Heyyy !! Thank you so much for this blog, it's a goldmine and makes it way easier to navigate the spirk fics ! I have a quite specific request, so I am aware it may be difficult to find anything similar. I've just read a spones fanfic where McCoy is hanging off the cliff with only Spock to save him, but the scene sends him into ptsd as he recalls his mother falling off a cliff and he couldn't save her. I hadn't read any other stories where Spock is forced to confront a similar situation to his ptsd after star Trek 2009, and I was wondering if you knew of any ? With a spirk twist of course ^^

From the author's notes: i feel like spock in the aos has a weird thing about heights after his mother's death, but of course it's illogical so he tries to ignore it...idk i think putting spock's loved ones on tall buildings would freak him the HELL out

So yeah, even if it's not really a cliff, I think it fits. Also this is one of the fics that I reread often ngl. It's very honest, and vulnerable.

In the Classic episode "Immunity Syndrome," Spock felt the death of 400 Vulcans on a nearby ship so strongly that McCoy had to escort him off of the bridge. When the Narada destroyed Vulcan, billions died. There have to be long-term, serious consequences to that for the surviving Vulcans, and especially for Spock, who shipped off with the Enterprise almost right away. It just might take a while to show.

Sink or Swim (How to Drown on Dry Land) (AOS, 1574 words) by ifdragonscouldtalk

The push of the cold water against his open eyes stung, painfully, his aching head struggling to keep up with the sudden change in pressure and temperature, and it was instinct that kept his mouth and nose closed from taking in any of the water. He had only gotten half a breath before they’d thrown him in, and although Vulcans had a greater lung capacity than Humans, it didn’t matter if he couldn’t save himself. He let the bubbles out slowly, knowing the buildup of carbon dioxide in the lungs was often what made the increased pressure in the chest which led to a breath full of water, and made an effort to keep himself calm. He never did seem to realize he was sinking until it was already over his head. He had realized too late his mother was sinking, realized too late that he was compromised, too late, too late, too late, sinking deeper and deeper. It had taken him too long to learn how to swim.

No one's asked for this yet but rest assured I made this blog because I love to yap about fanfic, and it's kind of embarrassing if your best friend isn't in the same fandom as you lol. To be honest, as a college student I don't really have much time for long form fics, BUT I have read quite a few, and I really hope that you'll like them. Since you didn't specify if you wanted plot-heavy as in mission level or plot heavy as in deep exploration of relationship dynamics, I just gave you a healthy mix of both:

It's Not An Illusion (AOS, 118714 words) by Borealisblue

The Enterprise comes across a mysterious planet with a series of caves that manifest copies of loved ones. These copies are taken from a person’s mind to allow them to confront and heal the turmoil in their heart. The copies are perfect replicas in every way, including their memories and personalities. But Jim is shocked when a copy of Spock shows up professing love for him and while he had never considered falling in love with his first officer, this copy allows him to explore the possibility. The real Spock would never have to know. The copy’s touch is electric and his body is warm and inviting, there’s just one problem, Jim doesn’t realize, it’s not a copy.

The plot is more them being idiots but it IS a mission fic HAHAHA.

Refractions (Series) (AOS, 58422 words total) by bigmamag

Two separate parallel universes merge with their own as the Enterprise is sent to an unknown planet where a dangerous phenomenon is destroying ships and expanding outward.

The first work in this series is focused on the mission aspect, but the next 3 fics are about building the backstory and context between the Jim's and Spock's of the alternate universes. My personal favorite from this series is story #3- Somewhere Where They Can Forget.

A Second Chance (Sounds Fake) (AOS, WIP, 28364 words) by Bibarian

Here's the thing: Jim might have woken up in the past. He might have also woken in an alien simulation or a telepathic recreation of his past. This might even be a whole other reality. But, with no way to be sure, there's really only one decision to make. As long as the chances aren't zero, Jim has to try to stop the upcoming destruction of Vulcan. What makes this goal that much harder is doing it without looking insane. Or actually going insane as he constantly doubts his reality.

I love this one. It's ongoing and I'm currently subscribed-- it's just really good!

She’s her own individual, sure, but they’re the ones who made her. And Bones. Bones had something to do with it. Jim’s red blood and Spock’s green blood and this steady, soothing heartbeat.

Ok, note that its not mpreg. What really makes this fic shine is how Spock and Jim get closer and closer as they communicate and bare themselves openly with each other, deepening their connection.

What To Do When Your In Laws Are Ambassadors (TOS, 19188 words) by Solid_Medical_Advice

The Enterprise is set to pick up delegates from across the Federation and take them to a meeting where they will determine the fate of a (as of now) non-Federation planet. Professionally, this is not a problem for Captain James T. Kirk. Personally, it is a little bit weird to pretend the ambassador of Vulcan and his wife aren't his boyfriend's parents. Journey to Babel but Kirk and Spock are dating and pretend they're not.

Ok, this is an established relationship fic, but the friendship aspect is heavily explored here-- how they're friends first and lovers second, etc.

After Kirk receives a vaccine from McCoy he begins having strange dreams, each of which brings him a little closer to his First Officer.

After the events in City on the Edge of Forever, Spock suggests that he and Jim spend some time on Vulcan. Turns out it's not a great place for a vacation, but is plenty good for pining.

i’ve become obsessed with kirk interacting with little vulcans. any recs?

