Outside My Window
Nobody else is up. It’s pre-dawn and I have to get ready for work
Sunday morning and I stroll through the dark house naked and enjoying breezes from the open window on my skin
outside my window hummingbirds sit on fragrant trumpet vines sleepily stretching their tiny wings
the pool filter growls quietly to itself
somewhere in the distance a baby cries and hushes suddenly and a small dog barks then thinks better of it
there is a simmering inner sound of waking up
I look out the window remembering sunrises
pretty but fierce
I am not a morning person but the world outside my window
is a morning world
