FAQs

1. Why was this blog created?

Within the Miss-Fisher’s-Friends community, misswhateveryouwant had the idea of writing a fic together. This inspired us to create a community of writers and beta-readers to collaborate in as many fandom projects as we want.

2. Do you post what you write somewhere?

Yes, we will post everything here and in a AO3 collection.

3. Do you meet somewhere to talk about this stuff?

Yes, we have a Discord Server. If you want to join it you require an invitation. It’s a private server.

4. What tool do you use for writing?

We use Ellipsus due to privacy concerns.

5. Is this community open to everyone?

Yes, it’s open to anyone.

6. What roles can people chose in order to contribute to the writing projects?

Writer: You want to participate in collaborative writing.

Alpha-reader: You want to help the writers either with ideas, chatting to help us solve roadblocks, or simply cheering us.

Beta-reader: You want to help the writers with the editing process, including grammar and spelling issues (not all writers are native English speakers).

7. What ratings or genres are allowed?

All of them.

Much like AO3, we wish to encourage writers to write whatever they want. However, we do have a few rules about how to manage it.

We classify the writing according to ratings (G, T, M and E).

Everything pertaining to fics with ratings G to M will go in “The Kitchen” or “The Parlour” channels of our server.

Everything pertaining to fics with ratings M or E will go in “The Boudoir” section.

Writers will be the ones that chose the rating of their story.

As you can see, M rating could go in both areas. Writers will also chose by themselves where their fic should go.

Teams of writers have the responsibility of tailoring their writing to the likes/dislikes of the team. This means that the team will have to reach an agreement about what to write, what rating to use, what warnings/tags will be needed, etc.

Alpha-readers and beta-readers will be warned of ratings and general topic of the fic to allow them the freedom to help with projects that make them comfortable.

8. How would a team of writers chose what to write?

Well, ideally, they would chat in the server and chose the parameters they want for their fic. Then, simply get to work.

If they need help, we will set surveys or questionnaires to help them chose the genre, rating, topics, etc. Or provide them with prompts, if they need them.

9. What if I already have an idea and want to write that, but need help?

Then, we’d do it the other way around, you will explain the idea and ask for volunteers to help you. We will help you find them, whatever is other writers to write with you or alpha-readers to help you solve some plot holes in your story or beta-readers.

The entire point of the community is to find support in each other, work as a team, and enjoy writing together. And this can come in many forms.

St. Kilda – Our Discord Server

First of all, let me tell you that it is a private server, so we will send you an invite so you can join us.

The invite will take you to the welcome area where Mr. Butler will welcome you with a nice little message like this:

At this point you will only see a few channels and you will have to go to #rules-of-the-house to read our rules and react to them to obtain access to the rest of the server.

The rules look like this:

Once you react to them, you will become a red-ragger and be given access to most of the server.

Following Mr. Butler’s directions, you should then go to #roles where Miss Williams will assign you your roles according to your choices and giving you access to the NSFW area (if you want it).

Here is where you will get to chose your pronouns, roles in the community, time zones, etc.

Once you’ve done that, you should go to #introductions where you have a little questionnaire to introduce yourself to the rest of the server.

Now, that that’s done, let me show you our sidebar:

All channels have a short explanation about what they are in them, but if you want for information, you can go to #channel-guide to get a more detailed idea.

Collaborative Fic 1 - Rules

This rules/guidelines that will be used to create this first fic were extracted from the inscription form that you filled out a while ago.

No smut. We keep it M rating tops as we have a minor in the group. If the adults want to write smut/E we have a NSFW section in discord to do so and we can create another fic for that. Remember: we can have as many projects as we want.

As you can see that’s 16,7% “yes” and 83,4% “yes, but I will also be happy with other things”.

4. What supporting characters would you like to include?

Most of us list: Mac, Aunt P, Dot, Mr Butler, Cec and Bert, Hugh, Jane, Rosie, Ruth. Basically, the main secondary characters of the show.

Though, someone mentioned not being good at writing Rosie.

5. What season do you want the story to be in?

I think it’s safe to say that the 3 seasons of the show are more popular than the movie or post-movie.

6. A list of what people DON’T want to write.

Here I’m listing everything as I think we should avoid all this topics. As some stuff is redundant I’ve made a comprehensive list.

Character death.

noncon/rape/sexual abuse.

Omegaverse

mpreg or pregnancy.

Sex/smut including specific/detailed kinks, foot fetishes, food and sex put together, fisting

Angst without happy ending.

Cec and Bert separated. They can have conflicts but not break up their friendship.

Locations out of Australia (unless is flashbacks).

Overly dominant Phryne or Jack.

Cheating.

Last response claims that a case fic would be ok as long as someone else comes up with the plot. I suggest that, if we write a case fic, the plot is decided together in the chat.

Murder on the tram/something to do with Melbourne Trams (I'm suprised this isn't an episode, the murderer could literally have thrown the victim in front of an incoming tram, easy)

Something at Flinders Street station? (surrounding it at present is a bunch of new buildings and the tap gates and stuff, that's why they couldn't really use it in the series, the station itself is the same as it would have been in Phryne's time)
