Update about my Max x Reader Fic!

😆sooo hi guys, I’m sort of back after 3 months. The first two months is completely my fault, and I’m extremely sorry. With school and work happening things got extremely busy and stressful and I couldn’t figure out things to write and continue on.

However, and granted I didn’t want to narrow down where I lived on such a big platform but due to Hurricane Helene, me and my boyfriend’s apartment flooded and with that, my laptop got completely soaked. Thankfully I have Apple care on it so I can get a replacement but the file I had my ideas for the rest of the chapters got deleted when I did a reboot sooo 😓as of this moment, my story is temporarily discontinued until I can figure out everything.

“Thank you for inviting me, Jimmy! And for the food!”

“No problem! Figured it was the least I could do after the flight here, um…so y/n your career has always been eventful but it's currently exploding right now and everyone’s talking about Y/N L/N and so I wanted to show you this photo and tell me if you remember how growing up in figure skating was” [shows a picture of younger y/n in her first competition]

“Oh….this was when I was 12, I had just started competing after begging my mother to sign me up for a skating academy for like a whole year [laughter]”

“Did you win this competition?”

“No [laughs] I got like fourth place and was convinced I wasn’t made out to be a skater and went home that night and cried the most i’ve ever cried I think”

“Wow, here’s you like what..six competitions later and look you’ve got a gold medal” {shows a different picture of her on the podium with a bright smile] [insert cheers and laughter] “I’m so happy for you, what did it feel like?”

“Um, well it felt like I was right all along, that my mom and coach were right and it just gave me a huge boost in confidence after that”

“And- I mean- look at you now two time olympic champion back to back, that is amazing- absolutely amazing. Uh- a little birdie told me that when you first signed with Team USA- um you were in a Chick-Fil-A drive thru when you got the call”

[laughter] “Um..yeah! I was actually at work- um, i worked in a chick-fil-a like ten minutes down the street from my house and I got the call from the recruiter and I was like “oh god, I can’t be on my phone at work but I have to take this…screw it” and i picked up the phone and if you ever watched the draft for the nba then it’s kind of like that, I remember I squealed and dropped to the floor as I accepted and I just could not shut up about it for the rest of the day”

[laughter] “yeah well that must’ve been an amazing feeling! To know your accomplishments have been recognized and that you were about to go to the big leagues”

“Oh yeah, I was riding on that high for like a week, it felt like- yeah- i did it. I mean, I felt like I kind of made it already when I won the rest of my competitions growing up but that call was the little cherry on top, you know? I was 18 years old at the time of the phone call, just out of high school but then it was like a massive dump where I was unsure of myself and if I really was that good. Hate really got to my heart during that time, I had already reviewed a large amount of misogyny that I had almost given up too many times to count”

“I had to push myself and remember why I was there, first and foremost my passion for the ice, and I wasn’t going to toss away my dream due to bigoted men around me. They wanted to see me fail and I wasn’t going to let them succeed”

“Beautifully said. I know recently a few fans have reacted poorly after the results of the most recent grand prix in Austria..how do you feel about that?”

“Well um, I get that they're mad, you know? No one wants to see a driver forced out of a race following a collision but again, I had nothing to do with that, you know? [laughter] Um..just because I’m dating Max does not give them that excuse but again, there will always be haters and so I do what I do best and ignore them the best I can; I know not everyone can respond maturely and things can be said in the heat of the moment so I try not to hold it against them”

“Right, well what are your plans for the future? Is another championship in the cards? Another career even? Maybe a more serious relationship outcome with Max?”

[laughter] “Um well figure skating is definitely the dream, you know, a lot of people will say I’m too old to be on the rink but frankly, there is no maximum age to figure skating, i’ll retire of course when I’m ready but um, that’s no time soon [laughter] um growing up I was really into psychology. Obviously as an athlete I know the importance of mental health and how it can truly affect your performance and career but I was obsessed growing up, probably from all the late night reruns of crime shows like law and order and 48 hours {laughter}’

“and um I don’t know about the last one, we haven’t really talked about anything like that, I think we both enjoy our lives together but i wouldn’t be opposed to any sort of change”

“Great! Well um, Max if your watching, there’s your sign right there [laughter] um…I googled you today to see what pops up and um..”

