Regarding THAT Scene in Jane's a Car Being Cut

They haven’t come right out and said why a certain scene in the JAC Nightmare Time Story was cut, and it very well could have been because of YouTube concerns. Given how many people complained about it in the Zoom version though I have to imagine that was the reason behind it’s omission.

I’ve said before I don’t like how certain StarKid fans (mostly some of the younger ones) treat the members and act like their bosses. When it comes to material that’s actually problematic I’m glad people call them out on it, but this doesn’t fall under that category. The complaints about the scene in question mostly boiled down to “it was weird/uncomfortable” (which was the whole point) and “I watched it with my family and it was an awkward experience”.

The thing is, StarKid is a company with a ton of “adult content” and at this point if you’re going into it unprepared to possible see that type of content that’s on you (especially something like Nightmare Time which was designed for people who’ve consumed some of their previous work). If you want to be on the safe side, you can ask StarKid to give a rating beforehand like they’ve done on social media a few times in the past to give you an idea of what you’re in for and if it’s something you’d be comfortable watching with your family, but getting angry at them for posting that kind of content is simply unreasonable.

There have been similar issues in this vein in regards to whether minors should see things StarKids post on social media. Again, they’re a company who produces adult content and technically have no responsibility to “keep it clean” just because there are minors in the fandom (in most cases they do, and that’s great, but at the end of the day they’re a company made up almost entirely of adults and produce a lot of content intended for adults).

All of this pearl-clutching is taking a lot of the wacky, unhinged vibe of StarKid away. I completely support calling out things that are problematic, but this wasn’t one of those times and some people are treating it the same way. It stifles StarKid’s creativity and could up making the *actual* problematic stuff not be taken seriously if it’s mixed in with trivial outrage like this.

this one might be unpopular on SK twitter but can SK twitter stans stop cancelling starkids all willy nilly? it's different from holding them accountable/calling them out. cancel culture as a whole just sucks. it's like how do you expect people to do better if all you're gonna do is berate them for something from the past? people have rights to be angry and disappointed at their favorite people, but I wouldn't spend every day bullying someone for something they're sorry for. holding that much anger for a long period of time is kinda unhealthy, just do something that makes ya happy man

hey starkid fans! just a psa for yall; i emailed starkid about paid content, and the OFFICIAL conclusion is that starkid does NOT allow anyone to post any parts of their paid content on youtube, even if it’s “just something small.” i know this isn’t ideal, but since starkid puts so much of their content on youtube for free, we should respect their decision to keep content like their tours and starkid homecoming behind a paywall. please don’t post anything that isn’t already public and on the starkid youtube channel!
