Sonic The Comic- Reading Order
Asique me tomé la libertad de armar mi propia guía de lectura tras ver que nadie más lo había hecho;
Issue 0/ STH Lauch Advertisment (opcional)
Sonic The Comic 1-20#
Sonic The Poster Mag 3#
Sonic The Comic 21-32#
Sonic The Poster Mag 5#
Sonic The Summer Special
Sonic The Comic 33-34#
Sonic The Poster Mag 6#
Sonic The Comic 35-44#
Sonic The Poster Mag 8-9#
Sonic The Comic 45-52#
Sonic The Holiday Special 1995
Sonic The Comic 53-72#
Knuckles Knock-Out Special
Sonic The Comic 73-79#
Sonic The Holiday Special 1996
Sonic The Comic 80-184#

Where can I read Sonic the comic?
Since it is an old british comic and Fleeway editions closed years ago. It’s quite difficult to get a physical copy, you can find some second handed issues on Ebay, if you are lucky, but you won’t find anything in Amazon or any usual place that sells comics.
But the internet is here for us.
The comic never got out of the UK (except for some French translations) and it’s quite old, most legal online places won’t have it. So also finding a legal way to read a digital version of this comic is a challenge in itself.
But that’s why I am here for:
One of the few places we can find the comic is this website that it is an archive of very old UK comics/magazines out of the market (some of these things are over 50 years old now and you probably won’t find them anywhere else).
  http://read.ukprintarchive.com/Egmont%20Fleetway/Licensed%20Comics/Sonic%20The%20Comic/Sonic%20The%20Comic/
Then we have this entire channel on You tube call “Sonic the Comic Reviews” that is  almost exclusively dedicated to the series.
You have the whole issues of the comic, expecific scenes , retrospectives, some summer special (that you won’t find anywhere else) and even videos dedicated to explaining the story of some characters.
https://www.youtube.com/c/TheUltimateFrieza/videos
Some things about the comic:
The comic doesn’t really find its footing until issue 7 (this issue is also when the most known character of the series is introduced), when one of the main writes Nigel Kitching and artist Richard Elson entered the scene and ended up defining most of the identity and tone of the comic. You can read the six issues that came before, but you won’t miss anything major if you decide to skip them, they are self contain stories with no impact on the plot.
Another little note:
There is no need to read after issue 184, since everything after that it’s  all reprints of old stories (Don’t be fooled by the different covers! It’s all the same old stories). This was a practise the publishing company (Aka. Fleetway) used back in the day with the intention of trying to get new readers into the comic , but mostly they were saving money by not paying any artists or writers.
Issue 184  is the last original story and the ending of the comic.
And this is just a fun fact: Issue 2 and some other early issues were written by…Mark Miller (Yes, that one).
That’s all I can give, and I hope you found it useful.
A little side note about STC online (or Sonic the comic online) and where to find a quick sum up of the whole story in the comic ⬇
Keep reading

Sonic and Tails get to the Death Egg’s control room and...
Tumblr media
THIS. This is what makes Sonic a hero in every continuity. He’s willing to risk his life to save people. And even if this version of Sonic finds Tails a little annoying, he’s still going to make sure he’s safe too.
Tumblr media
And so Tails thinks Sonic dies. After this is a few panels where Tails reflects on Sonic’s heroism, and grieves for him. The art doesn’t show this well at all--one of the panels is shown below--but if you can improve it in your imagination, it’s really touching.
Tumblr media
But of course, Sonic isn’t dead. He somehow escaped the falling Death Egg and climbed up Tails’ escape pod, which is both egg-shaped and mid-air. Yeah, it makes no sense.
Tumblr media
Sonic! The kid literally thought you were dead! Cut him some slack!!
StC Sonic: risks his life to save everyone, then gives people grief for grieving.

Tails is a curious boi
This issue actually takes place after the events of Sonic 2, so Silver Sonic is already beat up. This time, Sonic takes it the rest of the way apart.
Which raises the question, why is Wing Fortress still in the sky, when Robotnik isn’t using it anymore? Why are there still Cluckers around, when Sonic should have broken them all open already to free the animals?
It doesn’t make sense, but this is a comic issue from the 90′s which will soon have no significance in the rest of the series, so whatever.

The Kintobor Computer says that the Death Egg is on a crash course for the Emerald Hill Zone! Sonic and Tails rush to Wing Fortress so they can reach the Death Egg, just like in the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look! It’s the Clucker badnik! And the barrier boss! I love these direct rips from the game, and I’m enjoying them while I can.
And Sonic is being foolish, what else is new?

Sonic the Comic #6
Tumblr media
Nothing to say about the cover, so let’s get to the story!
Tumblr media
This is the first mention of Dr. Kintobor, and he is Very Important. I’d call this the Comic’s first real step away from the games.
If you don’t already know about Kintobor, it’s explained here. More info to come in issue #8.
Also, Sonic has a secret base! That’s good to know.

Very cool! Great art!
I’m kinda sad that Tufftee only appears in one comic. Like, why doesn’t he make background appearances with Sally?
Anyway, if you can’t tell by this point, I love @smugbugunderarug’s readthrough of StC. They’re very funny (what little I’ve reblogged isn’t even the beginning), they notice things I don’t, occasionally make original art, and have access to bonus stuff like the Control Zone. If you read my blog, please read smugbug’s as well! They need more love.

I was thinking about how STC Sally would look as a more modern looking character. Gave her sad-eyes cause she was crying for pretty much the entire issue. I’m pretty sure she’s just a kid in this universe so I tried to give her Tail’s proportions.
Oh, and I got carried away with Tufftee, too…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…like, way too carried away.
I kept thinking what he would be like in the Archie universe, and although I knew there was no way to fit him in the comics’ lore, it was a fun what if to draw. Since STC #3 depicted him as a kid who really admires Sonic, I kind of took that in mind with his design in both versions (but this time he didn’t take Sonic’s shoes cause that’s way too creepy, lol). Tufftee probably wouldn’t be his real name, but probably just a nickname from his wannabe tough attitude. I also gave him the famous “Acorn Eyebrows” in his preboot design, but since Sally didn’t have her’s after the SGW I decided to snatch his brows, too. He turned from being a scruffy-looking-adventure-kid-prince to baby-face-wannabe-hero-prince XD.
More Archie Tufftee what-if’s down below.

Yeah, these could be cool! All they need is modern redesign.
Some odd looking badniks
Tumblr media
Got like a cerberus badnik and a badger. I would actually be interested to see how they would be in a real Sonic game. These aren’t bad ideas for, like, mini-bosses or something.

The “Control Zone” of the first issue.
Tumblr media
It had info on the issue, news from Sega, a popularity chart for Sega games, and the like. As previously mentioned, StC was more like SEGA the Comic, at least at the start. All brought to you by Megadroid(on the right)! He referred to the creators of the comics as “the humes who think they’re in charge,” and referred to the readers as...
BOOMERS.
So I turn the page, right...

Oops, forgot to do this. Uh, queuing up now!
Now that I’ve finally updated, I’ll post some fun things from previous issues, courtesy of @smugbugunderarug, who is also reading StC! I have them saved, I just need to tag ‘em and put them in the queue.
