For the #asplashifsummer2025
Here's my fic
(apologies if my writing appears unpolished in advance. My creative writing has gone rusty since I haven't written anything like this for quite some time)
Day 1 - Bonfire confession
*Ama smiled brightly as she prepared the last details of the picnic basket for the bonfire night she and her cousin Elise were to host along with the Kaiba brothers.*
"Eli, we're leaving in 5 minutes, get your curvy proportional butt down here Asa-immediately!" *She shouted looking up towards the second floor of their apartment.*
"Coming, Cous! Don't get your crocheted skirt and undies in a bunch!" *Called out Elise. She added the last touch to her outfit for tonight and rushed down excited. If all went well tonight... She and her cousin Ama would change their relationship with a certain brunette by the name of Seto Kaiba. For months now, both have had something of a crush on him and have been holding back for just as long.*
"Ready cousin?" *Asked Elise, smiling nervously.*
"As I'll ever be" *Concurred Ama, a matching smile on her lips. With a slight lift, she picked up the picnic basket and led her cousin towards the car that would take them to the beach where the bonfire was to take place. They left, putting down the roof of their car, singing along to their favourite songs as they travelled with Ama behind the wheel. They arrived with time to spare. They got out and made their way towards the location taking in the sights.*
"It's perfect for the bonfire!" *Exclaimed Elise, eyes glinting with joy.*
"Glad you think so." *Both turned towards the source of the voice. Kaiba approached, wearing a stylish combination of a white t-shirt and light black jeans, a matching jacket on his shoulder. Mokuba, his little brother, walked beside him wearing a purple t-shirt and white shorts. He smiled upon seeing the two cousins and rushed to embrace them. They smiled softly and hugged him tightly, like he was their little brother.*
"Good to see you both." *They spoke, looking at them both with joy. The two Kaiba brothers and their bodyguards, the Isono brothers, greeted them back. Ama opened the trunk of her car so that they could pick up their picnic basket, making their companions smile.
Kaiba and the Isono brothers got to work setting up the bonfire wood. Ama and Elise offered to help but Kaiba refused.* "I can handle it. Help Mokuba instead to prepare the food."
*They nodded and got to work, helping the teen. They hummed softly as they worked, glancing from time to time to Kaiba without trying not to blush. He looked stunning, the muscles in his back and shoulders visible under his t-shirt as he hauled the wood stacks. Once the bonfire was burning brightly, the group got to work cooking. The first to be cooked was the meat and vegetable skewers, Ama and Elise taking turns carefully turning and seasoning them. Once the first two were done, they handed them to Kaiba and Mokuba.*
"Is it good?" *Asked Ama looking at the two brothers as she and Elise worked on the next ones.*
"Perfect!" *Exclaimed Mokuba, delight in his eyes, sauce dripping down his chin.*
"Quite good, thought I shouldn't be surprised..." *Remarked Kaiba, dabbing his mouth with a napkin.* "You two seem to do everything the way you do your work." *He glanced at his little brother and gently reminded him to do the same. Mokuba nodded and proceeded to pick up a napkin and wipe his mouth and chin.*
*Ama and Elise smiled brightly, hearts leaping with joy.* "Glad you enjoy them. Hope you've brought your appetites... Ama and I have prepared a feast!" *Spoke Elise, handing out the remaining skewers. With those words, the two cousins got to work cooking tacos, burritos, nachos, Quesadillas, chicken kabobs, potatoes, sausage and shrimp foil packets, corn on a cob, hot dogs, and hash browns. Then came camp fire cones, s'mores, apple crisps, banana boats, monkey bread, fruits, and pies. By the time the meal was over, the Kaiba brothers and their bodyguards were full to the point of bursting.*
"You two are amazing cooks! I'm full!" *Exclaimed Mokuba, rubbing his full stomach. Kaiba nodded,*
"Agreed, Mokuba. I think I've gained at least two pounds..."
*Ama and Elise smiled softly.* "You haven't, Kaiba." *Spoke Elise.* "And even if you did, you don't show it as you still look as fine as ever! Plus, you will doubtless turn them into fine muscles in no time. Your workout routine is as excellent as all you do." *Added Ama, both cousins looking at him with admiration.
*Kaiba looked away to hide his reaction to their words and gazes.* "Glad you noticed..."
*Once the food was eaten, the group settled down around the bonfire.* "So now that we're full... Any suggestions what to do?" *Asked Ama.*
*Kaiba thought of it...* "When's the last time you both played charades? With a twist?"
*Ama and Elise beamed, a glint of excitement in their eyes.* "What kind of twist?" *Asked Ama, voice full of anticipation and curiosity.*
*Kaiba smirked.* "One involving using shadow puppets and drawings in the sand but not writing letters, Asian characters or numbers. Are you in?"
*Ama and Elise beamed excitedly with Elise speaking up.* "More than game! You're on."
*Kaiba's smirk grew, phtalo blue eyes alight with tue thrill of a challenge. He leaned in and whispered something to his little brother Mokuba.*
*The teen grinned mischievously and got up. Using his hands he made an elephant shadow puppet.*
"Elephant?" *Asked Ama.*
*The boy nodded, then made a gesture towards his teeth.*
"Elephant, teeth... Something to do with elephant tusks?" *Asked Elise.*
*Mokuba gave a thumbs up. He drew something in the sand... Ama and Elise leaned forward to check it.*
"Is that... A country?" *Asked Ama,. lifting an eyebrow.*
*Mokuba gave a thumbs up. He gestured elephant, tooth and the drawn country.*
"Elephant, tusks, country..." *Elise's eyes lit up as a light bulb went off in her head.* "Are you referring to Cote d'Ivoire?"
