Sorry, no fic update yet, despite how I said I would soon.

Stress is eating me alive as usual. It keeps increasing, on top of my mental health issues and terrible physical health as well. ):

I want to write so much, draw so much, update my fics… it just feels like my body is against me in it’s entirely, brain and all. Feeling like I’m falling behind and can’t do anything about it. I want to but can’t do these creative things I adore doing so much. Can’t even make myself play the games I like.

Sorry if I’m being a bit too negative, just wanted to leave this update here for anyone who’s hoping for a fic update. It’ll happen, I promise. I just can’t promise it’ll be really soon.

I have a take that may or may not be hot, which is why I’m not tagging it but…

Personally, I just question why men who have long hair in their canon design are made to have short hair in modern AUs. Like… why must they change the length of their hair to be modern?

This is mostly about Hualian and Wangxian, but it does apply to other characters as well who I’ve seen it done to. (Genshin men, for example.)

For me, it’s just real hard to picture some of these guys with super short hair like that. It’s all fiction, so why do fictional modern AUs have to have the “short hair is normal and proper for men” stereotype?

In conclusion, I’ll always draw Hualian and Wangxian with hair no shorter than their shoulders, because I don’t see them cutting it any shorter unless it’s an undercut or something similar. I really wish I wasn’t part of the smaller group of people who keep their hair long, since it feels like a majority of the modern AU art I see has their hair short. (,:

I think modern Xie Lian (both post-canon and in other AUs) would be one of those Instagram users who collects battered and worn items from thrift stores or elsewhere and cleans them up to repurpose them.

He isn’t too tech savvy, so Hua Cheng would be the one helping to manage his account and edit his little clips. Paradise Manor, their house on Mt Taicang, or wherever they live if it’s a non post-canon AU, would be full of his repurposed trinkets and items. Sometimes he’d sell them but after fixing them he often grows attached.

All he wants is for things that hold memories not to go to waste, for things deemed scraps or trash to have a new lease on life. Xie Lian is a very caring person, and I truly think he sees the value in everything, able to find himself attached to items that may be deemed useless by others. Of course Hua Cheng supports him in these endeavors wholeheartedly, and honestly finds it real sweet.

Xie Lian, the master of caring for broken things. 🥹

I 100% agree with the Xie Lian stoat agenda, and support it wholeheartedly because it fits him well. But fox Hua Cheng? Overused. Bunny Xie Lian? Extremely overused, and not fitting to his character.

Reserve the bunny and fox for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, it fits them better…

Now, allow me to spread my Maned Wolf Hua Cheng Agenda.

Similar enough in looks to a fox, but not a fox! Long lanky limbs just like our Ghost King. Even has a jet black mane!

Reject fox, embrace maned wolf. ✨

(Not a jab at anyone who likes Fox HC, or Bunny XL. I just feel that foxes and bunnies representing characters is so overdone, and that the bunny isn’t a fitting animal for XL. I could go on a whole ramble about how Maned Wolf HC and Stoat XL are peak animal matchups for them, lmao.)

Somewhat of a spoiler for Gathering Your Scattered Petals, so don’t read any further if you’d rather read this detail in the fic itself…

When Xie Lian is back together again, I plan on having him use a wheelchair (made by Hua Cheng) due to the immense physical trauma of yk… being severed into 15 pieces for a span of 100 years. I’ll be using this fic to explore the concept of Xie Lian retaining chronic pain from the experience, requiring different forms of aid as he recovers, and afterwards as well due to bad days and his pain never truly ceasing.

But enough rambling, I’m just here to cry over the fact that I suck at designing things and I have no idea where to start at making his wheelchair look custom tailored to him and his aesthetics, bc Hua Cheng would obviously make it the most stunning thing to suit His Highness. 😭 I know where to start I just worry I’ll nitpick it to death bc I cannot design things to save my life.

I can gladly say that I’ve updated my notes and typed up the timeline for Gathering Your Scattered Petals. Now I just need to start the rough planning for what I want to happen this chapter.

