Air, Water, Earth, or Fire and while equipped your attacks with ranged weapons become magic attacks of the same element, using your ranged accuracy and ranged strength but also increased by magic damage %. This behavior can be toggled off while the quiver is equipped.

Even if the tools stay on jagex servers it’ll still give incentive to keep them up longer if interested players help front the cost of servers.
Also on one hand i do think this good get some people who like private servers back into the ecosystem to play on main servers. Like most of them are just cheapskates but for some of them the ease of letting jagex host might be preferable.
Even if osrs gets a bit fractured I don’t think there’s anything in the game that would be terribly hurt if the servers are a bit less populated.
i don't think people realize how important the osrs community servers are
like, these servers will potentially allow for game preservation when jagex eventually shuts down the servers. that's huge

I go to video games to escape the stress of work
Then i gotta go back to work to get away from gamers
I’m glad people complain when dumb annoyances like membership price increases happen cause I don’t exactly love them either
But i don’t really have it in me to get heated about the thing I use to escape the stress of life
