hihi !! i know it’s been a… while since i’ve posted anything regarding the if and everything but firstly i just wanna say that the if is still on ! recently i’ve been going through some life changes including moving which won’t be completely handled until dec-jan. unfortunately that leaves me with little to no time to code anything currently so i’ve only been able to draft and plot every once in a while. this means there’s demo will essentially be pushed back a bit until i can successfully find time to continue to work on it. so i’ll be putting the if on a 2-3 month hiatus (that could potentially be slightly longer or shorter). however i will still pop onto tumblr every once in a while and i might still try to answer asks about the if whenever i get the chance.

PLAY CHAPTER 2

It's here! First, sorry for the long wait. Chapter 2 has proven to be a behemoth, and I'd gotten sick this past week, my computer broke, my documents went kaput and I had to do some Frankensteining for the last few pages of this part. I'm not too worried, as Part II update can help smooth out all the kinks. I will definitely be looking for beta testers once chapter 2 is complete ha

Anywho! Enough about my problems. This demo update adds 86k words (86, 818 to be exact) and is the first part of a two part chapter. Which means the narrative in this chapter is not complete, but I kind of closed it off at a pretty satisfying place. As with every Infamous chapter, this is very character driven. So have fun!

What to expect in Chapter Two PART I:

get on the bus & deal with the consequences of your actions lol

arrive to your first tour stop and do your first gig...which might get messy (both literally and figuratively)

hang with a familiar father and daughter duo

have some heart to hearts/ some cheeky little POV passages

meet more BOTB crew and learn exactly what's in store for you this season

get roped in some ValenReign mess !

Maintenance:

this chapter has a lot of flavor text, or at least, more than the demo did, so if there are any errors or if there are lines that don't correspond with your choices, please let me know so i can fix that!

you will no longer be forced to write your own lyrics and the update will offer you pre-written lyrics by yours truly. im not t swift so i would advise you not to expect professional level songwriting, but they work well enough lolol

lyrics page is up as well as stats, but i don't really like the system i used to balance it, mostly because new...stat things will be added as the story goes on, so that's still getting reworked. still, good enough for now, as there are some personality stat checks!

Prologue and Chapter 1 errors/typos/grammatical bits fixed. (Wouldn't be surprised if I missed some though...) + variables updated.

Scenes not showing up fixed. hopefully, that huge error in which it throws you back to the fight after returning to the house is fixed (It was a bit wonky for me, hopefully it works for everyone else)

Stat and relationship pages updated ( + lyric page to look back at all your lyrics).

Can choose to be asexual and any sexual scenes will be skipped or replaced with romantic scenes. Flavor text in which MC displays any sort of sexual desire will be skipped. (This option comes up during Dakota's party scene. If not, it will show up when it presents itself again.) (Nothing sexual has come up yet, but if there are any scenes or even lines/ internal thoughts that should be skipped or changed for Asexual MCs, please let me know!)

If there are errors or anything, im always open. I've play tested but you girl is always prone to errors. As always, thank you for your love and enthusiasm! It makes me really happy and motivates me to keep writing ! <3

Unsolicited Writing Advice

Completely random reminder to back up your work, especially if you're a writer, IF or game developer, coder, or creator of any kind. People sometimes ask me what my advice for other writers is, and I always forget to include this one, but it's one of the most important things, especially if your career, livelihood, or long-form projects hinge on writing in any way! Take it from someone who just had two backup methods fail unexpectedly and only the third backup prevented me from losing a solid month of work, you need to back up your work in as many ways as you possibly can. It may seem like a pain in the ass at the time, but I've seen a lot of games or stories stall or fail completely due to a catastrophic loss of data that utterly kills any drive to keep going with the project because of the need to start over. I'M BEGGING YOU, BACK UP YOUR DATA.

I recommend having at least 2, ideally 3 methods of backup:

Automatic cloud storage. I personally prefer working with Dropbox, where every change I save is automatically synced and backed up to a cloud server as well as natively saved on my own device. It also has robust version history, so if you figure out you've done something horrific and unknowingly saved over something important or rewritten a section you weren't supposed to, you can rewind everything in a folder down to a specific minute (over the last 30 days): a feature that has saved my hide just a few too many times for comfort. A free Dropbox account gives you 2 GB of storage to work with. Working within Google Drive works just as well, and the free version gives you 15 GB of storage (though that's shared between your email account and other Google apps, as well)! However, I don't believe it provides automatic syncing and backup the same way Dropbox does: you either have to work directly within a Google doc for your work to be automatically saved to the server, or you have to manually upload the files to your Google Drive to back them up each time.

