Sam made that joke about not being like Mr Beast and it's actually made me weirdly appreciate the LinkedIn advertisements even more?
Mr Beast pretends he's doing charity, but he's actually just turning charity into content that he makes money off of. People do benefit, I don't want to pretend that they don't, but he's not doing them a favor. He's essentially turning them into his workers. This isn't terribly uncommon, but Mr Beast adds some real dishonesty to it.
And Sam just put a spotlight on it being content to make money off of. He's doing something incredibly kind for Jake! But he also made it clear that it's work. Jake is doing the episode, same as any other time he's done an episode, and he read ad copy for a sponsor, same as anyone else being paid to promote a company would do. They didn't show up at his house with a giant check and pretend they weren't going to make money off the episode while they quietly demanded he perform for them. It was aggressively honest and incredibly generous, and I really appreciate that.

You could just FEEL Rue puffing up with frustration in this scene. I thought for sure they were gonna shake some sense into him.

2- *Hob tries to deflect by critiquing Prince Apollo’s lack of archery skills*
3- Rue (to themselves): I swear to GOD- THIS MAN… (to Hob) DO NOT DOWNPLAY YOUR INJURIES TO *ME* KNICKOLAS PNACKLELESS HOB. YOUR PAIN AND FEELINGS *MATTER*, DAMMIT! HOW. ARE. YOU. FEELING?

I'm going to hold your hands when I say this: Maxwell being called a "rowdy" isn't about his sexuality - it's about his willingness to slum it with normal (poor) people. THAT'S why his dad was rude af to him but chill about Olethra's trans identity. The gentleman fisting jokes are fun because stuffy upper-class culture is deeply homo-erotic even though it pretends not to be, sure, but the reason "rowdy" hit's as an insult is because it's essentially the same as being called white trash/trailer trash. Maxwell and his beat up hands and willingness to go out and do dangerous and wild things are unacceptable because he is a member of the UPPER CLASS. They are financiers. They wear silk suits and sit behind desks and let other people do the dirty work. Every single one of the Gotch brothers could be getting crazy sloppy back shots every night and it wouldn't matter as long as it was from a person of respectable status - but Maxwell is in the fight pits with the randoms and the normies. He's voluntarily entering spaces where his class status is secondary to his physical prowess. Yes the gay jokes are fun, but that's not the POINT of the character.

my personal favourite thing about naddpod is the inescapable antagonistic energy. when murph dms, that energy is directed at him because he is the dungeon master straightman in a room of chronically ridiculous people and is unafraid to be an enemy. when emily or caldwell dm all that energy is redirected amongst the party, leading to dynamics like the bon freres and the triplets, which are so chock-full of the most profoundly toxic behaviour you've ever seen that they are barely capable of functioning as a group. it's perfect.

I was so worried going into Fantasy High Sophmore Year with them not having battle sets and doing theatre of the mind, but in hindsight and having now watched most other seasons of D20, sophmore year was by far the most immersive experience I ever had watching the show. Theatre of the mind is definitely how I personally perfer dnd, because I kinda like lived through sophmore year, like I was there. It was basically a guided lucid dream. 10/10
#yes. full agree. I have the most vivid memories of that season#I love theater of the mind#fantasy high#fhsy#dimension 20#spyre

i love this. penultimate episode of naddpod (campaign 1). every character is getting the chance to have very sweet personal asides about what the future might look like for them after the big battle. but thirty minutes before the end our storied dungeon master brian murphy said ☝️ hold on. one last thing. we're not getting out of the story yet. not without confirming that jaina bronzebeard. undefeated dwarven wrestling champion. beloved npc of over 60 episodes. eats box

Cloudward Ho talk- I think Tabira City is one of my new favourite fantasy cities because it truly has a fully different system of functioning that isn't just a rule that you can Tell newcomers- it has to come with an entirely new way of thinking.
Our heroes got to the city, asked all the adventurer questions of what is that, what is this, but still don't quite understand the currency. It isn't just going from dollars to euros, it's good faith bartering, elements of socialism, community outreach. And with the attitude they have from Gath it's confusing cause they KNOW that wouldn't work in Gath with the way people are- the system works because everyone in Tabira has a completely different approach to life. A completely different approach to strangers and possessions.
And we see if you can't adapt to that you will end up a baboon in the square begging for noodles.
I like when a sci-fi/fantasy place isn't just "what if we tried out london but a different skin" the foundations this place was made on is completely different to the cities in Gath.
It's good world building cause it asks the question: What would a city look like if it was made up of only lost people and lost things who were just suddenly and violently cut off from their world?
Expertise and Skill become the common basis for trade, because it's the only thing people can reliably bring with them. Being kind to people who have nothing becomes a lot more common because that was Just You. That has happened to people you know, you know what that feeling is. The food and style is diverse, the technological and cultural advancements are probably supercharged because of the meshing of different perspectives.
And letting that develop for generations you get a place like Tabira!
THAT'S what I like in a fantasy city, not somewhere you can learn the 10 different rules they have and then go about your merry way- I think you would have to spend years in Tabira to really master the city. It challenges the heroes to expand themselves.
What if I put you in a fantasy market and the one catch is you have to have empathy and manners and if you don't you will fail. That rules man idk what to say
