HBD Jeru! 🎉🎉🎉 Kendrick Jeru Davis, known as Jeru the Damaja, is an American rapper and record producer best known for his 1994 debut album, The Sun Rises in the East, ranked as one of the 100 greatest hip-hop albums of all time by the editors of About.com. He has worked extensively with Guru and DJ Premier of Gang Starr, whom he has known since he was in high school. Davis first showcased his unique style to audiences on "I'm the Man", a track from Gang Starr's 1992 album Daily Operation. The following year he released his first single "Come Clean" which was produced by DJ Premier and became an underground hit. Davis's first album, The Sun Rises in the East, was released in 1994 and produced entirely by DJ Premier. Davis followed up in 1996 with his second album, Wrath of the Math, again produced solely by DJ Premier. The album was also widely acclaimed, although not on the same level as his debut. As on his first album, Jeru was critical of commercial hip-hop artists and the record labels that produced them such as Death Row Records and Bad Boy Entertainment; the latter he criticized on the concept track "One Day". After the release of Math, Jeru reportedly had a falling-out with DJ Premier and Guru. Jeru, however, has dismissed this and claimed that they wanted to go in different directions. @jeru_thedamaja #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #KendrickJeruDavis #JeruTheDamaja #DOriginal #DirtyRottenScoundrel #PayDay https://www.instagram.com/p/B8jrv3FHbXf/?igshid=dauks2ikoe1

29 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Step in the Arena is the second studio album by hip hop duo Gang Starr, printed as a 1990 release, and commercially released on January 15, 1991. In 2007, it was named the greatest hip hop album of all time by IGN.com. HipHopDX called it "the album that cemented Gang Starr as a timeless tag team." Filmmaker Spike Lee was a fan of Gang Starr's debut No More Mr. Nice Guy and loved the song on the album "Jazz Music". As Lee was filming Mo' Better Blues at the time of the album's release, he felt the duo needed to expand on the song's theme - which became the single "Jazz Thing". Lee introduced them to a poem written by Lolis Eric Elie, which group member Guru converted to a rap, as the poem didn't rhyme. The song caught the attention of Chrysalis Records, who offered them a deal based on "Jazz Thing". However, DJ Premier said the label had gotten the wrong idea of the group, stating: "When they signed us, they thought we were going to do records like "Jazz Thing" all the time. When we were just doing that for Mo' Better Blues" @djpremier #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #DJPremier #Preemo #Guru #RIPGuru #GiftedUnlimitedRhymesUniversal #GangStarr #JustToGetARep #StepInTheArena https://www.instagram.com/p/B7WEalul49_/?igshid=8j8jie75xof2

Redman had stated that he had planned on releasing a sequel to the album entitled Muddy Waters 2, considering it is his most classic work. 25 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Dare Iz a Darkside is the second studio album by American rapper Redman. It was released on November 22, 1994, by Def Jam Recordings. The album debuted at 13 on the US Billboard 200. In January 1995, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), exceeding the sales of 500,000 copies in the United States. The album cover features Redman buried in the ground up to his neck, a reference to the cover of Funkadelic's 1971 album Maggot Brain. In addition, the song "Cosmic Slop" shares its name with a 1973 Funkadelic album. In 2010, Redman told Vibe Magazine that he never performed any songs from Dare Iz A Darkside in recent years - primarily due to the album being made during one of the dark times in his life. The positive reaction to the album stunned Redman, who said "I was doing a lot of drugs on Dare Iz A Darkside. I have chicks that come up to me and say, 'Yo, Dare Iz A Darkside is my favorite fuckin' album, ever.' I swear, I have not played Dare Iz A Darkside damn near since I did it. Seriously!
