I’d like to say I have cool thematic reasons for loving Daniil but no I just like it when men are a little pathetic and a lot doomed by the narrative and also suffers intense physical and emotional trauma

I think the most tragic thing about Daniil and Eva’s relationship is that I don’t think Daniil actually saw Eva as a person until after her suicide. I got inspired by the IPL Eva concept art tweet and their interactions in P3 and I feel like Daniil saw Eva as a muse, as a mirror, as someone he could bounce his thoughts off of but not a person. In classic you don’t even get that many interactions with her, she doesn’t ask Daniil of anything as his bound, there was only one side quest that involved her on Day 2 and like if you go talk to her she’ll just say she’s thinking about stuff and that her head hurts to which you as Daniil just has some super dismissive things to say to her. She’s the figure you hurry past on your way upstairs, she’s the mirror loitering downstairs, but she’s not a person, at least in Daniil’s eyes, she has no interiority. But when the letter comes from her on the morning of day 7, and when she throws herself off the cathedral it comes like a gut punch to both the player and the character, cause like you kind of realise you never really did know Eva as a person, only an idea of a person.
