Inspiration
1. Dave Mckean
Mixed media
The atmospheric effect
2. The sadistic magician Jim Mahfood
Jim Mahfood’s professional career has spanned across the fields of comic books, illustration, animation, advertising art, murals, gallery shows, body painting, and live art in bars and nightclubs. This site features the absolute best of his diverse work, from mixed media, illustration work, to murals, drawings and designs, photographs of painted girls, and much, much more. Mahfood’s style, the neo-psychedelic Visual Funk, is his signature combination of various influences that Jim’s turned into a recognizable brand, garnering a loyal following across the globe.
3. Taxiarchis Mermiris
Taxiarchis’ work provides caustic social criticism striking humorous chords, while simultaneously creating sinister and ominous undertones.
Fears and vices, derived from the perplex irrationality of human nature are exploited and exposed. Most of the messages are implicit, though the work itself is quite audacious and provocative.
Ιn most of his work, he benefits from the absolute freedom of stability offered by ink, in order to act instinctively, to communicate his thoughts directly and to create complex compositions seamlessly. He follows the same philosophy in color, which allows him to experiment more, but always maintaining his characteristic identity.
One therefore distinguishes between techniques, which might be different in terms of the creative process, but are otherwise interrelated, evolving through composition, subject matter, technique and aesthetics.
4. Tim Burton
Power through simplicity of lines. Contrast of theme and colours or lines
5. Eric Lacombe
Eric Lacombe (born 1968 in Lyon, France) is a graphic designer, digital artist and self-taught painter whose work is focused on melancholy intended as a negative and yet unavoidable feeling that is often accompanied by fear, anxiety and sadness. Eric’s work has been conceived to investigate the most recondite corners of the human mind, populated by depictions and transfigurations of the human body in the context of a plain, unadorned metaphysical scenery. Eric’s works are characterized by a well-thought-out juxtaposition of figurative elements and expressionistic brushstrokes. Lacombe meticulously deconstructs the subjects of his compositions to highlight their three-dimensional qualities and invite the viewers to come up with their own interpretation of the work. He uses acrylics, paper, oil, pens, paper mixed up with glue and acrylic, and various other techniques and materials.

If Tim Burton had designed pokemon
So, the idea of re-creating something already existing in our own way really fascinates me. You can take the feeling and personality of a character and twist them in your own personal style. Or you can completely alter and character’ s persona and keep the shape and the general design.
The example of Hat Boy who, inspired by Tim Burton’ s designs, created pretty much all of the first generation of pokemons is one of the most famous and interesting for me.
So here we can see one example of keeping the general shape and characteristic of that specific pokemon while completely changing the mood of it. The antithesis here is based on the fact that Butterfree is supposed to be one of the most cute and innocent pokemons and the artist really managed to re-create it in a twisting and creepy way.

This is one of my personal favorites since I really love the personality of the specific pokemon, Pidgey.
