I came across this article in Martha Stewart magazine Dec2020 edition. The article highlights the mental and well-being benefits for crafting and making things by hand.
I started hand embroidery with ‘just because’. Just because I like it, just because I enjoy doing it, and just because I truly enjoy the feeling of thread and needle against my fingers. I also enjoy the freedom it gives me, because I can make things the way I want it to be, with my own hands.
I’m thrilled to find that there are more research out there to highlight how making things by hand helps to boost our mental and emotional well being. I personally experience what was mentioned in the article; doing hand embroidery helps me to tune out my negative thoughts, worries and anxiety. It certainly helps me go through the difficult days during this #stayathome period.
More and more reasons to keep making things, to keep doing hand embroidery.

The project I’ll be making is an ABC Wall Hanging. It’s the latest embroidery daily practice series by LarkRising embroidery at Creativebug. ⠀ ⠀ What I like about this project is the minimalistic design that comes with two colour options to choose from - copper/terracotta and blue green/olive. I really like them both and to be honest it was difficult for me to pick one that I want to stitch with. ⠀ ⠀ Why choose when I can incorporate both colour options into my project? I’ll be stitching with copper/terracotta threads over a muted green background. Hopefully it turns out as well as I expected. ⠀

Hope all of us have good things happening in the upcoming 2021, after a difficult year of 2020. Happy new year all! 🍾🎊 ⠀ Original pattern by #dmcfreepatterns , I customised the pattern with my own choice of colour and stitch it with punch needle.
