Dreamed of you again last night. You wanted me to stay. When I asked, you said yes with those kind all-seeing dark eyes cast down, your head on my shoulder. I pulled you closer and we rested.

the flash of your eyes
and the glances around corners
easy smiles
to communicate so much
with just a look

Listened to the freeway come alive again
The 6am train a few blocks away
Little, wild green cockatoos screeching together high in the sky, and the always first, ever alerting, bluejayy
Haven’t slept because I know that’s when the real scary part will start and now my body aches so badly I can’t sit still.

too hard on myself
heart on my sleeve
go cry about it why don’t you
I will
fix your face
don’t be sorry
be better

It’s already late somehow again
Keep seeing light waving in the trees
Like the sun peaking through water
Other times it’s an animated shadow
As if cast with a human hand and a desk lamp
It’s never really there though
Just my imagination

there’s a spectacular craving for danger and broken things that enchant me relentlessly
you staring at me while I’m in the rain bussing a table across the patio was wild. the smirk.
then I’m on your bike and you’re leading me by hand through the crowd and everyone is watching. we talked over a beer outside, I heard everything and nothing you said.
we were tropical birds preening for the other’s attention and I was absolutely living for it. then I’m flying through euphoria again and you’re helping me out of your helmet.
it surprised me when your shoulders sagged after I said I should be scared of you. danger will always be near you but I’ve never been afraid.
moments before dawn in misting rain your nearness was all I wanted but there was a palpable, broken vulnerability between us and I held that close instead.

I was in trouble tonight
No one near enough to help would call me back
They still haven’t
It’s 6:02 am now

Another sunrise crept up on me
She’s kinda pink, but also the color of tired bruises
Did you finally get some sleep?
Your eyes look dark…
How are you
It gets better
I promise
Death is inevitable
Are you okay
I’m sorry has felt the worst

If you really wanna put me through my paces
I’ll take the bait almost every time but I exist only between dusk and dawn- blue and gray
See you around

I’ve always understood the lessons I’ve learned. Whether I accept is different because I will not let anyone or any experience diminish my own.
Gotta stay my course.
I’m the only one standing in my truth after all.
Deal with it.