Physical storage. Every few weeks or months, I also take the time to back up my important files to an external hard drive or thumb drive. Again, it's kind of a hassle, but if the day ever comes that you lose your passwords or find that they've been changed, a company's servers go down or they go bankrupt, they decide to start charging you to access your data, or whatever crazy circumstance you can think of, it's always good to have a physical backup somewhere. A basic 1 TB thumb drive is somewhere around 20$ USD (though it can be slower at that price point if you're transferring a large amount of data each time), and it's even less if you don't need that much storage. A 1 TB external hard drive (which has a much quicker transfer rate) is around 40-50$.

If all else fails, email. If you can't get access to physical storage devices and cloud storage services don't work for you, consider setting up a free Gmail or what-have-you account specifically for backup purposes, then email a copy of your most important files to it every time you make a significant change to them. This may seem sort of primitive and simplistic, but it works, and you can even use it as a little journal or diary of your progress!

Again, you may think this is overkill, but I am convinced that writers are especially prone to proving Murphy's Law and have seen way too many projects, friends, and colleagues fall prey to this oft-overlooked issue. I can count at least half a dozen times where -> my primary device like my laptop broke, failed, became corrupted, had water spilled on it, etc. -> I then turned to my secondary device (hard drive or thumb drive) only to find something was wrong with THAT (broken, outdated, incompatible with currently-owned tech, corrupted, not up-to-date backups) OR I turned to my cloud storage and found something wrong with THAT (unknowingly saved over data and didn't realize it until 3 months later, meaning not even version history could save me) -> and it was only the THIRD method of backing up that saved my ass.

Anyway, this is just your friendly neighborhood writer reminding you to back your work up! It's a necessary part of the job! Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk!

Personality. Brooke prides herself on her ability to fit in with any crowd. She's able to make friends with just about anyone, and she usually does. She's usually in a good mood and even when she isn't she tries her hardest to look on the bright side of things.

Appearance. Long, curly brown hair. Glowy, brown skin. Hazel eyes. Often wearing flowers throughout her curly hair. Usually found in soft shades, cardigans, sweaters, and dresses. Brooke is 5'4.

The Sweetheart. June's new to Belfaire and of course, Belfaire University. He also seems to catch everyone's eye as he's so seemingly perfect. Only his biggest flaw seems to hurt himself the most.

Personality. June is kindhearted and well-mannered — a southern gentleman, if you will. Due to his own personal troubles, he's learned to push in new ways to help others when the easy way out is usually not an option.

Appearance. Short brown, messy hair. Green eyes. Prominent dimples that show often. Usually found in a t-shirt and jeans along with the occasional jean jacket or flannel. June is 6'2.

The Bassist. L is the red-headed bassist from Dylan's band. From the moment you met them, they've seemed to have it out for you and you aren't sure why.

Personality. L doesn't have too many people they care about but those that they do care about mean the world to them — that includes Dylan and L's younger brother, Gavin. While they've had a lot of flings for fun, they haven't been in any real relationships as they avoid getting too close to anyone as much as possible.

Appearance. Red dyed, curly hair. Brown eyes. Male L's hair is short while female L's hair is long. Various piercings including a septum, tongue, & smiley, as well as several ear piercings. Usually found wearing ripped jeans, plaid, chains, rings, black nail polish, black tops, and Converse. L is 5'7.

The TA. Ash is the cute, quiet TA that runs the introductory course at Belfaire University. You first meet them during your tour of the university and you seem to catch their eye from the start.

Personality. Ash loves to help people as much as possible which is why they offer tutoring alongside their boatload of other responsibilities. Ash is determined to make their father proud and be the best they can be — even if that means pushing themselves past their limit.

Appearance. Dirty blonde hair. Blue eyes & glasses. Male Ash's hair stops below his ears while female Ash's hair is shoulder length. Usually found wearing "academia" styled clothing — button-ups, sweater vests, etc. Male Ash is 6'3 while female Mika is 5'9.

They tend to put others first which usually results in putting their feelings aside for the sake of others.

Appearance. White hair. Pale, glowy skin. Grey eyes. Male Mika's hair is short while female Mika's hair is back length. Usually found wearing their black choker featuring a moon charm. Female Mika usually has charms in her hair. Is often wearing sweaters over collared shirts, long-sleeved shirts — almost "streetwear" styled clothing. Male Mika is 6'1 while female Mika is 5'2.
