honestly, being a vampire who is also a goth kid is the best possible cover
nobody’s gonna think the kid in all black, with an umbrella and sunglasses and a shirt that says ‘bite me’ is ACTUALLY a vampire, they’ll just think you’re a goth kid pretending to be a vampire

BnHA house sortings
This has been sitting in my drafts for too long, and I’m wayyy too invested in these kids. So here, have some word vomit and a wall of text. First, a disclaimer: I’m using the @sortinghatchats system that assigns a primary and a secondary house. Primaries are why you do things, and secondaries are how. More information here.
Probably manga spoilers, if you care about that sort of thing.
First off, Midoriya Izuku is a Hufflepuff Primary. There’s a difference between “heroes SAVE people” and “heroes save PEOPLE”, and Deku’s firmly on the latter end of the scale. He wants to help people, specifically. Doesn’t matter who - this is the kid who stands up to his admittedly terrifying (former) friend because someone’s being bullied, who wants to be a hero because All Might saves people with a smile, and that’s what he wants. Not because it’s the Right Thing to Do, but because people need saving and that’s what he’s all about. Ultimately, Deku wants to be a hero because that’s how you save people, and he really really really cares about people.
He’s also a Gryffindor Secondary. But wait, you say, what about the analytics and information collecting? Isn’t that Ravenclaw? Yeah. Yeah it is. But the thing is, when he’s pushed to the brink, Deku doesn’t fall back on the plans he’s made - he charges at things like any reckless Gryffindor. Take the Shouto fight, for example. Deku straight up throws everything to the wind (Wasn’t he going to win the tournament to declare himself to the world? Like All Might? Wasn’t he planning to win?) because screw the plan, screw everything, Shouto is hurting and he needs help, so Deku’s going to help, tournament be dammed. When pushed into a corner, Deku reaches for good old fashioned, Gryffindor charging. Back to the analytic tendency, that seems more like a Ravenclaw Secondary model he developed to help cope with the whole Quirkless thing. If he can’t interact directly with heroism, then he’ll do it on the sidelines with a pen, a notebook, a fanblog. He soaks information like a sponge, yes, but when push comes to shove that all gets tossed aside in favor of running headlong into danger, because his body moved on its own.
Bakugou Katsuki is a Ravenclaw Primary. I flip flopped between this and Gryffindor Primary for a loooong while, but ultimately settled on Ravenclaw (his Gryffindor Secondary is incredibly loud). Kacchan’s a Ravenclaw that looks like the instinctive, driven lion because that’s how he’s developed his internal world. Kacchan’s world is one where the strong win - and he’s strong, isn’t he? He’s a hero because heroes win. This is how the world works. And every time he comes up against something that clashes with his world (Deku, basically), his system sends up errors. It’s not working, there’s too much doubt, but goddammit these are his guns and he’s sticking to them. A healthy Ravenclaw Primary would take a step back and reconsider, would test their data and edit their world. Kacchan does not do this. Blame the inferiority complex if you want, but Kacchan is really not on board with the ‘contradictions’. So he lashes out. Almost all of his super rage moments are because something is clashing with his world, and he’s refusing to edit it. Todoroki refusing to go all out means he thinks Kacchan is weaker than Deku, which is Not True, he is Greatly Upset and betrayed by this blatant disregard of his internal world, this win means nothing.
But he does. Ultimately, he does. The fight after the Provisional Hero Licence Exam, where he copes by, well, yelling FIGHT ME. That’s the culmination of all the nagging errors that finally built up enough to force a response: edit or Fall. Thankfully, Kacchan is able to adjust his world: if Deku is actually strong, like actually strong, and not some insect with no right to even think about looking down at him? Then he needs to adjust for that. At the end of the fight, when All Might steps in, it settles this whole Deku issue in his head. He is not wrong. Not completely right, but he is not wrong. The system is still True. And that’s the distinction, not that his internal world is Right, but that it’s True.
Gryffindor Secondary. This boy punches all his problems in the face. That’s it. Straightforward, brutal honesty, casually stomping on toes because what matters is what’s in his head, screw everyone else, he’s not going to compromise and play nice because he might hurt someone’s feelings. Like Deku, their shared Gryffindor Secondaries help them inspire. It’s canonically stated by Aizawa, whose judgement I’m inclined to believe, that both of them have a tendency to get their classmates to kick things up a notch. Kacchan for his unstoppable charge that drags you into his pace, and Deku making you want to match his unwavering faith and belief.
Todoroki Shouto about killed me to sort. His childhood trauma and the resulting repression and laser-focus into going against Endeavor, plus his resting bitch face reserved demeanor make him really goddamn hard to sort. Ultimately, I feel that he’s a Stripped Gryffindor Primary who got kicked back on the right path during the sportsfes. Shouto has a moral compass - we see this in his interactions with the police, the hotheaded “isn’t it a hero’s job to save people?!”, it’s just busted. Of course, we mostly have post-Deku data to go over, since before then it’s repressed to all hell. Yoarashi even brings up how much Shouto’s changed since the entrance exams, and I’m inclined to believe a guy who really wanted to be his friend and then got rekt by the Todoroki Glare. It’s not so much that he didn’t care, it’s just that he’s literally consumed by rage and resentment. Hell, he even admits it, in almost that exact phrasing. Shouto falls into the category of “i want to be a hero” that half the cast hits, but in flashbacks you can see the basis for smol Shouto’s motivations - heroics for heroics, because that is Good and Just and Right. Too bad he has an asshole dad. And somewhere along the line (not long after the scar/mom trauma, I assume) that goal got derailed by “do whatever it takes to spite dad”. The only thing driving him is his hatred; he doesn’t even remember why he wants to be a hero anymore, only that it was something Endeavor wants, and he’s going to do it on his own terms. Which is well and good but... take that away and what do you get? You get a Shouto who wants to be Good, to fight villains because they are Evil. When he crashes into Yoarashi’s (admittedly justified) resentment during the Provisional License arc, he’s driven to make amends. Shouto fucked up and, once it’s pointed out, his Gryffindor Primary is what pushes him to fix it.
