there’s been a really bizarre trend in the past couple years of TERFS/radfems getting pissed off about biology posts. posts about the bilateral gyandromorph cardinal (one half male, one half female), posts about older hens beginning to crow and act like roosters, posts about animals being animals. and it’s hilarious because they interpret these posts as some kind of agenda. no! these are animals not choosing any gender identity or sexuality but being born into bodies they have no control over. weird how that happens in nature huh

I had to look up what cnc stood for. I concluded it was Consensual Non-Consent. I agree with the post but want to suggest if you're gonna use an acronym it's good practice to put the full version in there somewhere.

other assorted thoughts: to be entirely honest i don't think you need a kink specific safeword if youre not doing cnc. the point of a safeword is that its a replacement for "no" in a context where "no" and "stop" do not mean no. there's a little bit of a trend of assigning safewords as a standard kink practice and it gets a little amusing and confuzzling to me when its at the point of like. safewords at a play party where all cnc is explicitly banned. hey fam? if all cnc is off the table then your safeword should be "no." like. hey. what are we implying here.

furthermore if the kink youre doing would be unsafe without a safeword you should recognize that means its cnc. which i think is the real sticking point here. a lot of people who do cnc seem to have this incredibly distressing reluctance to recognize their kink as cnc because they feel like cnc is dirty or violent or immoral or smthing. but look if you saying "stop" wouldn't make them actually stop, that's cnc, factually, even if its "soft" or mild cnc. ig a lot of my thoughts here are like if you're gonna ban cnc then you need to actually ban cnc and understand the full scope of what cnc entails.

Making your enemies fight each other isn't the same as inviting them into your ranks and declaring them to be allies. Make sure you're doing the former and not the latter.

Suggesting that we might be able to lure some people away from their cult and slowly undo their brainwashing, isn't the same as declaring them to be totally trustworthy the moment they compromise even a little. Do what you can, but be smart about it.

It's important that we do what we can to reduce the damage, and it's important that we don't compromise on our own principles in the process.

Okay but I also want to point out that D&D specifically is a system where more than 50% of the rules are combat mechanics, and has often been used for simple kick-the-door-down, roll some dice, fight-the-bad-guys-and-win dungeon crawls — where any narrative is essentially just window dressing.

I'd argue it isn't even well suited for an improv-theatre collaborative-storytelling game, where we would actually want the story to be "good" or even really coherent. If your group solves most of their problems through diplomacy, you aren't really playing "D&D", as the game it is written to be and presented as.

Yes, we can and should try and put more thought into the stories we tell, and the ethical implications thereof, and we should be aware of the narratives that we passively consume and how they affect our worldview. But maybe first we should talk about what kind of game we're playing, and whether storytelling is even really a part of that game.

Sometimes it's ok to say "yes, goblins in general are thinking creatures capable of both good and evil, but these particular goblins aren't interested in talking their feelings out and are currently trying to summon a demon army, and also they are now Nazis because we just spent the last hour writing up character sheets full of nothing but all the cool ways that your characters are able to utilize violence to solve problems in a game that is primarily about using violence to solve problems, and we aren't about to spend the next two hours patting ourselves on the back talking about how actually we are all pacifists who would never use violence in real life except maybe as a last resort in self defense."

But y'know, there is no "wrong" way to play, talk it over with your group.
