Mountain Painting & Misty River | Fast & Loose Watercolours with Big Brush
I don't think I'll ever get bored of painting mountains.  They remain the most dramatic of subjects and sit within many a frame.  I rewet this a couple of times as I sought to loosen it up. River Painting Using Daniel's Reference Photo
Daniel's photo reminded me of similar photos I've took myself in the past so I felt compelled to have a go at it.  It's a busy scene so I had to make a few decisions on what to leave out. Patrons can watch the complete painting demo at https://www.patreon.com/StevenCronin

Painting Reflections in Watercolour
I remember struggling as a beginner when I tried to paint water.  My problem was I would overthink it.  By keeping it simple the painting turns out so much better.  Though easier said than done, with practise, you too can paint water reflections without the fear and anxiety that often accompanies these type of scenes.  Have a go and then join me at https://www.patreon.com/StevenCronin to see the reference photo I used for this watercolour painting.

A few ideas for how to start painting more loosely
At https://www.patreon.com/posts/ask-me-... Martin asks "Hi Steven.  I still can’t move from painting a tight painting to loose paintings. Not sure if it’s a confidence issue with loose painting or I’m combining two techniques".

Easy way to paint rocks
Rocks on the beach can look incredibly complicated to paint but using this method it takes merely seconds.  Simply scrape with the corner of a plastic card.  The secret is to allow the paint to become half dry before starting.  Too soon and it will just fill back in.  Too late and the paint is too dry to remove.  Give it a try.  It only takes a little practise and you'll be painting rocks in no time!  Join me at https://www.patreon.com/StevenCronin

Painting is all about confidence and the large Ron Ranson hake brush will help you reduce the fussing over detail and allow you to concentrate on just the essential elements of the scene.  I know some of you get a headache worrying over the unnecessary details.  If you follow my lead you'll have so much more fun.  Learn to paint with freedom.  Best of luck and happy painting!
