PINCH HITTERS NEEDED
We are well into our way for the event, and with a bigger event this time, drops are bound to happen. So we need pinch hitters.
Pinch hitters are people who step in when an author can no longer work on the fic. You will take a slide, write a 3,000 - 20,000 story in an accelerated timeline, and post it during the month of June with the rest of the authors. However, you will not receive a fic in return for your efforts. There's a chance you may not be called upon to be a pinch hitter! And if you are, you will be able to look at the slide and can decline to work on it. Declining will not mean you won't have another chance (if there is one) to pinch hit.
You can sign up here.
Your role in this event is invaluable! Thank you for considering to sign up as a pinch hitter.

Author Sign Ups are now closed!
Thank you all so much for your interest in the bang! If you were waitlisted and did not receive a Welcome Email, please note that you're still welcome to participate as a beta-reader or artist should those be in your skill set. Sign ups for those roles are still open!
We will also be opening up pinch hitting for authors in June. More details on that to come!
For those who did receive a Welcome Email, please keep an eye out for important information coming this evening regarding summary submissions and the first check-in. And, as always, check your spam folders periodically.

Howdy! 🤠 This might be a silly question, but I know there's already a waitlist so I wanted to ask. Will we get confirmation regardless of the cap? I submitted the Google form a couple days ago (I think), and sometimes Google will send an automatic "We Got It!", so I wanted to make sure that was the norm (and the first response we'd get would be from the Mods), so I didn't accidentally flood you with Sign-Up forms in my hasty confusion 😆
Hope this is okay to ask! Don't mean to rush you at all. Thanks for all that you do! 😊
Hi there! Not silly at all, and thank you for the kindness! The mods were “off duty” so to speak for the holiday weekend and are catching back up with emails, etc. There are a few new authors on the waitlist, artists, and beta readers whom we haven’t gotten emails out to just yet, but if you haven’t received an email by tomorrow, feel free to shoot us a DM with your info and we’ll make sure everything is on the up and up!

i just signed up as an author, but i was confused, what's a beta in this context?
Hi! Keep an eye out for an email— we’re just getting back online after the holiday weekend!
Betas are people who read over an author’s work and can help with editing, plot holes, flow, development, etc. They’re like a second set of eyes for authors.

⚓️ Steddie Bang Questions Round-Up: March 15 - March 30 🦇
Hey everyone!
First of all, we want to thank you so much for your interest in the 2024 Steddie Big Bang. We're blown away with how many talented authors and artists decided to join us on this round and can't wait to see everything you create over the next few months.
We know not all of you chose to join our Discord server, so we’ve decided to make a round-up post of the questions that we're asked on the server to ensure everyone sees it. If you have a question about the event, just hit us up anywhere you'd like and we'll be more than happy to help you.
If you decide to join our discord server at a later date, that's fine. Just message or email us and we'll get you a new link!
We also sent out a form this week asking for your feedback on Artist Claims to help us make an informed decision about the best way to structure them. We’ve answered some of the questions gathered from that form below as well.
Artist Claims Questions & Feedback Survey
We recognize that artist claims were very stressful last year and while claims can always be a little bit stressful, we want to make the process as smooth as possible for everyone involved.
Currently, we are entertaining the idea of doing a mixed Artist Claims process in which artists can decide whether they would like to claim a fic in the traditional way, or if they would like to be assigned a fic. If we were to include this option, traditional claims would occur as per usual. Artists who choose to claim will claim fics from slides on a first-come, first-serve basis and we would then assign remaining fics at the end of each round.
For those interested in being assigned fics, we would ask for either a list of top choices or for artists’ preferences (TBD) and pair accordingly. Nothing would be assigned randomly, as we want to ensure that pairings make sense and that everyone is excited about the projects they’re working on!
At this point, this is just an idea. We sent out the survey to determine how many participants would be interested in the additional assignment option.
We're also aware that having the claims process be a live event might be fun for some and stressful for others. Based on feedback, it’s clear that there’s a lot of unnecessary stress, negative feelings related to being the last project chosen, etc. with live claims so we will not be having live claims updates for authors.
Artists will be able to see what projects were claimed/assigned by the end of each round so that they can make their next choices if they so desire, but we want to help minimize as much stress and pressure on authors as possible.
While we still cannot guarantee that all projects will be matched with an artist, we feel confident that the odds are very good of everyone being paired based on our sign-up numbers.
Questions about the bang in general:
Q: If our fic gets picked, are we still allowed to make art for it ourselves?
A: You are more than welcome to make art for your bang fic in addition to whatever art your partner makes!
Q: How many fics are authors allowed to submit to the bang?
A: We ask that authors stick to one fic for this bang, which is typical of most big bangs.
We have the cap in place partly to ensure that there are only a certain number of projects during the posting season to minimize the chances of fics falling through the cracks because of too many posting at once. We also don’t want anyone to accidentally overcommit and burn themselves out!
Q: What happens if two or more authors have the same moderately specific idea? a hypothetical example, if someone else is writing a seinfeld au and I had the same idea, should i scrap what I've got and try to work toward something else?
A: There's nothing wrong with writing ideas that are similar and God knows that with a fandom this big, there's a lot of that! But we know that every one of you will have a personal spin to add to the idea, so just go for it!
Q: Will the event have a tag on Ao3 like the big bang last year had? I find it easier to look for the works once the posting period starts.
A: There will be an Ao3 tag along with a collection for the bang. Additional posting information, including tags, collections, etc. will come closer to posting season!

