personally i don’t like to define stone top/bottom as only giving or only receiving “sexual pleasure” since that makes it sound like only the bottom feels any kind of pleasure when having sex, and is more likely to be interpreted to be one-sided or selfish by non-stone people. instead i prefer to define it more based on the specific sex acts one is or isn’t ok with giving or receiving.

at its most basic definition, a stone bottom is one who does not penetrate their partner, while a stone top does not receive penetration. boundaries around other sex acts, such as oral or chest stimulation, often also follow this only giving (top) vs. only receiving (bottom) pattern but are sometimes more flexible depending on the individual.

it’s important to note that a stone top receives sexual pleasure by performing sex acts to their partner, so it’s not a one way street for enjoying the sex. we both enjoy it very much and can be entirely satisfied during sex without pushing anyone’s boundaries.

the thing about stone identity is that it’s just a shortcut way to broadly communicate something about yourself to sexual partners. it has a base definition, but you’re always going to need to fill in the little details and explain the nuance that can’t be contained in a single word. it’s just a starting point, a place to open the conversation of sexual boundaries. no two stones look the same.

Bulldagger

Bulldagger - Most often used in a derogatory way to describe a masculine lesbian; most often used in African American communities.

Bulldagger: Bulldagger is pejorative slang for a very masculine lesbian, which often carries a more racialized meaning than its synonyms bulldyke, bulldiker, and diesel dyke. Bulldaggers are associated with physical strength, sexual prowess, emotional reserve, and butch chivalry.

These are two different definitions of this word, given by two different sources. The word bulldagger has its roots in 1920′s Harlem, specifically in the African-american blues community. This word was used to mean lesbian, but since gender was much less defined and separate from sexuality at this point, the word was also associated with individuals that we would consider “trans” from our modern perspective. 

From SDiane Adamz-bogus: “The Black Bulldagger is a link to our ancient and recent Black woman-loving past, and the predecessor of today’s Black lesbian. She is a character, an idea, a woman who loved women but was heavily male-identified more often than not. She was the unattractive girl, the tomboyish teen, the independent woman, or any Black sister who repulsed the advances of men.”

"The tradition of house parties had a significant impact on leadership in the Black lesbian community.
