Martha has always been different. To start, she’s always been fat. Her mom says pudgy but Martha knows she means fat. Not that that’s been a problem Martha’s ever cared about (although most everyone around her for some reason has). And she didn’t have any problems making friends growing up with the neighbor kids or her kindergarten classmates. She had a unicorn sweater and a horse backpack. She could quote The Princess Bride by heart.

But once they moved into the “big school” things changed. It didn’t matter how nice or friendly or cool she was. All everyone saw her as was weird and fat. Her parents told her not to let it bother her, and even considered homeschool when things got really bad. But she wanted to stay in school with her friends. Friend. Veronica.

And now she’s used to the teasing. It’s sad but true. Whatever happens she knows she can just go home and forget about it. It’ll be over soon anyway. She can go to community college, then go and get a bachelor’s. Maybe be a writer or a film director or something.

Veronica Sawyer: Martha’s forever best friend. They hang out and watch movies. They know all each other’s secrets, even the ones they don’t tell their parents. Veronica’s the only reason that Martha didn’t choose to be homeschooled. College is coming up though and she knows that things will be different, no matter how much Veronica says they won’t.

Ram Sweeney: Martha’s childhood sweetheart. And head bully. He was her boyfriend in kindergarten. He liked her a lot and even kissed her. But then they started actual elementary school and he wanted nothing to do with her. He even started being mean to her. Dejected, Martha still carries some hope that he still likes her. Somewhere deep down.

Carrie White: Martha and Carrie have never formally spoken. They make eye contact in the hallways and acknowledge each other but that’s about it. They both know the other is at the bottom of the social ladder and there’s an unspoken rule between them that they will never join in while the other is being teased.

This wasn’t mentioned in my response to that last ask, but here’s a friendly reminder that if you don’t see a bio for a character you’d like to play, feel free to either request that we write one (as long as you promise to apply ;)), or if you’d like to, you can write one yourself! 

If you want to write your own, just be sure to include your character’s age, grade, faceclaim, and the details of three important relationships that they have with other characters (preferably at least one from outside their musical of origin!) Then you can just send it in, and we’ll format it for you!

As usual, if you have any questions, you can message us either privately or through an ask and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can! :D

Since we are doing a restructuring of the group, what better way to do that then throw a party?

Heather McNamara is throwing a big end of summer party at her house! There will be music, dancing, a pool, and lots and lots of things the parents of Merrymont don’t want to know about!

The only catch is, a party needs people. Once the group gets 5 new apps, it’s time for the party of the century! We need to get 5 new apps!

i dont know exactly how asking for bios works, or if its okay to just shoot an anon ask, but could you make one for moritz stiefel?

WAIT sort of, addendum to that, if it could be the "deaf west" version of moritz, i'd appreciate that a lot... or well, that's the version i'm thinking of playing at least!!

Davey Jacobs grew up too fast. That’s what everyone seems to say. He was always mature beyond his years, but recently, it’s become way more obvious - and in Davey’s eyes, way more necessary. His father was laid off from his job a year ago, leaving the family with no real source of income. So, Davey and his older sister, Sarah, both had to go out and get jobs of their own. Nothing even remotely glamorous. She works as a waitress and bartender while Davey managed to snag a job at the corner store attached to the gas station. The owner is nice enough and very understanding of his situation, but it’s a lot of time away from home. He’s always been the one to watch over his little brother, Les, and going straight from school to work meant he had to relinquish that position. It also meant, as it turned out, that he’d end up having to repeat his junior year. Admittedly, he did skip way too many days of school to go to work all day. He never told his parents about this, because they would never stand for it. They’ve always emphasized the importance of a good education. But, he felt that work was more important and made the executive decision to put his family before anything else. 

Not that he’s happy about it.

If it were possible for his family to survive without him and Sarah’s income, he would love to devote himself to his schoolwork. He’s a smart guy, and he could get into a really good college if he wanted to. He should be researching and applying to schools right now. He should be graduating this year. There’s an awful lot of things he should be doing. But, he just reminds himself that he’s lucky it isn’t worse. He’s got a family who loves him, a few budding friendships that mean the world to him, and a boss who doesn’t take advantage of his desperate circumstances. That’s pretty damn lucky, all things considered.

