The Steele Experiment
5 posts
Hi . My name is Jason and i’m a personal trainer. I joined the gym industry back in the 1980’s and fitness has been my hobby , profession and passion for over 30 years. Over the last 3 decades i’ve trained and worked in many gyms across the world. Helped well over 500 personal clients reach their goals and had the fortune to train a few very special human beings ( Princess Diana of Wales ) . From Strength machines to free weights , functional training to group fitness classes , i’ve done the lot . Indoors , outdoors , at the gym or in the garden . I’ve designed workout programs for all requirements. I’ve tested supplements and pushed my body to its physical max . Starting with a bodyweight of just under to 73kg in 1990 and peaking at 92Kg in 2013. The reason i’m writing this blog , is because my biggest challenge lies ahead and i know there are many men out there , that are going through this stage as well. Almost 3 years at the age of 45 i became a father for the first time. 8 months ago my wife and i were blessed with a 2nd child. Although i continued to work in the fitness industry and i’m still in the gym everyday , my daily workouts evaporated slowly . To a point where after our 2nd child was born i completely stopped working out. I never thought this would happen to me. Being able to motivate my clients through their hardest of times , transferring that same energy back to me seemed almost impossible. Lack of sleep , irregular working hours and bad nutrition are the key factors. These 3 negative things followed up with , low energy and no motivation. This is all about to change though and from Jan 1st 2017 my experiment will beginn. At the age of 50 ( 16.11.2018) i want to accomplish a physical goal of mine. I will be the fastest 100m sprinter in Switzerland for my age category ( 50+ ) Not only that , but i also want to bring my bodyweight ( current 81kg ) up to just under 90kg. Throughout my training regime i will post updates , photos , ...

2nd day of the week yesterday and i completed my short step interval circuit in the morning and followed up teaching a body weight training HIIT class in the evening . Still felt the effects of the lung infection slightly but all seemed well. This morning Wednesday i completed a leg workout ( Leg press , Dumbbell squats , leg curl , leg extension and standing calf raises . All 3 sets hitting around 80% effort . Don't want to over do it yet and not be able to walk for days :-) . Also bought some BCAA’s . Teaching a circuit class tonight .

Ok. Finally back again . Its been a tough Jan so far . After getting through the first week of working out again , i caught a lung infection and spent the following 2 weeks on antibiotics . Training standstill.
Got back on track this week though and started yesterday with a light back/chest workout using Nautilus resistance machines ( upper/lower back , pullover and row - seated chest / incline , lying and incline pecdeck .  I followed this up with a short interval bodyweight circuit which i’m doing everyday this week . i’ll post a video and details later on at the end of the week .

03.01.16    Great start this morning . Arrived at the gym after fighting through the snow and ice . Leg day today and keeping things simple . Leg Press / Deadlift / Leg curl and extension and ending with standing calf raise.  Using 75% energy this morning i flew through 3 sets of each with 8 - 12 reps .
Also had no problem with the supplements today , unlike yesterday . Not feeling any muscle ache from yesterday yet either , so all good . Teaching a bodyweight HIIT class tonight , so tomorrows workout will be decided later on.

Ok ! Got day one off to an early start. Arrived at the gym for 7am for a light chest/back workout . Even the light weights felt heavier today . Stuck to the machines with 3 chest ( press / incline and pec deck ) and back ( Lat pull / upper and lower row ) Stomach felt a little rough after the 1st creatine and HMB intake before training . Will write more about this if the reaction continues . Took the same portion in the evening and all seems ok so far .
Its an early start again tomorrow with legs at 7am
