          it’s her SCENT that first did him in   –––––   a beautiful girl who smells like fresh bread and FLOWERS,   he was a goner from the day they met   –––––   and it still does too many embarrassing things to him even now.     he inhales,   mouth brushing the very corner of hers,   merely a light tease because he knows they’ll get too distracted otherwise.     “ right.     i promise,   i’ll never subject you to pennywise again. ”     he hadn’t found it all that scary   ( LACKLUSTER,   actually,   compared to its novel counterpart )   but he should have known wendy WOULD.     he leans closer now,   hand sliding round to press against her lower back.     “ i actually rented the shining   –––––   did you ever see it ? ”

wendy thinks it’s so NICE that adam humours her, even over her silly little fear of horror movies. she takes her SERIOUSLY, when so many others don’t. so when she says, “ thank you. you’re a true gentleman. ” --- she’s almost serious. she tilts her head, hoping for a KISS, but adam’s being almost too gentlemanly now. “ no, i didn’t. is it terribly scary ? you may have to sleep in my bed to ensure i don’t have nightmares. ”

          “ oh   –––––   no,   chocolate’s fine.     you… really didn’t have to do that,   though. ”     she’s UNCOMFORTABLE as she takes her seat across from wendy,   tempted to give her the same money talk blue’s had to give her brother at least FIVE times already,   but wendy’s request steals the thought away.     “ okay.     what kind of HELP ?     if it’s gansey-related,   i’m sorry,   but i think he’s a little beyond saving. ”

" oh no, i did --- think of it as payment for your help ! ” she smiles, takes a sip of her own ( strawberry ) milkshake, then frowns a little at the mention of gansey. is it selfish that wendy wants blue to think of HER before she thinks of GANSEY ? certainly it must be. “ no, it’s ... fashion related. i want to make a dress ! and i’m quite competent at the simple kinds of sewing, but i don’t really have the ARTISTIC EYE or SKILL that you do. ” she smiles again hopefully. “ so ... would you help me ? ”

blue:

          blue should be ASHAMED of herself for getting so close.     for letting wendy into her life,   into her bed,   even if just to look over a map of ley lines for her brother.     for making her LAUGH,   for not pulling away when she gets too close,   for going still when the moment shifts into something else   –––––   her breath on blue’s cheek,   blue’s gaze too intense where it lingers on full lips,   blue’s hand on her knee.     “ i can’t, ”   she whispers.     she’s forgotten how many times she’s been told she will kill her true love.     “ i’m SORRY.     i can’t. ”

once again, she’s been foolishly optimistic, misread the signs, confused blue’s friendliness for something more. she freezes, her mind a little numb as she stumbles her words: “ oh -- of course, that’s -- i’m sorry, um ... ” she pulls away. the numbness recedes, leaving a stinging, shameful SADNESS. “ shall we ... shall we keep working ? ” if blue can just not look at wendy too closely, if they go back to studying the map, wendy can certainly get her emotions under control and keep blue as her FRIEND. “ or should i go ... ? ”

adam doesn’t seem to LIKE making a big deal of his birthday. he seemed happy with all wendy’s suggestions — a bike ride, a picnic in the woods, back to adam’s to watch a movie together, and what she delicately referred to as ‘ private time ’ , blushing all the while. now, later, they lie in the humid heat of adam’s bedroom, with blinds drawn and windows wide open, and a small fan by the bed doing its damnedest to keep them cool. the sheets are kicked to the end of the bed so wendy draw lines between adam’s freckles with her fingertips, dreaming constellations over his chest & arms & cheeks.

“ i hope you don’t mind … ” – she pulls away momentarily to reach over the edge of the bed, drawing a carefully wrapped box from her bag – “ i brought you a present. ” she chews her lip, nervously gauging his expression: adam notoriously reacts to gansey-gifts BADLY; but this is a special occasion, it’s his birthday & what kind of girlfriend would she be if she didn’t get him something ? “ if you don’t like it we can – i can keep it for myself. ” she places the gift on his chest, tucking her hair behind her ears as she waits for him to – she hopes – unwrap it.

it’s definitely more of a romantic experience for her than anything else, and she wants a close connection with someone before she sleeps with them. she’s very vocal and enthusiastic, and after she gets over her initial shyness ( which is still there to begin with no matter how eager she is ! ) she’s not afraid to be detailed and exact about what she wants & enjoys. wendy’s also willing to explore different things, but tends to be vanilla, as well as generally more submissive.

absolutely. though she can get tongue-tied easily, she also has a natural gift for storytelling, and giving people compliments / praise comes naturally to her.
