i have a tradition of redrawing my gates to infinity duo every two years at the start of the year, so here we are again! im so happy with how these turned out; two years is. i mean it is a long time even if it doesn't feel like it.

Hello! Call me Guide, I'm the host of this potential tournament! Have you ever crafted a character or set of characters for the universe of the PMD games (or a universe based on it)? Have you ever wanted to see how they'd stack up against other characters and teams? Hopefully, this tourney will be your chance to find out!

This is my first time hosting a tournament, so advice with scheduling, bracketing, and submission guidelines would be extremely helpful! I hope to see you all soon!

ANYWAY since im on about gates again tonight im just gonna put some shit out there

over the years i've seen a lot of people saying munna = grovyle but evil and i get why but ive never agreed with that. i've also seen grovyle compared to hydreigon a lot since theyre both plot twist heroes and all.

but i think out of all the characters in gates, grovyle is closest to the partner. like....

- kinda naive at times and try to see the best in people/situations (grovyle getting kicked around by the snorunt + gates partner deciding to believe hero's impossible story)

- insisting that the world CAN be better than it is and being determined to give all they have to make sure it happens. (the dark future + post town's despair)

- keeps fighting despite being in terrible physical shape (everything grovyle does in special episode five + partner making it all the way to the bittercold while barely able to breathe)

- rallies another character to be brave even when their circumstances are bleak and uncertain (grovyle @ explorers partner + gates partner @ lilipup)

- stepping back from the hero's life despite their affection for them because they want to do what's best for the hero (grovyle going back to the future and entrusting hero's welfare to explorers partner + gates partner during the ending/epilogue)

- talking the main villain into flipping sides at the last second by making them question their philosophy and because they really do understand with what the villain is going through. (dusknoir saving grovyle from his own stupid trap and deciding changing the future IS worth dying for + munna saving hero and partner after they make her realize she DOES have something worth living for after all)

being a gates to infinity apologist is the most embarassing thing ever we're like "yes gates only lets you accept one mission at a time and yes the text speed is slow and yes they removed the personality quiz and yes your starter options are very limited but"

Obsessed with the characters who stay light hearted and joyous but who have stolen it from the darkness. There is blood under their fingernails — there is pain under their eyes — there is hurt in their timeline and they have felt every blow. Wild as fuck that not only did Gates to Infinity break and subvert the trend of “obvious evil-looking Pokemon is the villain” within the PMD series with Munna, it also held its cards close to is chest about her motivations, just revealing bits and bits of information about the whole situation with Kyurem and the Bittercold that she has some sorta connection to, only to drop the curtain about her after you battle her, making everything fall into place and reveal what an amazing thematic antagonist she is.

She isn’t even a villain throughout the story really, she mostly exist on the sidelines as a looming mystery until shortly before she’s revealed to be the villain, and it’s fitting in a way. As the story goes on you spend the game meeting more and more different Pokemon struggling with their situation in life, and she’s the last one.
