It takes everything inside Clover not to burst out laughing, even as the rest of his team does beside him. He can only smile politely at Marrow’s enthusiasm. 

“That’s an interesting battle cry, Marrow.” Clover teases with a chuckle. 

“I don’t think you should do that again. Ever” 

“It’s inspiring,” Marrow insists, chest puffed out as he smiles proudly at his captain, emboldened by the laughter around him. “And it will strike fear into the hearts of our enemies. If Grimm can feel fear. That’s not important right now! I’m still practicing. Watch!”

With that, he inhales another long, deep breath, and lets it loose with an earsplitting “HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYEYYEAAAAAAAAAH!”

“They’re just kids” (spoilers under cut)

This line sticks out to me, because it’s spoken about Team FNKI. And they are. They’re just kids. Unlike the protaganists, they haven’t had experience out in the world, fighting Salem. They’re students. 

But. Marrow is, basically, still just a kid too. His age is officially 18-21. He’s only a few years older than them. Yeah, he’s an Ace Operative, but he’s still a rookie. He’s never seen a full-scale battle like this - he’s just had a few years experience as a Huntsman. 

He still has a lot to learn, but unlike Team FNKI, he’s known about Salem for a while ( canon doesn’t specify, but at least several months, if not longer ). That knowledge changed his view of the world, and even if he’s not that much older than FNKI, he feels older because of that knowledge. 

Marrow, however, is still way out of his depth here.

The Magnus Archives Verse | Just a normal dude

Marrow ran a ghost hunting show with his friend and former captain in the military, Clover Ebi, until Clover was taken by the Hunt ( my Clover @reborngrimm ). Clover still hangs around, and is oddly protective, and at times possessive, of Marrow, but honestly, after working at the Institute following Clover’s disappearance, it’s not the weirdest thing to happen to him. 

His life has been really weird these past few months.

Marrow has always been flighty and overactive, often daydreaming during class and getting in trouble for climbing things he shouldn’t be- running up slides, walking across the top of monkey bars, hanging upside down from the swingset. It was his sister who suggested he look at becoming a Huntsman- he was obviously an intelligent person, but he would struggle with any jobs that required monotony, or for him to sit still. He loved this suggestion, at first because he thought Huntsmen were so cool, and he wanted to be like them, and then later because he believed he could truly help people and make a difference in the world by becoming one.