And, it’s not like he’s not living. Despite being on the shy side, he’s an active and successful member of the debate team. And, in whatever free time he has, he loves going to Ellison Park and just walking around, listening to music and taking pictures that are...actually pretty good. He’s never told anyone, but he’d love to be a professional photographer one day. Maybe this year, he’ll even volunteer to take pictures for the school paper, if he can work up the nerve to go in there and face a room full of mostly-strangers. There’s a lot he’s hoping to achieve this year, actually. Re-taking the SAT, finding a permanent spot in the cafeteria, maybe joining a few more clubs. Already, he’s started going to meetings for Les Amis de l’ABC, which he’d never really heard about until this year, but is already kind of liking. 

Who knows? Maybe this’ll be the year things get turned around for the better. Maybe getting held back was the best thing in the world for him.

Jack Kelly: Davey doesn’t really know what to think of Jack. He’s unlike anyone he’s ever met. A little rowdy, a little reckless, occasionally disgusting, but generally kind and more compassionate than he lets on. He’s clearly wrestling with some demons of his own, but tends to put others first anyway, and Davey really admires that. He could see the two of them becoming really good friends.

Alexandre Enjolras: While David’s heard plenty of rumors about the leader of Les Amis, up until this year, he’s only occasionally passed by him in the hallway. It’s true that he is as inhumanly gorgeous as they say, and he does indeed have a fiery passion that drives his every move, but he’s not quite as intense as stories have told. Davey couldn’t see this guy going to jail for inciting a riot or getting expelled from another school for lashing out at a student with opposing views. He’s strong willed, but he’s not angry or violent. Reckless, for sure. Super reckless. But, Davey kind of admires that. Maybe he admires him a little more than one would just admire a friend.

Zoe Murphy: Having moved down a grade, David went from sharing classes with Connor Murphy to sharing them with his sister, and he has never seen two siblings so completely different from each other. In many ways, Zoe reminds him of his own sister, and so he’s grown kind of protective of her. She seems subtly timid, unsure of herself in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. But the sour look on her face when the teacher called out her name while taking attendance and asked “oh, are you Connor’s sister?” gave him a pretty clear glimpse into her head. Davey’s always had a good relationship with his own siblings. Seeing Zoe is a pretty strong reminder of how good he has it.

Veronica’s had a pretty sweet life. Sure, her parents are a little overprotective. They don’t always get it, even with an after-school cookies-and-milk talk, but it’s better than nothing. They certainly don’t live in Merrymont Ponds, but their neighborhood was nice enough, especially their next door neighbors the Dunnstocks. Veronica grew up surrounded by barbeques and block parties, or at least that’s what it felt like.

School was also pretty okay. She was a little weird, sure, but what kid wasn’t? She definitely wasn’t popular but didn’t get it as bad as a lot of other kids she knew. And her grades were good enough so no one ever questioned her or had any reason to suspect that anything was wrong or that she was unhappy. For the most part, she wasn’t. But something was missing.

High school started, and Veronica realized that, quite frankly, she was bored of it all. Bored of school, bored of Merrymont, bored of petty fighting and social obligations. And now, senior year. One more mind-numbing year and then she can escape this town. Maybe go off to an Ivy League school or something cool like that.

Martha Dunnstock: Veronica’s best friend and neighbor since they were babies. They hang out almost every Friday night and watch movies. She hates the way everyone’s treated Martha their whole time at school. Martha has a big heart, that’s all. She doesn’t deserve any of what she gets.

Jason Dean (JD): The new boy in town. Merrymont doesn’t get many new students, and certainly not as brooding and handsome as JD. Something about him is ridiculously alluring. He is anything but boring.

Alana Beck: Veronica peripherally knows Alana, same as everyone else in the school. As far as Veronica’s concerned, the two of them have the exact opposite solution to Merrymont’s perpetual nothingness. But Veronica’s never been one to put down other girls for doing what they do. She’s just pretty sure Alana’s going to drop dead of a heart attack someday.