“Did you not know who I was beforehand?”

“No [laughter] no- i can do..I know all your poses and I can do it”

“Oh can you?”

“I can do it, no- no I just wanted to see what pops up and it says did you mean: ice queen or ice princess and I think that’s kind of fun, tell us about that”

“Um, I definitely didn’t do that- I guess someone at google loves me or something [laughter] but the nicknames ice queen or princess is from the 2018 Olympics when I won my first championship and that day I was wearing a white and silver costume that I was absolutely shivering in [laughter] but um- yeah, the judges and everyone liked it so much and I think the name came from one the judge's comments on my performance actually and everyone just ran with it and i liked it so much that I kept it [laughter]”

“Can I just tell everyone some of the stats you have right now, because wow. You are currently the highest paid figure skater at a net worth of 90 Million dollars. You are a 5 time US champion from 2011 to 2016 and 6 time World Champion from 2017 and 2023, you have countless endorsements with brands such as Disney, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Visa, Campbell’s Chevrolet, Coca-Cola, Kraft, and United Airlines. You’ve been given the James E. Sullivan Award for ‘Best Amateur Athlete, U.S. Olympic Committee ‘Sportswoman of the Year’, Readers’ Choice ‘Figure Skater of the Year’, Teen Choice Award and ‘Cosmogirl of the Year’” [takes in a deep breath] “phew…that was a lot to read [laughter] but yeah, that is all you’ve done since you were 12, that’s amazing!”

Y/n didn’t know what to wear to this party, having to enlist the help of her best friend to choose before she chose a tie front blouse and a skirt. It felt embarrassing how nervous she felt as she climbed out of Max’s Ferrari in front of the club. Walking around the car, their eyes met before she sighed and slipped her hand into his as they walked inside.

The club was already bustling with people, drivers, celebrities, patrons of the club. All kinds of people gathered in one area for the night to celebrate Charles’s win in the Monaco Grand Prix. She then was introduced to the dreadful feeling of having to follow Max like a little duckling because she knew no one there, sure she knew of some people present, recognized them in passing and gave them a smile and wave but no one personally.

That’s why it felt weird for Max to bring her up to the two booths being occupied by the drivers and their plus ones and have him introduce her.

“Everyone, this is Y/n, my girlfriend” Max said and she smiled and waved at everyone

“Hi” she said as she slid into the booth next to Max, looking at everyone present and just hoping she’d be able to remember everyone’s names to their faces but first she turned to Charles. “Congratulations on your win today, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it, but I did watch the final laps live on my phone”

“It’s all good, it’s nice to finally meet you, y/n” Charles said and she smiled, glad he didn’t feel any way about her not coming to the race but showing up to the party. The next couple minutes were filled with other greetings, going around the booth and being introduced to the girlfriends present, Lily (He Muni), other Lily, who she decided to call lils to help differentiate but also because she was so adorable, Alexandra and Francisca, who had insisted she call her Kika.

If meeting the girls was what she needed to relax and actually enjoy the night then it was a success because a few minutes and a couple drinks later, she was on the dance floor dancing her little heart out. The following hangover would probably be hell but she would deal with that in the morning.

At one point she was pretty sure "Party In The U.S.A " came on and she and Logan were screaming the lyrics and laughing maniacally, but in their defense they were surrounded by Europeans, Aussies and Spaniards. Another thing she learned was that she was going to love the 2023 rookies, Oscar and Logan, making their way into her heart with their adorableness and she truly wanted to adopt both.

She didn’t remember how long she was at the club but she did know when she woke up, she was at Max’s house in his guest bedroom with a massive hangover and a glass of water and some Tylenol on the bedside table, he wasn’t there when she woke up, probably at the factory for some sim practice and meetings which she didn’t care about but it did put a small smile on her face…a small one.

