🤓 Sub Gale Au
“May I?” John asks, holding a hand out, palm up and unthreatening and it takes Gale far too many thudding heartbeats to realize John is requesting his own hand. “Non dominant to start.”
John’s fingers are shockingly light as they wrap around Gale’s offered left hand. Despite their size, his fingers are graceful, a few pitted scars on the knuckles like they’d met a wall or two in their day. Their touch feels barely like anything as John turns the pale inside of Gale’s wrist up.
Loops a strip of nylon around it.
Gale sucks in a breath.
“Gonna start off with showing you a few basic knots.” John says, “believe it or not, most of ropeworks bondage comes from the tension of the rope itself, not the strength of the knot. The tighter you tie that sucker, the harder it is to untie and the longer it takes you to get your partner free, the higher risk there is for serious injury.”
John’s voice is calm, a quiet authority to it. He means what he says, and isn’t about to take any questions on it. Gale watches the flex of his jaw as he talks, the fine hairs on his arm hyperaware of the scrape of nylon against his skin.
The first knot tightens around Gale's wrist. He exhales slowly. Watches the way it digs in just slightly, skin bulging out on otherside, white and then refilling with blood as John releases it with a quick, easy tug.

Are you still writing the stalag fic where Gale forgets his name? I think about that snippet you shared often
i think about it a lot too....
right now i'm finishing final novel edits to send out so i'm not really working on any fic! who knows what i'll go back to when i'm done...the possibilities are endless....

I wish I’d studied English lit at uni … random but any books you can recommend on fictional text analysis? ❤️
i'm not entirely sure what you mean by fictional text analysis? eve sedgwick has an essay on paranoid reading and reparative reading which you can check out here. it's a little dense if you don't have a theory background, but essentially sedgwick says to let the text teach you and not impose your own bias
but tbh i didn't even read that essay until grad school. the majority of my "analysis" of literature came from being in the classroom and having good professors who encouraged discussion and asked great questions about the books we were reading. that's how i learned how to interact with texts and gained a lot of media literacy and i'm so grateful for it
barely holding back a rant about why the humanities are important for learning empathy anywayyyyy. sorry if this didn't answer your question, anon
