i'll add that i've observed that you're at all vocal about this annoying you, some people seem to think you're fully breaking into their house and telling them how to live their lives

i once had someone i was friendly with, whose m/m fics i read and liked, tell me they assumed i "secretly hated their guts" because i'd advocate for writing complex and rounded female characters in my own damn space, and idk man. what a wild thing to say to somebody who's been nothing but chill and enthusiastic towards you!

in general i think fans are allergic to men caring about women beyond them being an evil ex-girlfriend or a mother or a sister or a quirky wingman which is. frusterating. sometimes a man in a story has an interesting complex compelling relationship with a woman or they have a unique strong bond with one another but because fans don't view women as autonomous beings with internality and complex relationships she gets watered down to being one of like five stock archetypes.