*Mokuba beamed proudly and gave two thumbs up. Ama and Elise smiled softly. Ama and Elise looked at each other... Then both got up. They made two dragons using shadow puppets.*
"So two dragons ..." *Began Kaiba, watching with interest. Ama and Elise gave a thumbs up. They mimicked something falling from the sky.* "Rain? No... Snow?" *They gave a thumbs up. Ama mimicked one dragon turning human using a shadow puppet while Elise made snow in her hands and pointed towards it.*
"One dragon turns human... The other has something to do with it... Is that Kisara?" *They gave thumbs up. Ama stepped back letting Elise continue. She made a shadow puppet of the dragon expelling its breath attack...* "Is that... White lighting attack?" *Elise beamed excitedly at Kaiba's guess and gave a thumbs up. Kaiba smirked proudly.* "Excellent mimicry you two." *He praised, a rarity for him. The two cousins smiled brightly and thanked him. Thus, in fun and challenges, the evening turned into night.*
*The moon rose high in the sky. Kaiba got up to take a walk. Mokuba and the Isono brothers looked pointedly at them, with the teen tilting his head. Ama and Elise nodded and took a deep breath. The younger Kaiba brother got up with the bodyguards under the excuse of putting away everything. Ama and Elise got up and walked towards Kaiba.*
"May we have a word with you, Kaiba?" *Asked Ama as the beaver of the two cousins.*
*He looked at them curious.* "Of course."
*Ama and Elise looked at each other, then back at him.* "We were wondering if..." *Began Elise. Kaiba lifted an eyebrow.* "If..."
*The two cousins looked at each other once more... Then pulled him and kissed him. Kaiba, who seldom, if ever, was surprised, looked shocked. After a moment, his arms wrapped around them and he returned the kiss. After a moment, both cousins broke the kiss, slightly dazed and flushed.* "Whoa..."
*A strange look entered Kaiba's eyes.* "About time... If we kept dancing along this any longer... Mokuba would have locked us in the closet." *Ama and Elise looked at him shocked. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair.* "I have been meaning to kiss you both for months... But..." *They nodded in understanding. They couldn't just confess and kiss him in public not without it affecting KaibaCorp's reputation and their own, not to mention his.*
*He smiled at seeing their reaction. He had a feeling they would understand. He frowned,* "Are you sure you both are okay with this? With being with me both at the same time?" *They nodded.*
"We have always shared everything, Kaiba." *Replied Ama.*
"Plus, that way we can open and above board with you both, without you having to worry about it. And yes, we are okay with you being intimate with us both." *Added Elise.*
*Kaiba looked at them strangely... Then scooped them in and kissed them.* "Good, because I plan on seizing this opportunity fully." *He remarked, then let them go.* "Now let's head back before Mokuba falls asleep in the car. We'll talk more tomorrow."
*Ama and Elise nodded and followed him back to the cars. After bidding everyone good night, they left, smiling warmly. Both looked forward towards the next days and the blooming relationship between them and Kaiba.*

i love seeing my non-ygo followers in my notes going "what the actual Fuck happens in yugioh" because there is no adequate way to answer that question. everything happens. everything you can possibly think of that could ever happen, happens in yugioh.
wait a minute ok. i was about to start listing a bunch of absurd shit that goes down in this series but instead i'm just going to make my point by making it everybody else's problem instead

The Dragonrider [Seto Kaiba x OC fanfiction] - Chapter 4: White Night
Tumblr media
Summary: After two failed attempts at talking to Seto Kaiba, Nyra returns to the realms of dragons to seek the Elders' guidance.
Tumblr media
If everything works out, I'll be able to post Chapter 5: Differences this week as well, but until that, here is a little teaser:
“A dragonlord?” Kaiba’s eyes flashed sharply as he leaned closer to Nyra. It seemed she had spoken the magic word, because the CEO's interest was no longer feigned. “So you came to me to make me a dragonlord?”

How to Train Your Dragon (to Swim) 🌊[Event Day 4]
Written for #ASplashOfSummer2025 Yugioh event.
@asplashofsummer2025
Tumblr media
Day 4: Free Pass 🌊
During the two-day-long trip on the Kaiba brothers' private island, Seto Kaiba decides to teach his dragon how to swim. However, Nyra has little idea of how much trust it will demand, or how intimate the act of swimming can be with someone she holds dear.
Characters: Seto Kaiba, Original Character (Nyra), Mokuba Kaiba, Yugi Mutou, Anzu Mazaki, Katsuya Jounouchi, Ryou Bakura, Marik Isthar
Pairings: Seto Kaiba/Nyra, minor Ryou Bakura/Marik
Beach Holiday, Learning to Swim, Slice of Life, Romance, Fluff, Humor
Note: This is a translation, the original was written in Hungarian.
Note 2: The Dragonic language I used is actually High Valyrian from G.R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire world, I do not own it!
Read it on AO3, or here, under the cut:
“Come on, Nyra!”
“No!”
“Just three damn steps!”
“Not a chance!”
“Heh, so you were just talking big a moment ago.”
“No, but I still don’t trust you not to drag me straight into the deep water!”
Nyra stood with trembling legs in the knee-deep waves, her gaze darting between Seto Kaiba’s outstretched hand, their splashing friends around them, and the endless expanse of water reaching far beyond the horizon.
How could she possibly have thought, even for a moment, that it was a good idea for Seto to teach her how to swim in the ocean, of all places? Especially when the Kaiba Manor’s outdoor pool would have been perfectly suitable for that. Or the jacuzzi. Or the bathtub.
“Don’t be scared, Nyra!” Mokuba circled around her like a shark, trying to encourage her. “Do you really think we all would just stand here and watch you drown?”
“That's right! We'll take care of you, Nyra-chan!” Anzu winked at her. She was standing waist-deep in the water, next to the inflatable mattress where Yugi had been lying, until Joey attempted to climb on as well. The result was that the blond boy tipped forward with a loud splash, landing face-first in the water, from where only his red swim trunks covered backside was sticking out.
Nyra burst out laughing at the sight, even forgetting about her panic for a moment. Only then did she realize the danger still hadn't subsided when she suddenly heard the quiet trickle of water nearby, and before she could process what was happening, long fingers wrapped around her forearm.
A strong hand pulled her farther away from the shore, to which Nyra let out a startled squeak but made no real attempt to resist. Squeezing her eyes shut, she braced herself for the worst, perhaps her head to be pushed underwater. But instead, the fingers trailed down her arm under the surface, settling gently around her waist, and a body warmer than hers pressed close against her own.
