Subodai’s Prologue
Subodai had never suffered such indignity. Losing his family and his destiny to petty squabbles among horsekind was one thing. Being kicked down from khan-to-be to petty worker for the clans that had decimated his true kin was another. But this?! Being sold to soulless, metal men!?
He glared at the Armada soldiers, talking with Khidir, the khan that currently held Subodai’s life and pride in his hands. He wanted nothing more than to bash these fucks in the face, but alas he couldn’t. He was a brilliant warrior for someone his age, quick and ruthless, but he was barely an adult, and he was unarmed, and he’d be up against Khidir and these Armada men, all at once. He’d surely die. And he didn’t come so far and endure so much only to let himself die now!
No, it’s best to bide his time for now. The hunger for vengeance burned in his heart, but self preservation stiffened him like the cold winds of Subata, keeping him from making any impulsive choices. He was prodded onto the Armada ship by halberds that pierced through his patchy leather wear. His ears laid flat on his head. He gave Khidir one last glare, and made one final rude gesture at the khan before being pulled down into the ship’s hold.
