Nothing New also hits me so hard because like, Taylor was so adamant about making it seem like she didn't ever drink very much / etc etc back then - so her admitting, "I've had a little too much to drink tonight" in the lyrics just makes it feel like an even deeper, darker secret and that fact makes it all hit so much harder. like this song genuinely came from the deepest pit of her soul - probably was never even a thought it might be on the album because it said too much, was too raw, too revealing - genuinely like a quiet cry in the middle of the saddest, loneliest night that no one would ever hear. And it is genuinely one of the saddest things she's ever written
