the reason i can't make friends my own age:
i go to work, i see an article about the history of the printing press, i read it, and i say to my coworkers, "hey did you know that the printing press was actually invented in china?"
"the what?"
"the printing press. yknow like gutenberg."
"who?"
"he made the first printed bibles."
"oh okay."
and then i go home, i come in the door and i say to my mother in the kitchen "hey did you know that the printing press was actually invented in china?"
"you mean before gutenberg?"
"YES! and korea had it too in the goryeo dynasty!"
"oh so a long time before 1440. but he gets all the credit? hm."
"EXACTLY."
#i just assume everyone knows everything all the time because my mom knows everything all the time#like of course she knows when the goryeo dynasty ended off the top of her head and when the printing press was 'invented' shes my MOM

Spend time reading books you actually want to read instead of what someone online is recommending to you. Use products that actually compliment you instead of buying something just because it’s trending. Decorate your room with the colors you like instead of what’s popular on Pinterest. Do, be, dress, act, listen, watch, and live out who you actually are underneath all of the consumption. You don’t want to look back on your life and realize you were just trying to fit in the whole time. Figure out what you actually like and enjoy it.

I used to think communication was the key until I realized, comprehension is. You can communicate all you want with someone but if they don't understand you, it's silent chaos.

work email phrases that make me want to blow my brains out (nonexhaustive):
"friendly reminder"
"going forward"
"jumping off of that"
"teamwork makes the dream work"
"we're a family here"
"housekeeping"
"rockstar"
#also if your acknowledge in the body of your email that the subject being discussed is nitpicking i'm deleting that shit immediately#so you admit you're wasting my time over stupid bullshit? k cool glad youre aware

don't let your priorities get out of whack. don't go out and buy luxury items or a fancy new car if you have other things to do like make sure your health is right (regular checkups, full panel bloodwork, the dentist, etc.), getting your dream body, paying off high interest debt, working on your career and education, and investing aggressively (especially if you're in your 20s, this is the best decade for compound growth). it's very tempting to buy things for instant gratification (speaking from personal experience!) but the joy you feel doesn't last long. If I could do it again, I would use big ticket items like bags, nice clothes, silk scarves, huge extravagant trips, cars, jewelry, etc. as a reward for when I hit other milestones, such as graduating college, getting a job that skyrockets your income, hitting a certain number in investment accounts or business profits, hitting your goal weight, etc. and trust me, you will value it a lot more when you have put in the work to set yourself up for success.

Doing “the work” is needed for your wellbeing. Beware of laziness disguised as self-care, because you are doing a disservice to yourself.