When she finally gathered the courage to open her eyes, she found herself staring directly into irises that seemed bluer than the ocean surrounding them, as they descended neck-deep into the otherwise stomach-deep water. Panicking, she clutched at Seto with both hands, digging her nails into his shoulders.
“Hey, easy! Even your feet can reach the bottom here,” he tried to soothe her, though he hissed at the end. “And get those claws out of my shoulder already!”
“Then take me back to the shore!” Nyra whimpered, nuzzling her face under his chin with her eyes closed. Her rider’s proximity, the warmth of his skin and the slow rhythm of his breathing calmed her enough to dare to open her eyes.
Seto, however, had chosen that very moment to turn her towards the beach so she could witness Marik and Bakura walking hand in hand from the sand into the waves, passing Mokuba, then the trio of Yugi, Anzu, and Jounouchi. Once they reached waist-deep water, the Egyptian boy pulled his white-haired boyfriend over him, and the two of them disappeared together under the surface. They stayed submerged for a while, then began swimming side by side along the shore, away from the group.
“See them? You could learn from their example.”
“Gladly, but Marik and Bakura clearly have no fear of death like I do,” Nyra grumbled. Still, despite her reluctance to venture farther into the water, she was starting to feel surprisingly at ease like this, being this close to Seto Kaiba.
This time his arms wrapped securely around her stomach, his thumb grazing lightly along the line of her ribcage. Nyra dug her toes deeper into the sandy bottom as Seto’s chin came to rest on the top of her head, his chest pressing against her back. She could feel the vibration of his voice resonate through her whole body as he spoke.
“And why is that, ñuha zaldrīzes?* Don’t you feel safe in my arms?”
“Of course I do, ñuha āeksio.* But you know perfectly well that—” she began, but didn’t get the chance to finish. For Seto had once again turned her to face him, sliding both his hands into hers as he began to step back, dragging her along with him. The dragon girl gasped in terror as her feet left the security of the sea bottom, and a moment later, thanks to the CEO’s steady guidance, she was floating on the surface of the water.
“Come on, Nyra! You can do it!” she heard Yugi’s encouraging shout from somewhere behind her.
As they swam, Nyra squeezed Seto's fingers underwater. This time, he was either enduring the pain well, or her grip wasn’t as strong as she thought. One thing was certain: the dragon girl was still afloat, while her rider kept backing so deep into the waves that now, as he was standing straight, they reached his shoulders. That meant Nyra’s feet couldn’t possibly reach the bottom anymore, and the thought rendered her to squirm.
“That’s a good start, but if you pedaled your feet evenly instead of kicking around, you’d actually stay afloat,” Seto remarked with a mocking smile. “Even without my help.”
“It’s easy to sa—uhhgff…” she began, but her mouth filled with salt water as the next wave slapped against her face.
“You’re right. You can manage to drown yourself even when I’m holding you with both hands. That’s quite the achievement.”
Once Nyra sputtered the water out, anger flashed in her eyes as she looked up into her rider's playfully sparkling irises, which stood in sharp contrast to his stern expression.
“Oh, what you're going to get for this once we're on dry land again...!”
“You scared me to death,” Seto kept teasing. “You know, my dear dragon, right now you look like anything but the dangerous beast whose wrath I should fear.”
Nyra could only gape at that.
“But…” Seto’s mocking smile softened as he lowered his arms to his sides, letting the dragon girl drift closer. “You’re still my helpless little beast.”
She realized they were heading back towards the shallows this time, but she paid that no mind. She was enjoying her rider’s closeness too much to care about anything else.
“What’s up, Nyra, can you swim already?” Mokuba paddled up beside them. He then flipped onto his back and lazily circled the pair in backstroke, prompting Nyra to finally lift her head.
“No need to show off,” she stuck her tongue out. “You’re just like your brother.”
“Thanks, I’ll take that as a compliment!” the younger Kaiba laughed. Nyra didn’t need to see the older brother’s face to know he was smiling too.
But then Seto stepped away from her, instantly dragging her thoughts back to the problem at hand. The water reached the CEO’s chest, which meant it was deep enough that she could only brush the bottom with her toes at best. She tried anyway, without any success.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mokuba watch them for a little longer before, for some reason, deciding to swim off towards Yugi’s gang instead, paddling away with energetic strokes.
“So, Nyra…” Seto broke the silence, his baritone caressing the dragon-girl’s ears from the inside.
“Yes?”
“Now we’ll see what the darling of the White Night is really made of!”
“What do you—Seto!” she shrieked as her rider suddenly released her hands and backed away.
Nyra flailed in panic. The distance between her feet and the bottom of the sea stretched into infinity, and though her head was still above water, she couldn’t seem to breathe. She tried to imagine herself in her true form, a white dragon soaring across the blue sky, the beat of her wings slow and steady.
Then she began to fall.
Seto caught her wrist and yanked her back to the surface. Nyra gasped for air, only for him to retreat once more. The distance between them was only a few arm strokes, but to Nyra, it seemed miles.
She wanted to reach him. More than anything, she longed for those strong arms to wrap around her again, to feel the warmth of his body.
How strange, she thought, that she, a fearless dragon, craved so much for the protection of a mortal man. But that was exactly what the bond between a dragon and its rider meant.
Unconditional trust and attachment.
And even more than that.
She kicked her legs a few times, swinging her arms one after the other. Before she realized, she was back in Seto’s embrace, clinging to his neck like a lifeline.
“See? That wasn’t so bad!” His voice was surprisingly gentle, but as their chests pressed together underwater, Nyra couldn't tell whose heart was pounding harder.
“Don’t you ever do that again, Seto!”
“Why not? If I don't let go of your hand, you’ll never learn how to do it. And my plan worked perfectly.”
“If it means you’ll have to let go of me again, then I’d rather never learn to swim,” Nyra declared, burying her face in the crook of his neck. Seto's breathing quickened just a little, to which she lightly ran two fingers along the nape of his neck, relishing how his skin beneath the wet, chestnut strands broke out in goosebumps.
