masterlist — the pitt x avenger!reader crossover masterlist

Pairing: Jack Abbot x fomer avenger!reader.

Summary: The new attending on the night shift is a complete mystery. She carries herself as if she's seen something worse than hell but smiles as if she has no worries. There's at least 7 bets running about her, and Jack can't stop wondering if she has skeletons in her closet too... And then, her past comes crashing down on the ER like a ticking bomb.

author's note: sorry for disappearing, life is a big mess and I lost what I had written. Hope you can enjoy this tiny reading.

The moon was high up in the sky, dimly illuminating the trail of blood amidst the darkness of the endless forest. Illuminating the blood pooling around you and becoming a raging river. Destroying and carrying everything in its path, drowning you with your sins. A force held your neck, making you suffocate in the blood. Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty-

You woke up with a start. Gasping for air and arms flailing around searching for something, anything. You found the sheets on your bed, the pillow you hugged before sleep now destroyed half on the bed and the other part lying on the floor.

Another nightmare.

You sighed, already feeling exhausted before the day even officially started. With colder hands, you did your mourning routine, refusing to dwell on the nightmare and the feelings weighing on your chest.

The hospital is as cold as ever when you finally enter the Pitt. A smile on your lips, greeting everyone by name. Like a switch being turned, your focus was on work and everything else forgotten.

You worked with care and precision. Some things were easier for you, simpler. You could even do some bloodied savings by yourself if you wanted to, but of course there were protocols and laws, and you respected the staff too much. You didn’t need to work alone anymore. So you teach everything you can within the limits of reason.

The routine of saving lives and teaching how to do it in a more practical way was refreshing. You hoped it could make a difference and lessen your mistakes.

“Hey there, tiger.” Dana smiled tiredly, watchful eyes as always. “The patient's family of twelve is here.”

“Gonna be a blast.” You commented, taking a deep breath to prepare to break the news that their son would no longer be able to play any sport like he used to before the accident.

Dana shook her head, pointing somewhere behind them. “Roby’s already on it with the kids.”

You felt your body relax with the news. “Oh, he's my second favorite person right now.”

The charge nurse arched a brow. “Who's first?”

“You, of course.” The retort came quickly, a smirk on your lips making her chuckle.

“Damn right, honey.” She winked at you, a smile on her lips. “But there's a big incoming, Collins is already waiting outside if you wanna join the party.”

The big incoming was an accident in a construction area, two people in critical condition and thirteen injured. Collins got one critical and you got the other, the staff running to work and save the men's lives. Two hours later, you were able to stop all the bleeding and find the most critical problems to solve. Then he was quickly taken by the neuro team to surgery.

"Great work, guys.” You declared with a calm smile, trying to encourage everyone after noticing their tired faces. “We saved another life, good coffee's on me like always.”

“Other doctors should take notes.” Perlah sassed, making you smile bigger.

You took a five minute break so you could order the coffee and treats, it felt good to use your money to make other people's day a little better. Some of these people had become like almost a second family, or that one day they could really become. It was hard to let people in after everything you went through, but you tried hard with them. For them. Of course, knowing and feeling that didn’t make things easier.

“Ah, so this is where you're hiding.”

A smile appeared on your lips. “Doctor Abbot.”

Turning around, you found Jack watching you. Arms crossed and a tiny smile on his face.

“Is the night shift too boring for you today?” He asked casually, but you knew what he was really asking.

“Are you trying to set me up because you’re the one bored?” You retorted smoothly.

Jack laughed loudly, shaking his head. “C’mon, doctor trouble. Let’s teach those kids something cool.”

And you went back inside with him, like other times he came to pick you up at the ambulance bay. It was like he knew you like the back of his hand, like he had everything figured it out even if you never told him. Deep inside he knew, no matter how much you tried to keep him out of your heart.
