rewatching the under the red hood movie and i gotta say as much as i love jason’s speech to bruce about how mad he is that the joker’s still alive, i still maintain that a severely underrated speech in this movie is from ra’s when he’s talking to bruce and in essence says ‘yeah so i hired the joker to distract you which was my bad because he totally went overboard and killed your son :/ and i felt so guilty i decided not to try and fight you anymore and then i stole your son’s corpse and tried to revive him via lazarus pit so i could like. make amends. except that was also my bad because we fucked that one up real good and when he came back out BOY was he weird in the head. killed my guys and then fucking jumped out a window and we lost him. my bad. and i thought he’d died again but apparently he’s in gotham and is like. totally destroying your whole lives which again, my bad. shouldn’t have tried to help. sorry about that. i’ll just stay out of your business from now on.’ which is actually the funniest characterisation of ra’s i’ve ever seen

Y'all ever think about the way video game bosses are designed to lose? How the bombastic soundtracks, the impressive displays of villainy, the teeth-rattling power of their attacks, are at once engineered not just to sell you on how unfathomably strong and vile they are, but also to make the player's inevitable victory all the sweeter?

Viewed this way, a boss battle is more like a choreographed dance - they call, you respond and counter-call. The trick is to learn the steps - once you know where to move, when to strike, when to defend and how to best allocate your resources, victory is not just achievable but actually almost impossible to avoid. You cannot help but recite the winning plays, over and again, because that is what the dance demands of you both - and is there not a savage sort of beauty in such a thing?

Is it any wonder then that we look back on these bosses so fondly, almost as if they were old friends? We danced together once, and oh what fun we had while doing it!

Have just finished Kimmy by Alyson Greaves and my brain is full of worms (warning for incredibly unstructured review/reccomendation)

(Very) Basically, the premise is a man gets trapped inside of a female android and The Trans Experience happens to her.

Be warned if you want to read this book that it covers a lot of very sensitive topics such as; sexual assault, rape, and dehumanization.

This next bit gets into spoiler territory, so yeah, But even before the pov character is able to put on the chassis of the android she has to diet for months and even after all of that she doesn't quite fit because of her physical size so the first section of the book is basically a description of how physically uncomfortable it is to try to force herself into the shape of a woman. And even throughout the rest of the book a point is made of her being "off spec" and her walk being a give away that she isn't actually an android. And yeah it's a very obvious metaphor for the pressure to loose weight and change different aspects of yourself in order to fit into the idea of what a woman "should" look like, but it's still really impactful, to me at least. Anyways read it, it's on z-library and itchio.

I also wanted to get into her programming being just the expectations that all women have forced on them, but i dont have the brain cells currently to write that even half well so I might come back to it later