She smiled into the embrace. It felt good to know that even after two months, her words still had such an effect on the great Seto Kaiba.
Her rider didn’t reply, not with words at least. Instead, he cupped her head in his hand, and when Nyra looked up at him, he rewarded her efforts with a slow, tender kiss.
And for Nyra, this was the greatest, sweetest reward a dragon could ever hope for from her rider. Or from her lover.

A Different Game 🏐[Event Day 2]

Day 2: Volleyball Tournament 🏐
During the gang's vacation on the Kaiba brothers' private island, Jounouchi not-so-intentionally challenges Kaiba to a volleyball match. Is he going to accept it and put his pride on the line, even if his secret weapon is the clumsiest being on Earth? Of course he is!
Characters: Seto Kaiba, Original Character (Nyra), Mokuba Kaiba, Yugi Mutou, Anzu Mazaki, Katsuya Jounouchi, Ryou Bakura, Marik Isthar
Pairings: Seto Kaiba/Nyra, Yugi Mutou/Anzu Mazaki, minor Ryou Bakura/Marik Ishtar (but this is rather a genfic honestly)
Beach Holiday, Slice of Life, Slight Romance, Humor
Note: This is a translation, the original was written in Hungarian.
Read the story under the cut!
The tropical sun was bright above the Pacific island owned by the Kaiba brothers. They were well into the first afternoon of their two-day vacation when the group decided they’d had enough swimming and card games for now, and it was time to look for a different kind of fun. When Mokuba informed them that there was a beach volleyball court just a little further up the shore, the choice was obvious.
“I’ll pass,” Kaiba dismissed the idea immediately. He had just settled back onto his sun lounger under the shade of a parasol and was about to reach for his laptop to finally get some work done.
“Come on, Nii-sama!” Mokuba begged. Right beside him, Nyra—Kaiba’s white dragon in human form—had her pleading, icy blue eyes fixed on him, while Yugi, Anzu, and Bakura lined up behind them.
Jounouchi remained in the background, tossing the ball from one hand to the other.
“Y’all just wastin’ time on beggin’ Moneybags if he ain’t wanna play. Besides, it’s better for everybody if he don’t kill the vibe on the court,” he said, but his expression betrayed just how much he wanted to face Kaiba in a volleyball match.
“How about we do three-on-four rotating teams?” Marik suggested as he returned, sipping on a Sex on the Beach and handing another glass to Bakura.
"Well, if we really can't convince Kaiba-kun..." Yugi turned back to his friends with disappointment. The others hummed and nodded in agreement. Nyra, however, kept her eyes on her rider, tucking a saltwater-damp strand of wavy hair behind her ear.
At that moment, the ball popped out of Jounouchi's hand, and his attempt to catch it only made things worse: he accidentally smacked it, sending it even further away. The volleyball drew a graceful arc in the air, before landing on the top of Seto Kaiba’s head, then rolling across the laptop in his lap and down into the sand.
Most of the crew instinctively looked away, not wanting to see what was about to come. Anzu covered her mouth with her hand.
But much to everyone’s surprise, Kaiba didn’t yell, nor did he leap to his feet to lecture Jounouchi, who stared at him in shock with the faintest trace of guilt in his eyes.  Instead, the CEO slowly closed his laptop, set it aside, then stood up with measured movements. He exhaled sharply, the sound loud in the tense silence.
“Should I take that as a challenge, Amateur?” he asked, his voice dangerously calm as his piercing gaze locked on the blond.
Jounouchi blinked in surprise, but a sly grin quickly spread across his face.
“Y-yeah, of course! In case you didn't know, I hit you on purpose, Kaiba! I knew you’d take the bait.”
The brunet chuckled softly with eyes closed, before bending down to pick up the ball.
“As clumsy as you are, I highly doubt that. But you know what? For your sake, Jounouchi, I’ll join in for a round, so I can prove that no matter the game or sport, I’m still leagues above you.”
“Do you mean…?” Yugi’s eyes lit up, while Mokuba and Nyra gave a high-five.
“Exactly.” Kaiba’s eyes burned with the same obsessive fire that they did every time he faced a worthy opponent in a duel. Only this time, it wasn’t about quick thinking, choosing the best strategy or having luck. Now they were going to play volleyball.
Without breaking eye contact with the blond, he issued his orders:
“Yugi, take the Amateur and two others; Mokuba, Nyra, and one more, you’re with me. Jounouchi begged for this, and now he’ll get it: I’ll crush him into the sand, once and for all!”
Soon, the teams took their places on the court: Yugi, Jounouchi, Anzu, and Bakura lined up against Kaiba, Mokuba, Nyra, and Marik.
“Is it really okay if I’m playing against you, Marik-kun?” the white-haired boy asked a little sadly, glancing at his boyfriend standing on the other side of the net, clearly eager to start the match at any moment.
“It’s just a game, Ryou,” the Egyptian waved it off, then did a few shoulder circles as a warmup. “But don't worry, I'll make it up to you after we beat you!” he winked at him.
“You wish!” Anzu shot back. “In case you didn't know, I'm pretty good at any sport.”
“You are a good dancer, I’ll give you that. But you’re no match for Nii-sama when it comes to volleyball!” Mokuba called over, his smug tone eerily similar to his brother’s.
“Not like he's got a choice. He gotta to show off his talent, since he’s at a serious disadvantage with two midgets on his team. Especially with her.” Jounouchi jabbed a finger at Nyra, who pouted in response.
“We’ll see about that! Besides, you’ve got a midget in your team too!”
“Hey…!” Yugi began to protest, but Kaiba cut him off.
“Are you going to serve today, or what?” he asked dryly, rolling up the sleeves of his unbuttoned shirt.
With that, the first set began. Anzu delivered a flawless serve, the ball aimed to land right in the gap between the four opponents—if the CEO hadn't jumped two steps to return it. Yugi managed to save it from hitting the ground, though the ball lost momentum halfway, leaving it to Jounouchi to pass it back instead.
