Iced coffee accounts for one in five new coffee launches – study
Tumblr media
Chilled coffee is thriving in the US, growing at least 10% annually between 2013 and 17. More than half (56%) of new RTD coffee launches in the US were cold brew in 2017. Cold brew sales reached an estimated $38 million in 2017, representing a single-year growth of 137%.  Meanwhile, RTD coffee is also building momentum in China. Mintel forecasts annual growth of near an estimated 20% in the next five years as RTD steals market share from instant coffee.

All about National Doughnut Day
Tumblr media
We found out not only how National Doughnut Day got its start, we’ve delved into the history and mystery of these fried wonderments. Makes a good read while you enjoy a donut on National Doughnut Day, celebrated in donut shops across the country, every first Friday in June. About National Doughnut Day The Salvation Army started National Donut Day in 1938. But the story begins much earlier. In 1917, The Salvation Army began to provide support for U.S. soldiers fighting in World War I. Volunteers traveled overseas and to work near the front lines and supply soldiers with clothes and other needs, including baked goods.

History of Coffee - Surprising Facts About Coffee and Caffeine
Tumblr media
1. Shepherds discovered coffee in Ethiopia circa 800 A.D. Legend has it that 9th century goat herders noticed the effect caffeine had on their goats, who appeared to "dance" after eating coffee berries. A local monk then made a drink with coffee berries and found that it kept him awake at night, thus the original cup of coffee was born. 2. Coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth. According to the Global Exchange, there are approximately 25 million farmers in over 50 countries involved in producing coffee. The number one commodity? Oil. 3. In Italian espresso means "when something is forced out." This refers to the way espresso is made — forcing boiling water through pressed coffee grounds. And, although espresso has more caffeine per volume than coffee, because it's consumed in smaller quantities, it actually has about a third of the amount of caffeine as a regular cup of coffee.

Destination Colombia - Colombian Coffee
Tumblr media
ttp://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
Columbian Coffee When someone mentions South American coffee, what they usually mean is coffee from Columbia. Colombian coffee is widely regarded as some of the best coffee in the world and the nation produces the third most coffee in the world after Brazil and Vietnam. Like several of the coffee-producing countries on the continent, most of the growing regions in Columbia are in parts of the Andes mountain range, which provides the altitudes that are optimal for farming coffee. History Like most of South America, coffee was introduced to the Colombian biosphere by Spanish colonists in the 17th century. Stories of coffee’s origin suggest that it was Jesuit priests who brought coffee to Columbia originally, but there are no confirmed accounts of that. Although it was grown throughout the 18th century, it was not exported until 1835, when a shipment of 2500 pounds of coffee was shipped to the United States. Coffee quickly became Columbia’s biggest export crop and tariffs on exported coffee were a main source of income for the government. After Columbia gained its independence from Spain in 1819, most of the coffee were huge plantations owned by the social elite of the country. Land reform in the 1930s did a little to address the unequal distribution of land in the country, but by the 1980s, most of the arable land was owned by ranches once again. Fortunately, in the past thirty years, there has been great improvement in allowing smaller farmers to get a foot in the door, at least in the coffee industry.

Casa Brasil Coffee | Stay Roasted
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
CHASING THE PERFECT ROAST
We travel to Brazil each harvest to taste hundreds of coffees from throughout Brazil’s coffee growing regions. We are constantly seeking new partners and tasting how the peculiarities of each year affect the harvest. We’ve Found Some Great Partners - After nearly a decade of doing this, we are fortunate enough to have developed great relationships with some of Brazil’s top growers. We Detach from the Commodity Market, Pay a Consistent Price, and Pay Well - Traditionally coffee prices are based on the commodity market. High quality coffees receive a “premium” over the market price while lower quality coffees are sold for a “discount.” However, the commodity price fluctuates greatly and growers often operate in uncertainty, not knowing if the price they will receive will compensate them for the extra steps they took to produce high quality coffee. Our relationships are not based on the commodity market, but rather we pay a consistent price for high quality coffee that is well above the C Market and even the Fair Trade price floor. Transparency and Right of First Refusal - Not only do we pay top dollar, but we offer our growing partners complete transparency in exchange for the right of first refusal on their top lots. Proper drying and storage - To maintain quality, it is imperative that the coffee is properly dried and stored. We work with our growing partners to take every step possible to maintain quality, from climate-controlled warehousing to special packaging during transport. We Roast to Order - All of our coffees are freshly roasted to order. We Taste Every Batch - Every batch that comes out of our roaster is cupped to ensure quality before it goes out the door. We Chase the Perfect Roast - Coffee is a seed that interacts with an ever-changing environment. We are constantly fine tuning our roasts to get the most we can out of every coffee.
