I have seen some people clown on Kyo for his fashion sense mainly in the reboot. But I think he looks fine and its not like it bothers him or Tohru anyway.

I find it ironic that the same people who will flock and shriek at any posts critical of Akito's conclusion (her getting away scot free with years of abuse) will constantly go on and on about how Fruits Basket is about forgiveness and if you don't like the ending "you didn't understand the story or themes" will say that Kyo deserved the harsh treatment he received during the hospital arc for two reasons 1st he hurt Tohru's feelings and 2nd it is funny. He was looking out for Tohru by rejecting her yes he did it in a very harsh way but he had his reasons such as his crippling guilt and his future confinement. And people in general treating him like crap and saying he is worthless it was because of people like Akito who instilled those ideas into his head. Kyo should have been allowed to explain himself sooner and Akito should have never been allowed anywhere near Tohru after she tried to murder her.

Be a little serious please
Akito simps/apologists are already a sinister group of people who whitewash or shift blame for the abuse she inflicts on others so they can feel comfortable stanning her uncritically. But you clowns are really out here hyping up her appearance and talking about how sexy she is even when she is abusing people (the fact that I have seen people praise her for beating a child to a pulp and trying to murder Rin twice) is why I don't care when her stans act like they are oppressed for liking her character. She abuses everyone and attempts to kill multiple people there shouldn't have to be such divisive conversations on what a shit person she is but here we are because Takaya handled her character in one of the most irresponsible ways possible. It basically ends with her nearly getting two more people killed but she feels bad now so its okay for her not to get proper consequences but fuck Kyo he deserves to be punished for making a mistake that he thought would ultimately benefit Tohru in the long run vs Akito who is a homicidal abuser who had the absolute worst intentions for her.
Anyway back to people praising her for her looks y'all are really out hear saying shit like " WeLl I dON't CaRE AboUT tHE BaD STuff sHE DId ShE LooKEd GoOD DoiNg IT"
Y'all are simping and disregarding any sort of morals so you can fawn over Akito.
All this over a character who is basically the fruits basket equivalent of a Kirito reskin if we are being honest with ourselves here.

People in the Fruits Basket fandom need to stop using themes and symbolism as a deflection for horrible nonsensical writing.
Yes I am talking mostly about the ending. No way in hell would Uo and Hana ever be friendly with someone who abused and tried to murder their best friend. Everything surrounding Akito's ending is horseshit, people are way too charitable and trusting of her. She has done everything in her power to hurt and manipulate those around her and she just tried to murder another two people. But she cries and feels slightly bad for it so she is instantly changed overnight and people just immediately believe her when she says she is going to be better.
Their is a huge difference between trusting and forgiving someone who has hurt you vs having illogical kindness to the point of harm to yourself and others.

Someone reblogging this by saying they are just going to ship them harder, completely glossing over Akito's extremely abusive behaviour towards Tohru. This is why i will never be convinced otherwise that these people actually give a fuck about Tohru, they only see her as a tool to "redeem" Akito or they self insert themselves onto her so they can be with Akito. Y'all make me sick. People who act like they are oppressed for liking problematic things need to be serious for once in their lives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't trust Tohru stans that ship her with Akito. Imagine shipping her with the person who stabbed and almost murdered her and then going around acting like you love her character couldn't be me.
This applies to Takaya too their friendship is twisted and disgusting on so many levels and Akito does not deserve any sort of forgiveness for all the unforgivable shit she did to Tohru and the people she loves. Takaya will always be hated by me for writing that plotline. And the fact that she was originally going to have them end up together while Akito was still conceived as a male character is disgusting, its already bad enough with her being forced into a friendship with her abuser a romantic relationship is even worse.

Tohru being friends with Akito was one of the worst endings Takaya could have given her. And Takaya will always be hated by me for that.
It is disrespectful and insulting not only to Tohru's character but to the beautiful friendships she builds with the zodiacs. That plotline is deeply damaging to her character and that is why I don't consider it canon it adds nothing but negatives to Tohru and fuck Akito anyway she didn't deserve a friendship with someone who she treated so poorly she was straight up homicidal to her. What a beautiful friendship you crafted there Takaya.

Love getting to see her stubborn side.
The 1st gif legitimately makes me angry tho. Akito my hatred for her grows stronger by the day. The way she treats Tohru is vile.