It should have been Nyra’s turn to return it next, but when Marik noticed the girl was nowhere near the ball, he acted quickly and helped her out. Bakura passed the ball back with some difficulty, and it successfully landed in the sand barely half a meter from Mokuba's feet.
“One point here!” Jounouchi whooped.
“Sorry, Nii-sama!” Mokuba turned back, but his brother only let out a low, displeased growl. It was obvious to the entire gang that if anyone else had made a similar mistake, they would’ve already gotten an earful.
Anzu served again. This time, Nyra was the first to reach the ball on the other side, and with Mokuba and Marik’s help, they sent it back over. Jounouchi received it with ease, but Kaiba, with a powerful jump, slammed it down hard—the ball crashed into the sand right between Yugi and Bakura. He then claimed the right to serve with a smug, triumphant grin.
The back-and-forth went on for quite some time, during which it became clear that Seto Kaiba wasn't just talking big, he actually had some talent for the game. Perhaps less surprising was that Yugi Mutou proved to be a real threat to him only in Duel Monsters—this time, Jounouchi, or even the perpetual cheerleader, Anzu, presented a much greater challenge for him. Kaiba wasn't exactly happy that it was the Amateur whose moves he had to watch out for the most, yet it didn’t hold him back from spreading his sarcastic remarks.
“Well, well, I'm impressed! Looks like there is something you're not completely hopeless at,” he scoffed.
"I'd hold my tongue if I were you, Kaiba," Jounouchi snarled. “In case you didn’t notice, we're just one point away from victory."
By the end of the first set, Mokuba finally started to get into it, and among the pair of Marik and Bakura, clearly the Egyptian was the more skilled one. Even so, the white-haired boy kept trying, occasionally scoring points, other times the ball ended up caught in the net.
The clumsiest by far, however, was undoubtedly Nyra, but no one, not even Kaiba held it against her. Except for Anzu, everyone present had already seen the dragon in her true form, and not for a moment did they question that her talent lay elsewhere, not in ball games. Which is why, whenever the volleyball came her way, she either let it land in the sand, screamed, or lunged in a desperate attempt to send it over to the opponent’s side—usually ending in an awkward fall.
The first set was ultimately won by Yugi’s team, while Kaiba’s took the second. Everything came down to the third, which had been intense from the very beginning.
At one point, when Yugi’s team was in the lead, the spiky-haired boy and Anzu—both in the front row—jumped for the ball at the same time: the result was a huge collision, and the ball landed on the ground behind them. Anzu tried to get up, rubbing her achy head, but the weight pressing down on her kept her pinned.
“Yugi…”
When she looked up, she was surprised and increasingly flustered to find Yugi sprawled across her, his bare torso pressing against her tummy. Everyone around them laughed, while her friend sprang to his feet as quickly as he could, his tomato-red face likely visible even from the neighboring island. Nevertheless, to satisfy the already impatient Mokuba, he helped Anzu to her feet and tossed the ball to the boy so he could finally serve.
Bakura passed, Marik returned it, and Jounouchi’s well-aimed shot was barely blocked by Kaiba. Neither team could be certain of victory.
But somehow, Yugi’s side pulled ahead again, and much to the CEO’s dread—who just couldn’t allow Yugi and the Amateur to beat him—the ball soared straight towards Nyra.
He watched with bated breath as his dragon prepared herself to receive it, her hands positioned correctly for once. Regardless, he was ready to jump in at any moment to intervene, even considering pushing her aside if he must. But there was no need for that: Nyra managed to send the ball cleanly over the net, and Bakura failed to catch it.
The dragon girl was so proud of having scored a point that she hardly cared that she staggered from the force of the hit, then promptly tripped over her own feet. Just as she braced for a hard landing on her bum, two strong arms reached under her shoulders, and her back collided with a firm chest. A shiver ran down Nyra’s spine—she didn’t even need to turn around to know who her savior was.
“Clumsy little dragon,” her rider murmured into her ear. Nyra spun around and, without a word, stood on her tiptoes, clutching at his shoulders as she planted a grateful kiss on his cheek.
“Kaiba-kun, did you just…?” Yugi exclaimed in shock, astonished to witness his old rival react just as awkwardly to Nyra’s closeness as he had to Anzu's. Marik laughed heartily at both of them before waving his arm.
“Hey, pass the ball already! Let me serve the winning shot!”
And he did. But dinner was still a long way off; there was plenty of time for a rematch. Or two.

Two Days of Peace🔥[Event Day 1]
Written for #ASplashOfSummer2025 Yugioh event. @asplashofsummer2025
Tumblr media
Day 1: Bonfire 🔥
Summary: Seto Kaiba is a notorious workaholic. What happens when his little brother and Nyra, his shapeshifter dragon somehow convince him to spend a weekend on a tropical island with the gang?
Pairings: Seto Kaiba/OC (Nyra, shapeshifter dragon), Yugi Mutou/Anzu Mazaki, minor Ryou Bakura/Marik Ishtar.
The story is under the cut.
In mid-August, summer was still in full swing. The heatwave still persisted,  proving to the residents of Domino City that the days of sweltering heat, cloudless blue skies, long walks in shady parks, and lazy afternoons on the beach were far from over. Summer break in schools was still ongoing for two more weeks, so wherever one went in the city, they would inevitably run into students; while the luckier part of the working class was now enjoying their turn of one or two weeks of vacation.
For CEOs, however, there was no such thing as summer breaks. Especially not for those who, in addition to running a world-leading tech company, had also taken on the conflict of a parallel world, where dragons were preparing to kill dragons in an impending war. And he, Seto Kaiba, had formed an alliance with the white dragons—those beautiful, majestic creatures—to lead them to victory as one of their riders in the coming battles against the red dragons.
The particular specimen he had chosen as his mount (or, more accurately, the one who had chosen him), this stubborn and dangerous shapeshifting beast who, for over two months now, had nestled herself not only into his house but, as Seto was slowly forced to admit, into his heart as well.
“Seto!” purred a melodic, medium-pitched voice from behind him. Two ice-cold hands reached over the backrest of the couch to wrap around his neck, just tight enough to let him breathe. Seto nearly dropped the laptop resting on his knees.
