yaaaaay hi Loofah! :)

i caught Loofah laying eggs for the first time the other day, meaning she's 100% confirmed to be fully mature now, so i figured a tank upgrade was definitely in order!

she hasnt come out of the Jr. Tube yet, but i hope she'll enjoy exploring when she gathers the courage!

i have a Very Tiny houseguest staying at the motel right now :)

check out THIS little baby!!! i think i spotted the tiniest bud of an ovipositor, so i think shes a girl.

as much as id LOVE to keep her, 6 sprickets is more than enough for me, especially when ive got eggs incubating that could possibly hatch. either way, shes got a nice snack to enjoy until i send her on her way tonight! i hope it can pep her up, and that she can grow up big and strong! :)

hmmmmmmmmm im looking at Poppyseed and she looks... a little thin?

for sprickets, "thinness" manifests as a short butt and, while it could be her stance, Poppyseed's butt looks a bit short to me. i cant help but go into "concerned mother" mode in this situation, particularly because when Baguette passed away (presumably from old age), her butt had shortened to the point of being almost nonexistent. heres a pic of her the day before she died:

im not 100% sure what to do about this. maybe I'll give her a little applesauce snack?

either way, I'll be keeping an extremely close eye on her.

bagels been looking good though, thankfully!

im wondering if females live shorter lives due to how their internal anatomy must differ in order to accommodate egg laying, and that once they kinda... cant lay any more eggs, they start to die? dunno. im trying to find information on the topic but not coming up with any results.

i suppose as i keep sprickets over hopefully many years to come ill start to notice a pattern. Poppyseed is my first (and currently only) captive bred spricket, so i have no solid numbers irt lifespan of a spricket yet. my guess would be a year, and Poppyseed is about to turn 11 months old tomorrow, so...

anyway, im gonna try not to agonize over it all. Poppyseed is active and id like to think happy, to whatever extent sprickets can experience such a feeling. at the very least, her needs have always been met as long as she's been alive, and thats more than 99.9% of sprickets have the privilege of!

sure enough, last night i encountered not one, but TWO, houseguests! i set them up with some chow. both seem to be in good health, so I'll likely release them tonight 👍

heres they are in their Get Along Tube™️.

theyre both female nymphs one younger than the other, and seem to be getting on just fine 👍

i set Applesauce up in her new home!

(ignore the wheat bran i accidentally spilled under her tray shhhhh)

MAN she is timid, even for a spricket nymph. she was jumping non-stop as soon as i tried to move her, just in total, full blown PANIC. im sorry Applesauce! :(

shes flopped on the corner of the tank where she landed upon entering her new home, laying flat. shhhhh you cant see her! too Sneaky!!!

i had to do more rearranging on my shelves to fit her tank.

i swear, its gonna be nothing BUT tanks eventually. i feel sorry for whoever ends up on the bottom shelf at Wembley's eye level. hopefully nobody, but. who knows.

Dirt and Loofah were surprisingly calm about the disturbance of having their tanks shifted around a bit.

Dirt just kinda stood there with his antennae sticking straight up like "huh? whugh?"

Loofah was a little more animated, scurrying off her perch and eventually settling in front of her tubes looking at me like "wtf mate"

i hope you enjoy your new home, Applesauce, and that you can settle in soon! itll be so much nicer chilling in the dim living room, only getting disturbed once a day to get your daily veggies and misting, instead of being in the kitchen where its bright and full of commotion.

sooooo this lil lady? i decided to keep her, ahaha. meet Applesauce!

i decided to do so because im honestly super interested in her missing leg. shes still a nymph, and supposedly nymphs can regenerate lost limbs as they molt, but... what does that actually look like?

i dont think shes very far off from adulthood either (maybe 2-3 molts tops?), and im not sure if thatll give her enough time to fully regenerate the limb... we'll see though! i have zero frame of reference!

ive gotta get her a proper set up though. i just washed the rest of those tiny critter keepers today, so once theyre dry I'll get a nice enclosure going for her :)

oh! hello there, little one!

i was laying in bed, winding down for the night, when i noticed this polite young lady wandering across my mattress.

i did what i always do with my houseguests: scooped her up, plopped her in the "Spricket Motel," and set her up with some snacks so she could refuel tonight. we split some strawberry applesauce together :)

shes missing a jumping leg, has fairly short antennae, and looks a bit "thin," but shes quite energetic, so im not particularly worried about her.

enjoy the applesauce and bloodworms, little one! I'll see you in the morning! 💚

Hi Bagel! :)

such a handsome boy! besides the obvious lack of an ovipositor, i can always tell him apart from Poppyseed because of those two close together, oval shaped spots on his back.

this man is The Vibes Master. hes usually snoozing under the tube or egg carton during the day, but today he felt like hangin out 👍

if shes not there already, shes gotta be no more than one molt away.

i always thought she was younger than Dirt, but i think he looks smaller than her?