Scam Alert!
You may have heard about this scam going around on Discord, but just in case, we're sharing here as well.
Unfortunately, numerous people on Discord have been hacked, both in our server and in other servers, by engaging with this message. If you receive a DM that looks like this asking for help after accidentally reporting your account, report the message and do not engage.

hi!! so people can get off the waitlist if an author drops out, right, but also if more artists sign up? or is it limited to just the 100 slots for authors, no matter how many artists sign up? if it isn't limited to just the 100 slots, how many artists have signed up so far? thank you so much❤️
Hi! Yes, that's correct! If authors drop during sign ups, the next person on the waitlist will move up into their spot.
Regarding the author cap, we are basing it partially on artist sign ups, so there is a chance that we'll be able to increase it a bit. We won't be increasing the cap too significantly because we still don't want so many projects smushed into the posting period that they slip through the cracks, but we're planning on sending some new welcome emails to a few more authors today!

so happy to see so many people sign up for the bang, even if i didn't get in! question though: for anyone on the waitlist who makes it into the bang, will they be given any extra time to complete their fic? for example, if an author drops out in a month or so, the author who is chosen from the waitlist will have a month less to organise their fic and work with their artist. will any extensions be considered for them?
Hi there! We're very excited as well. This pairing sure has its claws in us all!
Regarding the waitlist, that's a great question. We're planning on only bringing authors in off the waitlist during the sign up period (now through April 15th) so no, there won't be an inherent extension as this will occur well before art claims and won't impede on collaboration time. That said, if an author is let in off the waitlist near the end of the sign up period, we'd encourage them to be mindful of the magnitude of their project and to claim a later posting date if necessary!
Additionally, we do have a built-in two week extension period for teams who reach out to us in advance if there are issues with posting during the current posting period.

Hi! Author in the waitlist here. How will you guys fill in the people on the waitlist? Is it if someone drops out as an author? If so, how will you guys choose who makes the cut?
Hi there! We’re filling in from the waitlist on a first come, first serve basis exactly how we did the first 100. So if someone drops out, whoever is next in the sign ups waitlist would move up a spot. If we’re able to expand the cap size with artist sign ups ongoing, the same process will apply!

Steddie Big Bang '24 Sign Ups- Update
Hi there! Friendly neighborhood mods checking in with an update on sign ups.
For authors, we have hit the 100 authors cap. Welcome emails were sent, so if you haven't received one yet, you are likely on our waitlist. We're still accepting sign ups for authors in the event we have drop-outs or if we're able to increase our cap during the sign up period!
Artist and beta-reader sign ups are still ongoing.
You're all incredible and we're so excited to see what you all create!

Question re fic guidelines: if I've posted a snippet (maybe 500 words? And no info re actual plot points i dont think) of an otherwise totally unpublished fic, can I still use that for the bang? Or is it too identifiable?
Hi there! So long as the short snippet doesn't contain identifiable plot points that will be in your summary for art claims, this should be fine! It may be a good idea to delete the post with the snippet if it was posted recently, to err on the side of caution.