Though he had long since grown accustomed to the fact that the dragon girl’s touch was unusually cool even in her human form, the pleasant shiver that shot down his spine every single time was something he could never quite get used to.
“I don’t know what you want, Nyra, but I already told you I’m busy tonight,” he said, gently but firmly prying away the fingers that had been fiddling with the hem of his shirt.
“Why?” the dragon pouted, reluctantly letting go of his neck before settling down beside him on the couch.
On his other side, Mokuba hung upside down, his feet propped up against the backrest, mashing his controller, his face gradually reddening from the blood rushing to his head. Seto decided to give his little brother another full minute before turning him back into a normal sitting position.
“Because, thanks to your little war, I’m nearly a week behind on reviewing the reports. How am I supposed to attend meetings when I don't even know what statistics my middle managers are trying to dazzle me with?”
“I thought mortals valued Friday nights,” Nyra retorted sulkily.
“I love Friday nights!” Mokuba chimed in, but all he earned for drawing attention to himself was Seto giving a subtle tug to his leg, without even looking. The movement tipped him sideways, and his in-game character paid the price, missing the platform mid-jump and plunging into the abyss. “Hey! I was almost at the next checkpoint!”
“Believe me, Nyra," Seto began, ignoring his brother’s complaint, “I’d value Friday nights too. And I will, once I no longer have to spend every spare minute in the simulation room practicing flight and close combat. Then I’ll have my fun.”
“Oh, sure. You, having fun… But hey, I wouldn’t mind going home this weekend either,” Nyra shrugged before leaning against the backrest, stretching with a long, lazy motion. Seto couldn’t help glancing sideways to catch her oddly elegant movement, before drawing a deep breath and forcing his attention back to the documents open on his laptop.
“We agreed to go over every other weekend, so forget it for this one. I’ll change the schedule only when the White Council finally allows me to make KaibaCorp satellites, Solid Vision, or at the very least, a stable internet connection available across the realms.”
Nyra, who had at least gotten to the point in the past two months where she understood what Seto was talking about, first blinked in confusion, then burst out laughing, to which Mokuba soon joined. The older Kaiba felt a vein in his temple start to throb.
“What’s so funny?” he growled.
“Just that you’re hopeless,” Nyra snorted with all the wisdom of an ancient dragon.
“Me? Hopeless?” Seto was about to fire back a cutting remark, but his brother piled on.
“She’s right, Nii-sama! Summer’s almost over, and we’ve barely done anything together! We hardly ever leave the house.”
“And where exactly do you want to go at nine in the evening, Mokuba? Already told you, night clubs aren’t for you yet…”
“No, not tonight! I mean tomorrow.”
Seto raised an eyebrow, looking from his brother to Nyra, who had leaned closer meanwhile. The matching, mischievous gleam of their eyes promised nothing good.
“Yes, even I say the weather’s nice, and you know how much I hate the heat!” Nyra added enthusiastically, her long, wavy hair brushing against Seto’s arm.
“That’s right! Come on, Nii-sama, let’s enjoy the rest of the summer while we can!”
Partly to avoid Nyra’s unsettling closeness—since she clearly wasn’t planning to leave his personal space—and partly to get both of them into his field of vision, the CEO leaned back against the couch and sighed heavily, bracing himself for the worst.
“Fine, let’s hear it. Where do you want to go tomorrow?”
Mokuba and Nyra exchanged a glance, then exclaimed in unison:
“To the beach!”
Tumblr media
The KaibaCorp private jet arrived in the early afternoon at an island lying slightly east of Okinawa, owned by the Kaiba brothers. Years ago, back when their adoptive father still controlled the company, this island—like so many others—served as an important military base and technology station.
When Seto took over, he leveled nearly all such places to the ground. This one, however, he spared, and at Mokuba’s urging, built a private resort on it where they could retreat from the world whenever they felt like it. In truth, though, over the past four years, it only happened twice.
As soon as they landed and left the small runway, Seto’s lungs immediately filled with air far more humid and salty than what he was used to in Domino City, while the blazing sun warmed his face. Mokuba, however, didn’t give his senses the chance to slowly adjust to vacation mode—in the next moment, he grabbed his brother’s arm and dragged him toward the beach.
Once they were settled under a huge parasol, Seto—now wearing knee-length, white swim trunks with the KaibaCorp logo and a half-buttoned white shirt—was already reaching for the bag to take out his laptop, deciding that he’d had enough of the “summer mood” and it was time to get back to work. Nyra, however, who had changed into a pale blue bikini in the meantime, immediately snapped at him.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“What does it look like?” Seto grumbled without even looking up from his inbox he had just opened. “I kept my promise and left the house. But I never said I wouldn't work while sitting on the beach. So, if you'll excuse me…”
Meanwhile, Mokuba had half-heartedly applied sunscreen to his shoulders and face, and now stood by his sun lounger, ready to dash into the waves at any moment.
“But Nii-sama!” he protested. “Why did you even bring your laptop? We agreed this weekend we would be relaxing…”
“Tell me instead, why did we even bring them?” Seto cut him off, jerking his head towards Yugi Mutou and his crew, who were unpacking just a few meters away.
The spiky-haired duelist was accompanied by no fewer than four friends. Much to Seto’s delight, Jounouchi was among them; along with the ever-annoying Anzu; the useless guy, Bakura; and Marik, who had apparently decided not to bask on the golden dragons’ sand dunes but instead to tag along with the group, making little effort to hide his intent to spend some quality time with his white haired boyfriend.
“Because the more the merrier,” Mokuba shrugged.
“That’s right! You didn’t think you could leave us outta the fun, did you, Kaiba?” Jounouchi yelled over, who seemed to have no trouble with his hearing, at least.
Meanwhile, Anzu adjusted her pink one-piece swimsuit and pulled Yugi down onto a sun lounger by the wrist so she could thoroughly apply sunscreen to his back. The boy tensed from head to toe, enduring her moderately forceful touch, while Seto found himself wondering if he looked the same whenever Nyra touched him like that. He quickly decided that the very thought of comparing them was ridiculous.
