Omgg I realized I never read chapter 4 of Wishbone so I went and reread the whole thing again, and oh my gosh I forgot how much I love this fic!! I love the way you write everyone’s emotions and how the magic feels tangible and AAAA it’s so cool!! I can’t wait to see Flint and Papyrus actually start to get along!!

“I know you’re fine.” A lie; he does have to keep an eyelight on Papyrus. This soft new world is full of dangers, and you are the newest and most dangerous of all. “What do you mean, working things out?”

Despite his brother being the one bound to you, Sans knows you better than that. You do not ‘work things out’. Compromise is beyond you; it’s what makes you such a horrible politician. You push and push until whatever you’re pushing against yields, and that is all. You had done it with the Treaty and with your Academy, and you will do it again now, a mindless force, as constant and inevitable as gravity, pulling everything down with you.

The blunt axe of you directed towards his brother and an unwanted soulmate bond is a terrible thought, and an even worse reality. So many horrible ways for that violently clumsy will to swing. So many contingencies for Sans to plan for. The quality of his work has suffered for it; you have become a ceaseless friction dulling the normally razor-sharp blade of his consciousness. He is constantly distracted by spiralling scenarios of whatever damage you may attempt to inflict next, and the steps he would need to take to counteract you. Stars, you are hurting Papyrus already with your refusal to see him; the soulmate sickness, the disease of you, has sunk its claws in deep, and worsens by the hour.

His inability to FIGHT you is a frustrating encumbrance—if only he could just dispatch you so easily, the way he’s done to every threat to Papyrus that came before you. Instead, he is left to contemplate more roundabout methods. He could threaten you, but you’d both know the threats were baseless, and would therefore have no effect. Threatening someone you love would circumvent that particular issue, if you had anyone. But you don’t.

Another monster could FIGHT you on his behalf; he could call on one or all of the countless favours he accrued Underground, but he doubts there’s a single monster alive willing to walk into that fire, no matter the pressure he put on them to do so. Given the option of dusting at his hand or yours, he knows what the vast majority of monsters would choose. He has no desire to offer a single other monster up to the pyre of you anyway; it’s another fruitless contingency.

He is left to unsatisfying, utterly useless daydreams that are no less relentless for their pointlessness. They’re petty, near fantastical in nature; often, he imagines taking you by the arm and shortcutting you away; he knows how disorientating it is for those who aren’t expecting it. He envisions the way you’d stumble afterwards, maybe even fall, off-kilter and enraged on the floor of his office. He’d lean in close, just to watch. Your chin tipped up, eyes narrowed, nostrils flared. And then, the moment your expression would curdle with the realisation of just how helpless he could make you, if he wanted to. You, at his mercy. Humbled. Made small by his hand.

In reality, you wouldn’t be helpless, of course. And why would he be shortcutting you anywhere anyway? It would serve no purpose; he is unable to FIGHT or threaten you. This reminder of his own impotence shatters the illusion each time and ruins any enjoyment he may have gleaned from imagining you brought to your knees.
