eddie's the type to get jealous of a cat. steve adopts a ratty little stray and and eddie immediately hates it because it's stealing all of steve's cuddles. eddie will hear steve babytalking and look up thinking it's for him, only to see his bf sweet-talking another man (cat). when steve is gone, eddie and the cat both get lonely so they end up in the same room. they start out on opposite ends of the room, then slowly inch closer and closer until eventually steve comes home to find his bf passed out on the couch with a cat on his chest. (also, steve only adopted the cat bc he saw its messy fur and scarred little ears from living on the streets and it reminded him of eddie)

eddie who's never been in a relationship before, who has the pressure of being steve's first Gay Boyfriend, who is competing with all the prettiest girls in hawkins that steve has dated before. eddie who's constantly overthinking. eddie who's aware of steve's insecurities, who can see how badly steve wants to be loved, who can see that steve will happily accept scraps even though he deserves the world. eddie who's doing everything he can to show how much he loves steve, but it still doesn't seem like enough.

and steve who's blissfully unaware of all of it. steve who's doodling "mr steve munson" with hearts and wedding rings. steve who finally feels completely safe and secure and happy in a relationship.

steddie au where eddie thinks they're just hooking up because steve never treats him like all his previous girlfriends, but steve thinks they're dating and the relationship is only different because it's Gay. he's just trying to follow eddie's lead without making a fool of himself (he keeps buying gifts and flowers then shoving them into the back of his closet because he doesn't want eddie to think he's "treating him like a girl")
