“You have to work super hard!”, something that has become his motivation

Lee Jaejin will follow Lee Hongki, FTISLAND’s vocalist, to enlist on January 21. In FTISLAND, he is in charge of the bass, subvocals, and recently, composing too. (t/n: I don’t know what they meant with “recently”, Jaejin started writing for FTISLAND with I Believe Myself and that was back in 2009. He started composing for FTISLAND with Yume, and that was in 2011.)  has finally released his own songs, 3 months before he makes his enlistment, through his first solo mini album, Scene.27.

Jaejin presented us with a world unique to him, a world of music that is different than that of FTISLAND’s. Using Jazz as the basis, his songs are filled with warmth and softness, the way that he as person is.

There were barely any chances for us to visit him for an interview during his tour to commemorate the release of his album, but we were finally able to visit his waiting room in Nagoya concert hall for his solo mini live and listen to his story. Starting with the release of his album, Scene.27 and following up with his solo live, we made an approach to Lee Jaejin’s artistry.

In KINGDOM, he still holds on to his belief that FT is still the best.

――This issue will be an FNC FAMILY exclusive, so we would like to talk about KINGDOM first. As one of the performers, is there anything that you look forward to?

First of all, I am looking forward to meet the FNC family after a long time. We don’t really have that many chances to meet like this. And when we do get to perform together, I could only think of “as expected, we are still the best!” (laughs) Hongki hyung always said, “I don’t wanna do KINGDOM”, but when we started to perform, his gaze would change. For us, we also look forward to perform together with CNBLUE, our good rivals. However, they still can’t beat us of course, at least for us, huhuhu, sorry CN (laughs)

However, for the 3rd interview, they skipped the part where they talked about Seunghyun, so I’m just gonna add it briefly here: :)

Even though he has a bright and positive personality, he has been through some difficult times. FTISLAND’s Song Seunghyun who is cast in the stageplay “Yeodo” right now revealed that he is up to anything without hesitation as long as he is given the chance to show his acting again.

“It has been hard in the past 4 years that I didn’t have any personal activities. It wasn’t to the extent that it was depressing, but it was hard that it changed my personality. I thought of ‘I have the ability, but why can’t I show it’, so I do have the confidence. I don’t want to take a break for a long time. If I take a long break, it feels like it would be hard for me to pick things up again. It doesn’t matter what kind of role, be it a small theater role, a theater role, I’m ready for anything. I want to reflect and grow as an actor.”

Even though it has been while that he is in a stage performance, for him to act Lee Sung who acts like a maniac as he tries to revel the cause of King Danjong’s death, it feels just natural. He reveals that through this opportunity, he wants to be able to be active in a wide variety of genres.

“I’m happy that through Yeodo, I get to learn theater once again, I get to learn all the basics and skills one by one. Once I learn enough, I think I can express a wider array of emotions in the movie. I am especially interested in movies. Dramas are scary, because you get the feedback right after. I don’t know if I’m good, but there are a lot of people like Park Bogum and Song Joongki sunbae who are handsome, with small face and perfect ratio, right? Since I’m not like them, I want to find a character that fits my image the most.”

MinHwan : Our SeungHyun who I’ve spent over 10 years with as we cried and laughed.. when I look back now, I see so many things that have happened and so many memories. The thing I want to say more than anything else is that as a member and as a friend, you worked harder than anyone during that time, I’ve been so grateful, and I love you. We’ll always support SeungHyun’s future, and we’ll keep protecting this spot and wait as we remember the days we stood on stage together! I’ve been so grateful for the times we’ve been together, and I love you a lot, SeungHyun!!

Jaejin's Letter : To Primadonna,

I’m worried about our fans who must be very surprised by the sudden news, and I’m very sorry. It seems we weren’t able to keep our promise to always be together or your request that we protect FTISLAND, and so I have a very heavy heart. I’m sorry to be expressing the feelings in my heart like this in a post.

Our Seung Hyun is leaving the team now to start a new journey. As someone who has been with him for a long time as a fellow member and brother, I’m upset and my heart aches over us going separate ways right now, but I am going to support Seung Hyun’s decision, which he made after a long time of worrying about it.

I want to use this letter as an opportunity to once again say thank you to Seung Hyun, who has always been cheerful and taken responsibility and has always worked hard.

We’re going through yet another farewell before our recent wound has healed, but I’m going to put off that pain for now.

We will protect our spot and firmly go forward for the sake of our Primadonna who will be having an even harder time than anyone else and for Seung Hyun.

We will continue to remain like this and wait together so that he can come back at any time. I hope that on the new journey that Seung Hyun is taking, he will spend a meaningful time finding himself and be truly happy. Everyone, please support him and wait for him together with us!

I believe that after getting through a cold winter, a warmer spring comes.