No. He was not that pathetic when it came to the opposite sex. He couldn't even afford to show weakness around them, considering that, after a well-aimed toss of Anzu, the sunscreen bottle flew in a perfect arc, hitting the Amateur square in the head; while the other female present… Well, in her true form, was his fifteen-meter tall dragon.
Taking a deep breath, Seto leaned back and tried to shut out the chaos of the gang now chasing and splashing each other in the shallow water, to which Bakura and Marik joined as well. He barely managed to open the latest R&D report when two pale hands snatched the laptop from his grasp, their owner already backing away towards the water.
“Nyra, what the hell?!” Seto barked, rising from the lounger, his feet sinking into the hot sand. “Give that back. Now.”
The dragon only shook her head slyly, and from the corner of his eye, Seto saw Mokuba grinning like the traitor he was.
“You can have it, my dear rider,” Nyra said with a wink, “after you’ve had a swim with me.”
“You can’t even swim,” Seto pointed out, stepping closer.
“Then your laptop will keep me afloat,” she countered, retreating further.
“I doubt that. You’ll both sink, and I’ll be stuck looking for a new laptop and a new dragon.”
“What a shame that would be,” Nyra shook her head, now ankle-deep in the water.
Seto stared her down for a long, unblinking moment—even as Marik, dashing between him and Mokuba, nearly collided with him. He clenched his fist briefly, then, with a sharp exhale, swiftly unbuttoned and removed his shirt, tossing it carelessly onto the lounger.
At first, Nyra watched him approach with a satisfied smile, while Seto was already savoring the delicious anticipation of his revenge. Her eyes soon widened in shock as her rider caught up to her, placed one hand on her shoulder, the other on her waist, and pulled her close. Feeling the coolness of her skin electrified Seto, but instead of letting himself relish the sensation, he gave her a delicate kiss on the lips, right then and there, in front of everyone.
He heard Jounouchi whistle, Bakura and Marik hoot, Anzu and Yugi clap. He didn’t care.
Taking advantage of Nyra’s complete distraction by the tender gesture, her breath hitching as she kissed him back, Seto deftly retrieved the laptop from her grasp.
“I suggest you put on some sunscreen yourself, my dragon,” he murmured in her ear, “or you’ll be the first one roasted in the sun.”
As he stepped back, he noted with deep satisfaction that it wasn’t the sun that had turned her cheeks that vivid shade of red.
After that, knowing that he could no longer focus on work, he left the water only long enough to secure his laptop. When he returned, he squeezed Nyra’s hand and, yielding to his little brother's urging, threw himself into the waves.
Perhaps this lazy afternoon wouldn’t be so terrible after all.
Tumblr media
Not long after sunset, the group gathered around the beach bonfire. The afternoon and early evening had passed in the blink of an eye, something Yugi attributed to the fact that time always seemed to fly in good company. He had swum, laughed, walked, and played ball so much that by now he had no strength left in him. Deciding to chill for the rest of the evening, he settled down by the fire, which had been set up a good twenty meters from the beach.
There was, of course, a luxury holiday home on the island, with enough rooms for all eight of them to sleep comfortably, but except for Kaiba, everyone agreed it would be far more atmospheric to camp on the seaside. For a brief moment, Yugi had worried that they wouldn’t be able to convince his old rival, that he might withdraw on his own to the house despite Mokuba and Nyra’s intention to stay, but in the end, that did not happen.
After dinner, Bakura and Marik set out for a long walk along the moonlit shore—and Yugi had to admit, it was breathtakingly beautiful. He would have loved to take a similar stroll with Anzu, but he didn’t dare to ask. Not that he feared rejection—he had long known that the girl wasn’t indifferent about him either—but rather that they would have nothing to talk about, and the situation would be rather awkward than romantic.
By the time he had gathered enough courage to ask, Anzu had already announced that she was going to take a shower to wash off the salt water. After that, they spent some time together with the others, before the brunette girl retreated to her small tent. Jounouchi soon followed her example, when he finally succumbed to the food coma and disappeared into the tent the boys were using.
That left only four of them by the fire: Nyra, Mokuba, Kaiba, and Yugi himself. But before long, the younger Kaiba declared he felt like playing on his Nintendo, so he slipped into the ultramodern luxury tent he shared with his brother and Nyra. The dragoness, too, didn’t stay much longer either: after picking the starfish and small shells collected by the boys out of her hair, she called it a night as well. Yugi couldn’t help but notice how, despite Kaiba’s neutral expression, his eyes followed every movement of hers until she finally vanished into the tent. Only then did he turn his attention back to the bonfire, when he and Yugi were left alone at last.
“Thank you for bringing us all here, Kaiba-kun. It was very kind of you,” he broke the silence that had fallen upon the shore. Kaiba glanced at him, his blue eyes reflecting the orange-red glow of the flames, but his expression remained stoic.
“Thank Mokuba and Nyra,” he finally replied, leaning back in his camping chair. “They were the ones who insisted on taking this little trip. I would’ve been perfectly content spending the whole weekend in my office.”
“Come on, you need a little break too sometimes!” Yugi sent him a gentle smile. He noted to himself that no matter what kind of parallel-world conflict his rival was dragged into, he was still the same workaholic, who could be lured away from his desk only by the promise of an adrenaline-fueled duel.
For a moment, Yugi was tempted to suggest another match (the current score stood at 2-2), but then, guided by a sudden impulse, he chose to take a different path instead.
“Can I ask you something, Kaiba-kun?”
“If you must,” Kaiba sighed with resignation.
For a few long seconds, broken only by the soft rhythm of the waves, Yugi let his eyes wander over the sky dotted with millions of stars.
“You know, there's something that's been bugging me for a while. For the past two years actually. I heard things… especially in the months following the Aigami-incident.”
For the briefest moment Kaiba seemed to tense, but it easily could have been only Yugi’s imagination.
“What are you talking about, Yugi?” he growled ominously.