Hello Nonny! Whew I'm back from that hiatus, finally. Anyways, I have a couple of favorites, which I will now be listing in order of how much I love them <3 Ok first of is what I would call the T'Lira saga (though that is not the proper name), but just know that this one particular Vulcan baby features heavily in all these fics and she's SO FUCKING PRECIOUS. These fics are by CMMA3, and are unfortunately not grouped together in a series, so I will just be linking the fics in the correct order that they come in. Note: T'Lira is Spirk's lil baby and is a product of mpreg (Spock was the carrier this time lol, spoiler XD) so fair warning if you don't like mpreg. Anyways you can skip the mpreg by just reading the stories set after she was born lmaoo (which is where most of Kirk interacting with a Vulcan kid factors in)

Ok I know that the summaries are vague as hell (summaries are not this author's specialty), but trust me these are the best. Everytime I'm in a bad mood I reread T'Lira the Matriarch or T'Lira's Pain cuz those are my faves among those-- but read all the baby T'Lira one shots, they're really cute and heart warming. There's a wholeass universe for this pointy-eared baby, and I cherish it. Ok aside from the T'Lira saga, another fic that features Vulcan kids heavily is this one:

The Best of Blessings at the Worst of Times (AOS, 133530 words) by Bibarian

After the destruction of Vulcan, a crisis occurs involving some of the Enterprise's Vulcan passengers! The crisis is resolved, but Jim comes out of it with more than he bargained for

The crack of rock startled Spock, causing him to bark for a status update from Chekov. basically in both of these fics, Jim gets adopted by baby Vulcans that trauma-bond with him after Nero.

An academy AU + Tarsus aftermath fic in which James T. Kirk ends up accidentally parentally bonded to an orphaned Vulcan child. When the father/daughter duo enroll in Star Fleet, hijinks ensue (mostly at the expense of Spock’s previously immaculate but quickly deteriorating self-control).

But that other, older Spock said that he needed to get command of the ship, and to do so, must get his younger counterpart to acknowledge his emotions. Spock is not the first Vulcan Jim has had dealings with, and he can think of few things that would get T’pri as riled up as quickly as insinuating that she doesn’t love him. He gambles that Spock is the same about his mother, and it pays off. (Or, the one where Jim has a Vulcan daughter, and it leads to all sorts of emotions.)

These 2 fics both have the premise of Jim having a Vulcan daughter that he adopts post-Tarsus IV.

Now for just light interaction in general I have this one:

Will You Be My Fake Boyfriend? (AOS, 70766 words) by yaoichan12

Spock, fed up with Stonn's attempts to elicit an emotional response from him, lies and says he has a significant other. Spock doesn't want to give his cousin the satisfaction of knowing he lied, grabs the nearest beauty he sees and introduces Stonn to his boyfriend, Jim. Jim goes along with it and finds it amusing. Stonn ends up telling the whole family about Jim. Now the family insists that Spock bring Jim to a family gathering on Vulcan. Spock has dug himself a hole but at least Jim agrees to help. Will they be able to keep the ruse going? (Perhaps) Will feelings get in the way of their planned break-up after the gathering? (Definitely) Will Spock's Vulcan family adore Jim? (Of course they will!)

Ok, it's not the main focus of the fic but in this one Jim interacts a lot with Spock's extended family, including his baby cousins.

This was deleted off of AO3, but I've linked a copy from the Wayback machine. Incomplete, but very compelling exploration of an enemies to lovers dynamic.

The Sad Bastard Chronicles (AOS, 23421 words) by sojukitty

This fic is a companion fic to The Sad Bitch Chronicles, which essentially has the same plot as this fic except Jim is a woman. Spock was never going to pick Jim, who people believe is a functioning alcoholic and who sometimes enters the bridge with his gold shirt on backwards. He and Spock have become a force to be reckoned with as far as them being a command team since their time on the Enterprise started 8 months ago but Jim knows the Vulcan still doesn’t like him very much. Yes, they play chess twice a week and they do tend to do their paperwork together in the Ready-room but that doesn’t mean they are friends. Uhura on the other hand has her shit together- she speaks Vulcan fluently, always looks stunning, has her paperwork handing in early and even looks beautiful in does stupid robes she was made to wear for this ceremony. Warnings for extremely dubious consent (Pon Farr)

Now, I'm not really sure if you would consider this to be enemies to lovers but Spock is such an asshole in this one D: Fortunately this fic doesn't fall into the trap where they make Nyota the antagonist (which unfortunately happens in a lot of AOS fics). Lots of hurt, with comfort at the end.

Chess!verse and it's companion sequel, Eye of the Storm (AOS, 15582 and 35853 words) by littlebirdtold

Chess!verse is an AU that follows Jim and Spock being childhood chess rivals who clash and burn together (esp in the wake of teenage hormones). The companion sequel is set after ST 2009, where tensions are high between the Enterprise's Captain and First Officer-- when their counterparts from another universe (happily married and in love) set out to "make things right" by matchmaking the unwilling pair (spoiler: no one appreciates the meddling).

Now this is a classic! littlebirdtold really has a talent for building tension between our favorite pair-- of the hateful and sexy kind. With that in mind, you might also want to try:

#1: Fandom AU. Jim is a fandom nobody who has been crushing on a famous BNF writer for ages. Too bad the BNF in question doesn't know of his existence.
