if only dog had a bigger bed available, or perhaps two. maybe even a human bed. alas, he must make do with a measly little pillow.

what farming items in mmorpgs has taught me: i used to think using ice trays to make ice cubes was free but after thinking about it i have to pay the electric bill to power the freezer so every moment that i’m not freezing new trays of ice cubes is a moment that i’m underutilizing the freezer and increasing the cost of ice cubes. i have to constantly swap out ice trays for new ice cubes on an hourly rotation on a 24 hour basis or else i won’t produce the maximum amount of ice cubes possible and will underutilize the full potential of my electric bill. i need to stop using all other appliances and utilities in my home to make more ice cubes
#i actually DO have to rotate the ice cube trays for maximum possible ice production#don't get into tie dye

Seems like a revisionist narrative about the lockdowns are emerging where a simplistic “stayed home and did stupid hobbies” versus “worked shit jobs during a pandemic before vaccines” binary is presented and I want to challenge that binary by reminding you that tens of millions of workers lost their jobs at that time which ignited a multi-year problem with rental debts, evictions, poverty and homelessness.
It feels like people are conflating “stayed at home” with “worked at home because they had a middle class office job” and I want to remind you tens of millions of working people lost their jobs at that time which resulted in a consequential rise in homelessness, etc. And jumping off what I saw a friend say, for those workers staying home it wasn’t “fun” it was isolating and terrifying.
#it's STILL a problem#signed someone who got fucked because he got his college degree right then#and all the entry levels were snapped up by people with experience#who lost their jobs in other places

back again encouraging people to start using the hobby stuff they've been acquiring for years
reasons to start can include:
the hobby industry wants only for us to keep buying and never use, so using the stuff pushes back
some hobby items do not survive long term storage
if there's some craft or hobby thing that you want to do but feel your skills aren't up to, consider that those skills won't improve if you don't practice on other things
using it allows it to move from the hobby hoard to the [whatever you made it into] hoard, where you may be more likely to enjoy it more often than just when you specifically look at the hobby hoard
making things is good for the brain
curious to see what other reasons people might add
