It was funny—all the things that didn’t matter anymore. The silly, flimsy opinions of people that used to carry weight for her felt so impossibly petty in hindsight. Things that had seemed life-or-death before she knew what life-or-death really meant.

“You alright?” His voice was low and gravelly. Knowing him, he probably hadn’t slept well surrounded by unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar place.

Corinne nodded. “Mmhm.”

Ok so it has been just about a calendar year but I SAID I wouldn't abandon this and I DIDN'T lol :D

Fic Update--Another Life

“Do you think they’re happy here? The settlers?” She ran her fingers absently over the arm of the chair as she said it.

Fuck no. No, not even a little bit. He remembered damn well what it was like to eke out a living off the barren land and sure, he’d grown up quite a ways from the Commonwealth, but shit was the same wherever you went. Folks worked their fingers to the bone to starve slowly while they watched other, stronger assholes take half of what little shit they had and live a helluva lot better. He ain’t a fuckin’ paragon of goodness like some backwoods farmer who made an honest living struggling until he died, but at least he wasn’t a miserable sheep waiting for the axe to fall on the back of his neck.

She probably wasn’t really asking, though.

“Dunno,” he grumbled.

Fic Update: Another Life

The tram finally slid to a full stop after a painfully long time creeping along in the dark. The station wasn’t lit like it had been when she’d fired the terminal up months ago, but the light from outside slunk down the stairs and filled the space with hazy grey. Maybe it was the deja-vu or maybe it was the creeping dizziness in the back of her brain, but nothing felt quite real and she couldn’t tell if that was bitterly funny or deeply frightening.

“Ready?” Gage’s voice was low and even—no hint of emotion.

She’d never been ready for a damn thing her whole life. But if that hadn’t stopped her to this point, it might as well not stop her now.

Fic Update: Another Life

He kept looking over at her like he expected to see something else. Something different. For all he’d learned, she ought to look different, in some way, but she was just the same as she’d been since he’d met her and something about that made it all the more real. A whole other person—a stranger he’d thought he knew, hiding in the skin of the woman he’d spent the last few months arguing with. Among other things.

But he looked over and she was still just Corinne. Same face. Same shape. Same person. Spun his head around in circles.

Just wanted to put a plug in for one of my new fav websites, Can I Play That?, which focuses on accessbility reviews of video games by disabled gamers. As someone with a dexterity/mobility disability in my hands (carpal tunnel) I NEED games that allow easy and convenient ways to push buttons to do stuff and let me rebind keys at will. I’m now checking Can I Play That? before buying games since their reviews are ++. They include accessibility reviews for deaf/hard of hearing and cognitive disabiliies too.