→ Lando was the dj at the party (party in the usa was him) 

→ Y/n felt nervous meeting the rest of the grid, afraid they wouldn’t like her (I don’t like how the grid ignore Logan so Y/n and Logan will have a huge friendship) 

→ Lily was excited to meet another athletic wag (expect a lot of lily and y/n in the future) 

→ Y/n was too drunk to drive home in Max’s opinion (you were blackout drunk) and so he carried her inside and put her in his spare bedroom

Y/n was tired. Sitting in a meeting room all morning was not how she preferred to spend her summer but she had decided to sign the contract, but that didn’t mean she knew she would be sitting in a room listening to people go over rules and legality technicalities, whatever you wanted to call them.

If she wanted a law lesson she would have sat in on a class, but nonetheless she was a big girl and so she put on her big girl pants and sucked it up. Even if she’d preferred to be in her big girl pajamas, on her couch, binge watching whatever show she was pushing off with a coffee or tea in hand.

The real issue? She had to sit through these meetings alone, she had to read through the contract, agree to it, and then sit through enough presentations and sign enough things for her hand to have a blister. Alone. Because Max Verstappen was too busy to come himself, something about training they couldn’t push off. So his manager and lawyers were there, Max having already signed everything with his conditions written down apparently.

Now him not being there wasn’t a huge reason for her to be mad, no scratch that, she wasn’t mad, she was just annoyed and tired. This was not what she signed up for but Michael said it would be rude if she put her head down and took a nap in the middle of a presentation. She almost leaped with joy when they announced they were done and everything they could think of was signed and discussed, until she was handed a paper by his manager, Raymond, before she could bolt.

“This is Max’s number, figured with him not being here, messaging him to discuss press things would be nice before the media catches on” He said and even though she was annoyed and ready to go home, this guy was an old guy, basically her grandfather’s age and so she couldn’t snap or be mean and so she smiled

“Thanks, i’ll do that once I get home” she said with a nod as she took the paper and put it in her purse as she smiled at him before waving and walking towards Michael, her smile and overall face dropping as they walked to the car.

“You did good, Y/N” Michael said as he opened the door for her and she slid in, placing her purse in the middle seat and putting her seatbelt on as she glanced at Michael getting in as well. The driver started the car once they heard the click of his seatbelt.

“Did they have to drag it on that much? I feel like I just sat in a criminal law class” she said as she rubbed her forehead before leaning against the door

“They were just cautious..there’s a lot to this, a rather iceberg topic that could ruin both your career and his if found out” he said and she sighed

“I know, I just feel all of that could have been put on a little packet saying the “dos and don’ts” and it would have been easier to understand and faster. I thought we would have just read the contract, make me sign the necessary things and then we leave, not a whole lecture” she said before she looked out the window, “plus Max was able to skip out of everything by just signing the contract”

“Yes well, it was Raymond and his team who drew up the contract, I’m sure they explained everything to Max prior” Michael said before they pulled into her driveway, “And please don’t forget to text Max, we would like for the two of you to have pictures to post before we leak the photos to the press”

“Alright..yeah, I’ll text him” *she said as she looked at him before she got out of the car and walked up to her front door before closing it behind her as she watched the car drive off.

⤷ y/n’s career

Y/n L/n, born in _____, United States of America, d/o/b. Began figure skating at 8 years old, maintaining her flexibility and balance until her mother agreed to sign her up for an academy at 11. Starting competitive figure skating at 12 in the advanced novice category; At 19 she was signed by Team USA owned, U.S Figure Skating after obtaining multiple accomplishments under her belt such as World Champion and GPF Champion. In the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Y/N L/N did the impossible after a jaw dropping show, such a performance giving her the nickname the ice princess, obtaining gold for Team USA at just 20 years old and becoming a first time Olympic Champion. She however was not done as at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games she once again obtained gold for Team USA following four years of training under Brian Orser, Y/N L/N described that year games as a tough battle against Gabriella Papadakis, a high compliment as that was Papadakis’s second ever Olympic Games, the two women only .79 points apart from winning. She is without a doubt one of the best female figure skaters of her generation. 

With the popularity of ice skating rising from 10 million to 11.44 million in 2024, Team USA wishes to bring the sport to higher standards and levels. Her manager, Michael Sainte, friends with Max’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, composed a meeting in Monaco before agreeing to the idea for a PR relationship. Max gets a relationship to distract the media from his break up with Kelly and Y/n can turn formula one fans into figure skating fans.
