Slavery has never been an African thing. Where there are people, there is conflict, and conflict leads to captivity. But captivity is not synonymous of slavery. Africans had war captives, servants, people who could be mistook for slaves. Their conditions were different from what people think about when they think slavery. They were still human beings and were treated like human beings. They could become members of the society and even climb the ladder of society if their behavior changed and if they had the skills to do so. Nothing compared to what most people think about. And the economy was not based on slavery. They did not need slaves for work or any things like that. Slavery became a thing in Africa when foreign people invaded the continent. They brought their practices to that continent. It is important to understand that because many people still believe that Africans enslaved a lot of people in order to build their temples and wonders. That’s not true. It goes against all the rules of Ma'at that the African people followed.
