Happy Birthday, David
The latest viral video for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus asks us: “what is it about robots that makes them so robotic?” Introducing David, a synthetic built by Weyland Industries, whose haunting display of artificial intelligence gives us a teasing glimpse into the future. If Prometheus wasn’t on your radar before (for shame!), Michael Fassbender’s gleaming performance might just change your mind.

Beyond the Black Rainbow
Panos Cosmatos ‘ new film, Beyond The Black Rainbow, feels like the best possible conglomeration of 2001, Electroma, and A Clockwork Orange.
Beyond the Black Rainbow will have a US release by Magnet Releasing later this year.

Our friend Bennett Schatz (full disclosure, Sam's roommate) explores connections between human, machine, intent, and action, with a box, emitting a strange light, that uses him as a tool to create art. TENS wires cause him to involuntarily flex his hand and manipulate sculpting clay. The created and the creator play off of each other, as the resulting sculpture takes shape with no intervention on Bennett's part, except, arguably, in creating the box...
"Using the arduino, a relay system, and a personal TENS unit to control my arm/hand in an attempt to turn my arm into a golem controlled by the computer for the purpose of manipulating a sculptural medium (in this case the clay). Still in the prototyping stage. [..] Music by White Rainbow. "

Quote
I write novels to find questions, not because I know the answers…the only conscious purpose of the Blue Ant books was that I realized after All Tomorrow’s Parties that the yardstick I used for measuring cognitive dissonance on the page as opposed to the world outside was an eighties yardstick. So I wrote Pattern Recognition to update the yardstick. ...Google Streetview changed how my imagination worked — you could spend the rest of your life describing a single block — inadequately.