His Secondary is even harder to read. Shouto doesn’t seem to have any preferences for how he does things, and most of his problems ends in a 1HKO. That said, I think it’s most likely for him to be a Slytherin Secondary. He recalibrates often, hitting problems from multiple angles. Brute force doesn’t work against Iida in the sportsfes? Switch to precision. Can’t single-handedly fight off Gang Orca? After he pulls his head out of his ass, he switches to cooperating with Yoarashi. On the other hand, I’d say Shouto’s someone who lives in the Slytherin Secondary’s neutral state. He’s just as blunt and brutally straightforward as Kacchan, but there’s never a sense of malice to it. Shouto stands there and blinks at people, thinks about cooperation, and makes his decision. I don’t think he’d ever be good at the Slythering Secondary’s rapid fire code switching, but the neutral state resonates best with how he’s reacting to the world.
Of course, all this can and probably will change once we get to see him coming out of his shell a bit more, but based on the information available, Gryffindor/Slytherin is my best guess.
And now for easier sortings. Uraraka Ochako is a Slytherin/Hufflepuff. She straight up admits that she’s doing hero work for her parents... and she doesn’t feel bad about it. A little ashamed that she doesn’t have as noble of an origin as, say, Deku, but... she loves her parents and wants to make their lives easier and that’s it. That’s what keeps her going. Ochako solves her problems by rolling up her sleeves and working at them. She does invest into 1-A quite a bit, socially, but the bulk of it is just that aura of unwavering tenacity (and cheer, god damn she’s adorable).
Iida Tenya is a Felt Primary (Gryffindor or Hufflepuff) and a Foundational Secondary (Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff). I’m tentatively tagging him as Gryffindor/Hufflepuff. You see protective instincts toward random strangers (”don’t harass that girl! are you trying to make her fail?”) and it’s pretty blatantly clear that rules and integrity matters to him, not to mention justice. It is Wrong for a hero to run, even though they’re horribly outmatched by a small army of villains and he’s literally the only one who can get help in time. Tenya doesn’t hesitate because he’s worried about his class, he hesitates because “it would be a disgrace” for him to flee. There is no honor in that, to him, and it takes the entire class yelling at him for him to, you know, get help. His rage toward Stain is rooted in a desire to find justice for Tensei.
He’s also kind of terrible in a pinch. Like Momo, Tenya is kind of shit at playing games when he doesn’t know the rules. He’s not flexible in his thinking, but he’s sturdy and reliable in a way that’s different from Momo’s Ravenclaw. Tenya doesn’t reach for plans that he’s been building since day one, he digs his heels in and goes, no, these are the rules and you will follow them.
Whatever else she is, Yaoyorozu Momo is a Ravenclaw Secondary. Honestly, she’s no good in a pinch. If she’s unprepared, everything goes to shit. But Momo gathers so much information this rarely happens. She can make snap judgements - maybe not as easily as Shouto - but if she has enough information she can easily call the shots. The bulk of her information gathering is academic, which makes sense because of her Quirk. She’s a classically academic Ravenclaw, level-headed and in control... most of the time. When she panics during the final exam, she runs back to Shouto because she’s blanking, because she doesn’t know what to do, because there’s so many variables and which action is the correct one?? She’s freezing up.
As for her primary... she’s either a Hufflepuff with a broad definition of “person”, which she expresses by being the patient older sister type to 1-A (study group leader Momo, anyone?), or a Ravenclaw who went, yes, this is exactly how things work! People are great! I should excel at everything! To be honest, she doesn’t have enough screen time for me to judge. I can comfortably rule out Slytherin, because there’s none of that distinctively Slytherin possessiveness, and she doesn’t seem to be a steadfast beacon of idealism either.
Yagi Toshinori is a Slytherin/Hufflepuff that models and performs Gryffindor. When All Might gets attached to people he gets attached hard. The reflexive “IT’S SHIMURA’S GRANDSON OH GOD I NEED TO SAVE HIM” isn’t because Shigaraki is a Person, or because saving him is the Right Thing to Do, it’s because it’s his mentor’s grandson. And that’s got Slytherin Primary written all over it. He’s latched onto Shimura’s beliefs (”a hero should always be smiling!”), and when his Slytherin Primary isn’t affected, he’s living in a Gryffindor Primary model. There are things that are Good and Just and Right, and as a hero he has the duty to help people. As for his Secondary, All Might is a pillar. Even though the Symbol of Peace (a noble/heroic Gryffindor performance if I’ve ever seen one, like wow) is dead, All Might still hasn’t shattered. UA still relies on him. Deku still relies on him. He is a hero and his figurative death the end of an age, but his power is in that he’s, well All Might. All Might who never loses, who always saves the day. All Might, who you can trust, rely on, who will always, always be there.

Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.
I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…

Battle Axe (Tabarzin)
Dated: 19th century; Qajar period (1779 -1925)
Culture: Persia (Iran)
Medium: iron, gold, silver
Measurements: overall length 82cm; blade length 21.5cm
The Tabar is a battle axe which might display several different shapes of head. It might also occasionally conceal a small dagger inside the handle. Originally created as a weapon, it would become symbolic of power and authority when related to religion.
This piece is completely manufactured in iron with the head taking the shape of a crescent. It displays a large cartouche decorated with floral motifs, engraved and inlaid in gold. In the flaming counter-blade it displays a Makara, an animal of Hindu mythology similar to a crocodile. The axe features a pyramid-shaped tip.