I hate how people in this fandom will try to take the stance that "no one in Fruits Basket is truly evil, the show rejects that message" as a way to absolve Akito of all her disgusting actions. But then will turn around and villainize the maids and Ren when they are all terrible.
I know we all agree that Ren is the biggest bitch of all bitches but I’m sooOOO tired of people tooting about how “she’s the true villain” and if I see any more of these when she’s introduced in the anime officially, I’m going to go feral.
People seem to conveniently forget that Ren herself was also horribly mistreated by the Sohma clan, and the clan members actively encouraged the antagonism between her and Akito by using Akito’s position as head of the family and god to further alienate Ren from the clan/Akira, which only fueled Ren’s insecurity and vitriol towards her daughter. Ren projected the abuse she received from the clan onto Akito, who then went on and projected that abuse onto the zodiacs.
And while Ren is horrible in her own right, Akito’s criminal acts of violence and abuse has escalated far beyond anything Ren has ever done, and frankly, it’s disgusting to see so many people continuously use Ren as a scapegoat for Akito’s own individual acts of abuse towards a bunch of innocent people who have nothing to do with either her or Ren. And while Akito does change in the end whereas Ren never does, for the majority of the story, it’s laughably ironic that Akito despises Ren for being awful and horrible only to grow up to be exactly like her but worse.
The whole “Ren is the TRUE villain” is not only wrong because Ren doesn’t actively oppose the main characters, whereas Akito does, but by making Ren out to be the One True Evil, it deprives Akito of the responsibility for her own abusive actions. Not to mention, Ren being the “one true evil” is also wrong because Ren is a product of the abuse she endured from the Sohma family just as much as Akito is a product of Ren’s abuse. Which is important to the greater narrative of systematic family abuse– there is no “one evil”, just a bunch of selfish and narrow minded people congregated in a cult like family.
But as far as Akito is concerned, the culpability of her own crimes lies solely and squarely on her shoulders, and that responsibility is not Ren’s, nor anyone else’s to bear. Akito very much IS the “true villain” of this show, and she always will be. Just because mommy dearest is a bitch doesn’t change the fact that the antagonist is LITERALLY Akito’s role in the story.

We all know that only fools think Tohru’s a doormat or stupid, but one thing I don’t think people appreciate enough of is the fact that Tohru starts out by knowing jack shit about the Sohma clan/zodiac curse, and yet she became more knowledgeable about this topic than a lot of the Sohmas themselves are.
She finds out so many critical secrets regarding the Sohmas that most of the younger Sohmas aren’t even aware of at the time: Kyo’s confinement, Akito’s gender, Akito’s past, Kureno’s curse being broken, the fact that the curse CAN be broken… not only that, she finds out the true nature of the curse and Akito’s role despite it being a really secretive and touchy subject that most of the zodiacs don’t want to go into. She was able to get information out of both Rin and Kureno, two of the toughest nuts to crack in terms of prying information out of, or even getting in contact with. She goes on a massive side quest just to meet with Kureno, and for the most part, a lot of her exploits are relatively successful, showing that she is capable of getting things done on her own without getting her ass into super hot water and needing to be rescued.
Tohru isn’t just proactive, she’s crazy resourceful, knows how and when to play her cards, and knows how to ask the right questions to the right people to get the information she seeks. The fact that she’s also super stubborn and never backs down just makes her side quests that much more adventurous and fun to follow.

Kyo and the 5 Stages of Grief-
(SPOILER WARNINGS) Kyo absolutely goes through all five stages of grief about Kyoko, the stages are moved around and combined, so some people probably missed the signs.
1- Right After the Death
Depression: Immediately after Kyoko’s death, he went into a deep depression and Kazuma knew it was bad, so he took Kyo away for four months to try to help him with the depression.
Tumblr media
2- Four Months-A year After Death
This is where people would miss it and what I mean by combined stages.
Bargaining: Kyo shifts the blame onto Yuki to make himself feel better. “If it’s the rats fault, I don’t have to feel so horrible anymore.”
Tumblr media
Anger: He came off as very irritable at the start. He was a lot more susceptible to fits of rage and fighting when he first moved into Shigure’s house (not too long after Kyoko’s death).
Tumblr media
Denial: People probably don’t remember how he was in denial. He was in denial by completely refusing to acknowledge Tohru as “Tohru Honda: Kyoko’s daughter.” That’s why he never used her name until True Form arc, he was in complete denial about acknowledging Kyoko and her daughter.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
3- One Year-Two Years After Death
More combined stages.
Acceptance: The beginning of his road for acceptance was at the beach. After talking to Akito, he finally accepted his feeling for Tohru, but also accepted the reality and guilt of Kyoko’s death.
Tumblr media
Denial: He was still in denial at this time, but it shifted to being about deserving love and a happy life. He only fully accepted everything that happened with Kyoko and released his guilt/denial when he decided he truly wanted to have a happy life and be with Tohru.

Tumblr media
But yeah, that’s what I view how Kyo went through the 5 Stages of Grief. If you guys have a differing opinion or want to add your own 2 cents, let me know!
