from the newspaper

The princess really let it rip. I was able to experience this for myself on Sunday night - on my balcony opposite Vaduz Castle. The band got the wedding guests in the rose garden going until around 1 am. The performance of the song "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys was particularly world-class. Afterwards, the party continued with DJ until the early hours of the morning. Don't worry, Marie Caroline, I didn't mind the noise. I like it. Otherwise I wouldn't live in the Big Apple of Liechtenstein. And your party sounded really good. I was already toying with the idea of joining you spontaneously. But then I had to think back to the 2015 Princely Festival. Back then, you were waiting in the queue for our after-show party in the empty Hotel Real. We were completely sold out. You didn't have a ticket. And I didn't make an exception. Ten years later, it was me standing there without a ticket. In the middle of the night. Everything takes its revenge at some point.

Translation (Vaterland from Today)

Celebrations not for the nobility, but for the people
Three heads of state have married in Vaduz so far. A look back at the princely celebrations in 1943, 1967 and 1993.
1943: The first wedding of a prince in the country
"Dressed in dazzling white, the princess stood out from the world around her like a fairytale princess in a magical land," reported the Volksblatt newspaper at the time. The "Vaterland" wrote of a "profound" act of mourning: "Memorable was the moment when His Serene Highness the Prince and his princely bride said their resounding 'yes' to the bishop's question, after having previously requested their consent with a reverent and humble bow to their parents." The wedding was of such great interest that it was recorded and broadcast by Radio Zurich.
The historic aspect of this occasion: for the first time, a reigning prince celebrated his wedding in his own country, in the midst of his people. It was therefore "one of the most joyous events in living memory" not only for the Princely House, but also for the people in particular, according to the "Vaterland". The newspaper compared the significance of the wedding to the royal homage in 1939, when the people of Liechtenstein swore allegiance to the new Prince. On the evening before, a celebration with countless guests took place on the town hall square in Vaduz, including speeches, a torchlight procession of scouts through the town and fireworks.
The President of the State Parliament, Pastor Anton Frommelt, presented the bride with a jewellery box on behalf of the people and the "children of the state". In his speech he said:
The young Princess is being married to the Prince and thus also to the people of Liechtenstein. We only ask our young Princess to be a kind mother to us.
1967: Partying until sunrise
There was also great interest 24 years later when their first son, Hans-Adam II, tied the knot on 30 July 1967. Thousands of people came to Vaduz to witness the spectacle; one carriage after another lined up in the town centre. The then Hereditary Prince and his bride Marie even gave a short interview to SRF in advance about the wedding preparations, which was broadcast in the Eurovision programme. Over 200 journalists from all over the world travelled to the event, many of them typing directly into their typewriters during the ceremony with a view of the television broadcast. To get in the mood for the event of the year, many events were organised during the wedding week, including a bridal soirée and press evenings. An unmissable balloon with a volume of 950 cubic metres was created especially for the wedding.
On the eve of the wedding, a big party was held in Vaduz, where some people searched in vain for a place to sit. However, it only really got going a day later, after the new bride and groom had exchanged rings. The population celebrated on the market square in Vaduz, as is customary on national holidays - with a music corps, torchlight procession, bonfire, the princely crown on Vaduz Castle and fireworks. After this, the two princely houses and their distinguished wedding guests mingled with the celebrating crowd. In addition to the bridal couple, Queen Annemarie of Greece received special applause wherever she appeared. The "Vaterland" drew attention to this:
There was no end to the joyful frenzy and it was only when the sun once again appeared behind the Dreischwesternkette that people realised it was time to go home.
1993: Newspaper only reported on the wedding
The "Vaterland" dedicated the entire issue to Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie after their wedding on 3 June 1993. Other reports from home and abroad were deliberately postponed, as the editors emphasised. In terms of procedure, much was similar to the previous princely weddings in Vaduz; the ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Wolfgang Haas. Numerous people waited outside the cathedral to catch a glimpse of the bride and groom and the celebrities as they left. According to this newspaper, the entire national police force as well as some colleagues from neighbouring Switzerland were deployed to ensure security.
Prince Franz-Josef II and Princess Gina, Prince Hans-Adam II and Princess Marie and Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie all have something in common: after the wedding, they came out of the cathedral and walked down the beautifully decorated wooden staircase, which was specially made for this unique moment, in front of numerous Liechtenstein residents. Princess Marie Caroline, the daughter of the hereditary prince and princess, and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer will continue this tradition tomorrow. Even if there will be no public party after their wedding, but a "private" celebration.
