          Stiles had volunteered to work by the fun house, which he enjoyed, seeing families of different generations, mostly a bunch of kids participating in the activity. He was somewhat amused to see the little kids ecstatic as they held their parents’ hand, just when they were entering the fun house, up until the end, when the kids would be throwing tantrums because they didn’t want to leave yet. Stiles would encourage these families to stay longer, but some of these parents actually had other things to get to, which was upsetting, but still the reality of it. His hazel eyes fell onto a familiar face, remembering how they have just participated a few moments ago and was surprised to see them exiting a bit too early. “ I didn’t expect you to be out so soon. Did you have fun at least ?? “ He questioned the other, just as he had returned from accommodating a few more guests.

Xavier nodded politely because he’d definitely had a great time and actually planned to head back inside. “Yeah, just got a bit too chaotic in there. Don’t want to get a headache and have to check out early, you know? Besides, got all the time in the world,” he responded in between glances at all of the goings on around the festival, familiarity seeping into his bones. It felt like forever since he’d been here for one of them, even if it was only just a few years. “But I’m definitely thinking about diving in for another go around. How about you? Having a good time so far?”

catalina: When you're being nominated for a Tony Award for writing the next great contemporary play you better invite me to the ceremony

catalina: Better yet: cast me as the main character so we're both nominated

xavier: I most definitely will be sure to remember both of those. Fingers crossed that comes one day, it would be pretty fantastic.

xavier: Now I just need to get over my constantly reoccurring fear of submitting scripts.

Alaska: Riley just told me I was the worst mommy in the world and began to threw a fit in target because I wouldn't buy her this knife set

Alaska: She's four I'm not buying her knives even if they are colorful

Xavier: The only word that comes to my mind is yikes.

Xavier: I mean, you definitely made the right call in saying no, but it must have sucked to hear that. Even if it was temporary.

Xavier: I suppose the appropriate thing to say is that kids will be kids and that the young ones especially are attracted to colorful/shiny things.

“it kind of comes hand in hand — anxiety hits and my heart starts beating too fast. my heart starts beating too fast and my anxiety sets in. it’s a pain. literally, it hurts. but it’s been my life since i was born, so i’ve learned to deal with it.”

Words honestly failed Xavier for the first time in a long while and he couldn’t imagine what his newfound companion went through. “Feel terrible for you, that just doesn’t sound fair, having to get used to it. I know that life isn’t fair the majority of the time, but still...,” the male trailed off, mind racing a mile a minute.

with a soft smile resting on his lips, he was actually really glad to see Xavier. “ wow, uh you know i could always take a look at your printer for you, before you low it up of course.” matty couldn’t help but chuckle as he shook his head, he glanced towards the car, letting out a sigh. he had to get to work, but definitely wanted to catch up.

“It’s alright, I’ve got a cousin that I can always contact as well as plenty of YouTube tutorials at my disposal. Thank you though,” Xavier politely answered before his gaze drifted to his car as well. “But before diving into the long story short of what brought me here today, how’ve things been going with you? If you don’t mind me asking, of course.”

“ a hidden trick ? ” she questioned with an eyebrow raised. “ both ? no, no. i mean, i could,” she couldn’t, “ but… it’s not wise to just spend all this money, you know ? what if a better dress comes along ? i need to keep my options open, you know ? ”

“Yep and it’s all based on your reaction to the result of the coin toss, however that is the only thing I can say without spoiling the trick. But I can understand wanting to be cautious as well as saving money, that whole deal. Anyway, on with the coin toss,” Xavier answered.

“the way i saw it is, if they had the wrong answer, then the entire class was going to have the wrong answer and they’d be marked wrong for it. and that’s not right. the principal used to joke that i taught the teachers more than they taught me,” she said with a small laugh. “yeah… my anxiety gets really bad when my heart gives me problems.”

“I get that and certainly sounds that way, joke or not,” Xavier responded before the smile fell slightly. He had to bite back a ‘bloody hell’ because there were innocent ears present, so the male just took a deep breath instead. “I’ve gotta say, I feel terrible that your heart and anxiety give you so much trouble. But, if it’s any help to have another person in your corner, you’ve got a friend in me.”

“my anxiety has kind of gotten better as i’ve gotten older, but it still gets pretty bad,” she said. “i wish i’d been able to speak in front of people other than just correcting my teachers about an answer they got wrong. i guess it depends on the situation.”

“Mine too,” Xavier simply agreed as he put away his phone, yet continued to listen all the while. “I honestly don’t think I could have corrected a teacher in front of other classmates, so I’ve got to give you props for that. But yeah, it definitely depends on the situation at hand, whether anxiety decides to lie low or pop out of nowhere for a surprise visit.”

“ my gut tells me the red can either go very wrong or very right. i mean, it looks good, but depending on the occasion i’ll wound up looking like a tomato ! yeah, give me that coin. ”she concluded with a small laugh, leaving the dresses in a nearby chair and taking the quarter from his hand.

Xavier nodded along as he listened prior to handing the quarter over. “Fun fact: there’s actually a hidden trick underneath this coin toss. But first things first, let’s figure which dress wins. Although if you want my unbelievably unhelpful opinion, my suggestion is to get both if you’re able to. After all, never know when you might need one or the other.”

“ should i go with the red or the black ? ” she asked the other as she walked out of the store’s dressing room holding one dress in each hand. “ i know, i know, you can’t go wrong with the little black dress, but it’s what they say, the universe invented the color red solely for latinas. ”

“If you want my honest opinion, I say you should go with your gut. Not the most helpful advice, I know, but it just might work in the long run,” Xavier chimed in. Then, an idea popped up and he held up a hand to figuratively halt the process. After a few moments of rummaging in his wallet, the playwright removed a quarter. “If that doesn’t work, we can go with an oldie, but goodie selection method. Heads will be red, tails will be black.”

“i have a few things from him that mean an awful lot. but the car… i have memories in that car. a lot of memories. not even just with him, but with my sister, with my nonna, with my… friends.” you don’t have friends, she thought. “i was shy in general — but when it came to the classroom it was different. i mean, i couldn’t give oral reports in front of the class, i always had to do those one-on-one with a teacher because my anxiety was so bad, but i got over that in college.”

Xavier nodded as he listened because he could certainly identify with that. Yes, his own car had been purchased brand new, yet it still held plenty of important memories. “I can see where you’re coming from with memories and sorry to hear that about high anxiety. I had an opposite experience, believe that or not. A teacher once said that I came alive during oral reports, but that kind of screeched to a halt in college. It was just all of those people, being judgmental on a whole new level,” the playwright responded.

Xavier chuckled slightly as Paige’s voice grabbed his attention, above the music and all of the other voices in the room. That’s the way it tended to be with his loved ones, because even if took awhile at times, the playwright could recognize their voices in large crowds. “They’ve certainly done a great job!” he agreed as his gaze drifted around the room before bouncing back to his twin. “Having fun there?”
