rewatching white collar for the millionth time and noticed neal making an offhand comment in s3ep15 when talking about learning how to play billiards at 9yrs old where he says that he was already a "hustler" then (june says "a pool hall in st louis, it mustve been full of hustlers" and neal was like, "yeah, i was one of them" and june is like "neal") and like maybe it shouldn't be a surprise because he was a neglected child in witsec but it still makes me so sad to think about like he was already involved in crime at age NINE he was a BABY who was so uncared for that he was spending afternoons after school hustling and stealing unsupervised in pool halls