Unfazed, the spiky-haired boy dragged his chair closer until his knee nearly brushed against the brunet’s leg.
“Tell me, Kaiba-kun… Is it true that you used Aigami-kun’s Quantum Cube? Did you really cross into the Afterlife? Did you really meet Him?”
Kaiba’s gaze shifted to the flames, as though he saw something in them that no one else could. So long did he remain silent that Yugi began to think he wouldn’t get an answer at all. But then Kaiba gave the slightest of nods, and Yugi’s heart started to pound.
So he did it? He really did it? He saw Atem? What was he like? What was the Afterlife like?
He had so many questions, but he knew that Kaiba wouldn't go into long stories, no matter how much he begged. For a fleeting moment, he regretted ignoring Jounouchi’s idea to get the CEO tipsy on Tequila Sunrise, but it was far too late for that now.
“So… did you duel him?” Yugi finally asked, voicing probably the most natural question he could manage to come up with.
“You think I went there for a picnic? Of course we dueled.”
Yugi leaned in so close that, despite the darkness, he could see every subtle flicker of expression on Kaiba’s sharp features. He had no idea where he found the courage to hit such an intimate tone with the notoriously aloof Kaiba. Perhaps it was the tropical island and the fact that they had spent the weekend together, far from Domino. Or simply the certain kind of intimacy only a bonfire could create. Either way, he took it as a good sign that Kaiba didn’t pull away.
“And… did you defeat him, Kaiba-kun?”
His rival turned his head away and smiled with his eyes closed. When he opened them again, only then did he reply.
“What do you think?”
Yugi wasn't sure what he was hoping for when he asked the question, but the answer still brought a genuine smile to his face.
“But let me guess: the moment you knew you had succeeded, that the victory was yours… You no longer wanted to defeat him. Am I right, Kaiba-kun?”
Kaiba turned toward him so suddenly that Yugi involuntarily pulled back.
“How could you possibly—”
“—know? Because I felt the exact same way. Back then, in that very moment. I spent years trying to step out of his shadow, and when I finally succeeded, I no longer wanted to surpass him. I think that was where his true strength lay.”
His rival opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, they heard footsteps approaching from the campsite. Both boys turned their heads to see Nyra emerging from the shadows, barefoot on the sandy-grassy ground, wearing a simple white dress that was possibly her nightgown.
“Aren't you coming to bed, Seto?” she murmured drowsily. Yugi couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“I’ll stay a little longer,” Kaiba said, leaning back again. Somehow he seemed relieved by the dragon girl’s presence.
“Then I will too,” Nyra announced, then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, she walked closer to the boys and, without a word, curled up in Kaiba's lap like a cat, leaning her head against his shoulder. What startled Yugi wasn’t that Nyra so casually entered his rival’s private space, but that Kaiba allowed it, he even put an arm carefully around her waist to cradle her even closer.
Not that he didn’t know about the nature of their relationship—in fact, he was the one encouraging Nyra not to give up on her feelings for him, even after the painful realization of their different lifespans. Still, seeing this side of Seto Kaiba hit differently.
A long silence fell upon them once again, while Yugi studied the couple in the light of the bonfire. He wasn't bothered by Nyra's presence, as he considered her a close friend, but the surprising intimacy of the moment left him somewhat uneasy. He wished he could also act so naturally around Anzu, but he just couldn’t. Especially since he knew that she would soon be flying back to New York to continue her dance studies, leaving him behind for months again.
Suddenly, a bitter lump formed in his throat as he realized how petty his longing really was. After all, Kaiba and his dragon were preparing for war. There may not be an ocean between them, but there is something else, something much deeper, something that could cause both of them much more pain, both literally and figuratively. That explained why, Kaiba could show affection so easily now: because he knew he might not have much time left for that.
“So, um…” Yugi cleared his throat. Two pairs of blue eyes fixed on him—one reflected slight boredom, the other curious and heavy with sleep. “How are the war preparations going? What’s the situation over there?”
Kaiba shrugged, prompting Nyra to nuzzle her face into his neck.
“Not much has changed. Dragons are slow to act. I’ve already suggested we strike first, before the red dragons can deploy their secret weapon, but the Elders won’t listen. They don’t want us to shed the first blood. Otherwise, everyone’s on alert. Sentries are lined up all over the Southern Borderlands, and Jorax pays us a visit every few days with the news, if there’s any.”
Yugi listened intently, then nodded. The more they spoke of it, the more real the threat became, and the harder it was for him to suppress the fear tightening his chest.
He may have already fought his own battles, but Kaiba clearly hadn’t. And he didn't want to see Nyra suffer either. Yet he was powerless to intervene, all he could do was support them as a friend—even Kaiba, whether he liked it or not.
“Say, Kaiba-kun… Aren’t you afraid?”
A derisive snort was his reply.
“Please, Yugi. Even if I were, what could I do about it? I knew what I was getting into, and there’s no turning back now. And once I enter the game, I’ll win. No matter what it takes.”
At his words, Nyra pressed herself even closer against him, and Kaiba stroked her arm with a subtle, barely noticeable movement. Maybe Kaiba wasn’t afraid—or at least he didn't show it—but his dragon clearly was, Yugi realized.
“I know you'll win, Kaiba-kun. I believe in you... in all of you. Besides, you made me a promise.”
“What promise?”
“That once the war is over, we’ll work on the Spherium Project together. And when it’s done, you’ll face me again!”
Kaiba’s expression remained unreadable for a long moment, then a sincere smile settled on his face. The kind Yugi had only rarely seen from him.
“And I’ll keep my word. I’ll return, Yugi. If only to show you, I can beat you even at your own game!”

Summary: After having a disturbing vision/nightmare, Seto spends some quality time with his little brother at the crack of dawn.

Hopefully, I can upload Chapter 4 next Friday, but I might be delayed because of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Summer event. Anyway, here is a little teaser for the next chapter, the White Night:
The snow-covered landscape appeared blindingly white, the sun standing high above her head—at this time of year, so close to Midsummer, it barely sank any lower, even during nighttime. This was the time of her order, the White Night. Nyra had come home.
