one of my favorite things about hannibal is that they went for it and did not hold back with will’s “villain arc” in season three. i mean just look at this transformation

it always feels like a massive let down when a narrative plays with the idea of letting the good guy go bad before inevitably reverting back to the status quo. let me see a bitch go crazy for once!! show me the character who’s been through hell and back finally snapping. the character who has only suffered as a result of doing the right thing choosing to be selfish for once. will going with hannibal in the end was wonderful for their love story of course, but i was equally thrilled to see will finally finding happiness, even if it was through morally irredeemable means

absolutely can't abide people who moan about the logical inconsistencies on hannibal like "that doesn't work...that's not legal... that's physically impossible blah blah blah" it's amazing how they think they're watching some high brow, intricate crime procedural and not this high camp gay horror rom com where the main villain is an ostentatious european whose name literally rhymes with cannibal and grew up in a great big dracula castle

okay, imagine the show if you’re hannibal lecter.

you’ve engineered your life perfectly. you enjoy everything it has to offer immensely and you’re so very careful. if you’re lonely it’s nothing more than background noise you’ve always heard. and you meet this man and he’s fascinating, and you want to take him apart and see what makes him tick, and events fall in place that you can, so you do. 

and then there’s a moment when you think he’s dead and you’re confronted with the realization that you don’t want him to be, beyond the fact that you’re not done with him. 

and he’s falling apart and you’re very careful but he’s starting to see you anyway, and it’s exhilarating and too soon and instead of killing him, which would be safer, you lock him away where he’s no longer falling apart and can’t get to you. but that loneliness is loud now without him, so you visit him. and he hates you but it’s more amusing than anything right up until he sends a man to kill you, and he very nearly succeeds. 

you have nightmares now. you never did before.

but you’re still lonely and you care about him so you get him out, and he still hates you but he’s there, and he's seeing you and it’s incredible and terrifying and your perfect life is crumbling around you. it’s partly his fault but you love him and you think you could make a new life with him. you’ve been building a family and you want it so bad and he seems to want it too. 

but he's betraying you. he’s been betraying you for a long time, and you give him the chance to take it back and just leave tonight and he doesn’t take it. but you still can’t kill him, so you tear everything apart and run. 

and you look at what he’s done to you and what love has done to you, and you love him still. you’re lonely again, and nothing is interesting and you’re no longer so very careful. and you miss him so you send him a message and he gets it, and he’s there and he forgives you and he sits there looking at you like he loves you too. 

except he doesn’t forgive you, and you know what you have to do. but you drag your feet and take care of him and then you’re both kidnapped before you can put an end to it all. you’re tortured and he’s beautiful and you save him, and he never wants to see you again. but you need him to see you, and love has ruined you, and you kneel in the snow and get locked away. 

and he doesn’t visit you, not once, until he has to. 

everyone knows what you are now and no wants to touch the monster and it’s so nice being seen. even like this. you tear at him again and relish the scars he’s been collecting from you, but he gets to walk away and you can’t. you want to touch him and you can’t. he’s trying to use you again and you let him because you miss him. and he's going to leave you again and you’re tired of his indifference and your options are limited, so you make him hate you again. 

he wants you dead and he wants to use you as bait and you agree because you love him terribly and he looks so beautiful when he’s cruel. you’re in prison: what do you have left to lose? 

when you escape he comes with you, and he can’t decide what he wants but he’s there. you know what’s going to happen so you take the bullet and he can’t stand to watch you die. and you slay the dragon together and it’s beautiful. and he loves you, and he loves you, and he can’t stand it. and you love him, so you don’t fight it when he pulls you both over the edge.