I’m really REALLY hoping to get chapter 3 out within a week. I know the feeling of waiting for a long time for a fic to update and I don’t wanna keep anyone waiting any longer. 🥹

Once I sort out the plans for each future chapter I think things will go more smoothly and I won’t be as overwhelmed. If anyone would like to help me in dividing plot up across chapters I’d be ever so grateful, since I’m not the best with that.

Another random poll from me, this time about Xie Lian.

We all know Hua Cheng has 3 signature colors: Red, Black, and Silver. Xie Lian on the other hand only has two, White and Gold.

If he had a third color like Hua Cheng does, what would fit him best? A color that would be a good match to his main color White, along with Gold accents.

For those looking forward to the Hualian modern abandoned building fic, posting to let you all know I’m putting it on hold. (Only for now!)

It has been an entire year since I’ve touched my Xie Lian coffin fic, it is my most popular and loved fic so I honestly just feel worse the longer I go being unable to work on it.

So, at the very least, I’m setting my ‘simple’ goal for today. I’m going to make myself reread the chapters I’ve posted, and organize the timeline + important details to make it easier so I won’t have to reread each time I write a chapter. One of the main reasons my depression has been devastating on me for this fic is due to the heavy amount of plot consistencies that I need for the fic to go smoothly. I’ve already had a few inconsistencies that I fixed in the past and it’s only been 2 chapters and around 7k words…

Honestly having a beta would help this as well, and I think several lovely people have reached out before back when it was a recent fic, but I forgot…

To anyone who wanted to beta for Scattered Petals, I’m sorry if I forgot about you, my memory is awful. If you’re still here reading this feel free to poke me in my dms as often as you’d like for updates on my writing progress or whatnot. This goes for anyone who’s offered to beta for a fic. 🥹

Anyways, that’s my update for today. I wish I could write more often and push out monthly updates at least but depression is a bitch and over the past couple of years it only seems to worsen.

I won’t know the vote on my poll for another 3 hours but if the result is “Normal” I’m disregarding it because man, c’mon… Tgcf fandom needs to be a little more creative with the unspecified parts of Hua Cheng’s design. We already know he’s inhumanly pale, so clearly he must have some other inhuman parts. 😭

I just don’t like seeing Hua Cheng looking like a whole normal human, most people don’t even make him deathly pale like in canon either.

Just y’all wait until I eventually post my list of headcanons for him, or actually finish the personal ref sheet I’m doing of how Hualian look to me.

Despite the debilitating depression, my brain continues to torture me by overwhelming me with inspiration for art and fics that I cannot draw or write. 🥹

The amount of ideas piling up in my notes for fic plots and art concepts is becoming a whole mountain…

Reposting this with tags this time, because my interest in bringing this plot to life hasn’t faded yet and I’m still thinking about it quite a lot.

While my ongoing fics are still too much of a mountain for me to climb right now, would anyone be interested in a Hualian fic based off of those abandoned building exploration videos? Not a long fic, likely no more than 4 chapters. It's been in my notes for a while now. I started watching those videos again and it keeps inspiring me. This also isn’t the only plot I’ve thought up while watching these YouTubers, so you may see my other plot in the future.

The premise is this:

Shi Qingxuan is the creator of a YouTube channel where they, (and He Xuan, who was dragged into this, but doesn't really have any complaints…… not like he'll say that out loud though.) explore abandoned structures throughout the country, and even the globe.

Shi Qingxuan's thrill seeking takes them and He Xuan back near their home and friends. Seeing this chance as both an exclusive video, and a fun time with friends, Shi Qingxuan invites Xie Lian along! To make up for the disappointment of their brother declining the invite, Feng Xin and Mu Qing tag along too, though it's less about fun and more about keeping Xie Lian safe and out of any trouble that may be caused by trespassing onto private property.

To Shi Qingxuan, though, their reason for coming matters not. The location is a couple hours away, so they all buckle up for the road trip ahead of them. it's not until they're in the car, however, that Shi Qingxuan spills the details of their next video location. A Hospital.

Xie Lian never did like hospitals… or anything medical for that matter. But, despite the worries from his two childhood friends, he decides it would be a shame to miss out and disappoint Qingxuan.

What he did not know, though, is that maybe there was more in store for him than he thought. He would come to find that in that quiet, empty hospital, was a Ghost who wished to seek help from him.
