It's as soon as Kyouka responds that Sigma realizes that his question was a pretty useless one - Kyouka could be saying she knows him as Sigma, the former manager of the Sky Casino, or Sigma; the ex-terrorist and member of the Decay of Angels. And obviously, there's a very big difference between those two perceptions...

Although, seeing as the Casino has already been publicly exposed for terrorism, Sigma supposes that it might not make all that difference after all. But nobody gave him a second glance when he walked in here... why is that? Is is the result of Dazai's meddling, somehow? What did he do?

"Hmm? Oh... there's no need to thank me." he responds almost automatically, standing up straighter in an attempt to force some confidence into himself. He's always been an expert in faking a calm and collected image, and it's a little depressing to realize that that skill seems to have been failing him for a while now...

"Congratulations on your victory." ...Her victory over the claw machine, that is. But that's not the point. "I actually didn't seek you out on purpose. But... I feel I should apologize. For everything that happened at the Sky Casino... I am truly sorry."

As soon as he handed her the money, Kyouka wasted no time in accepting it and returning to the machine—-sharp eyes reevaluating every detail of the plushie landscape and reaffirming the feasibility of her plan. The yen inserted into the slot, the metal claw whirring to life and moving about in response to her input, the stuffed tiger hoisted by its unstable grip... and dropped closer to the goal. She repeated the motions, and this time, the plushie landed precariously on the wall separating it from freedom.

And if anyone caught a glimpse of a phantom hand tugging on its ear and saving it from its prison... no they didn't. While she generally avoided cheating ( because it ruined the satisfaction of a fair victory ), she could make an exception in this specific case, since she was just a hair away from winning and didn't have the funds to keep trying.

Once Kyouka claimed her prize, she turned her attention back to Sigma, a hand extended to return the remaining hundred yen. "...I know who you are," she confirmed—- a very belated answer, at this point. Did he think she'd just demand money from a complete stranger? Ah, speaking of... "Thank you."

The coughs that erupt violently from Ryuunosuke as he stumbles, barely able to keep his balance, are more painful than anything he's ever felt before.

Ryuunosuke is no stranger to pain - he knows it intimately, and it never leaves his side for long. So for a thought like that to cross his mind is no joke. Fortuately, the agony soon subsides as quickly as it came on; not leaving him entirely, but loosening it's grip on him until it becomes something he's more familiar with once more.

Still coughing, legs buckled inwards and grasping a hand against a wall for balance, Ryuunosuke can't help but feel grateful that Gin was the only one to see this. If it were anyone else... the thought alone makes him feel ill with disgust turned inwards, but if it's Gin - it's different. It always has been.

He's sure she must be worried. And she has good reason to be - the weight of the knowledge Ryuunosuke now possesses and the secrets held within him are heavy, barely believable even to himself, though he knows that they're real as surely as there are bones under his skin and blood in his veins. But he can't say everything at once. Instead, even though his mind is still racing and he can hear the sound of his heartbeat in his ears, he waits until he's recovered and stable enough to speak.

"...Gin... There's no need for concern. I'm- fine."

i want to write the akutagawa starters i owe SO BAD but i have no ideas for what to write.............. cries

"The job requires a lot of hard work. I've been told that I'm exceptionally talented, but really..."

Sigma trails off before he can finish his thought, uncertain if it's something he really wants to share. With the Sky Casino being so high-profile, most would expect it's manager to be someone impressive, and he's sure they're aware that the position is a demanding one - but quite how much work has gone into it is something he doesn't think people fully understand.

But Sigma is no man blessed by talent. Sometimes in the past he's felt like he's being torn by the seams, with the desperate lengths he's been driven to in keeping his home. And that's only within the short frame of it's existence, in spite of the world believing it had been around for years...

"...Well. I'm sure you must be a hard worker, too. Have you ever gambled yourself?"

Im back in my "throwing random shit that makes little to no sense for background" era

YOOOOOOOOO I JUST READ 55 MINUTES............ IT WAS SO GOOD??????? I LOVED IT

now granted i don't understand like at least half of wtf happened because it was so complicated, so i'll have to reread it and maybe look for summaries. but like. god. gab and wells my beloveds?????

...Cheerful. This girl... is so overwhelmingly cheerful.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. It's nice, to be honest, seeing people so happy - but Kyouka would be lying if she said it didn't make her feel a little off-footed as well. Or maybe it's just because she's being asked so quickly what she needs, and she doesn't know how to answer?

Honestly, she's not even fully sure what it is she wants to talk about. All of her anxieties are tangled up together in one huge mess, and teasing them apart is easier said then done... This is a cafe, though, so maybe to start, she should go with something obvious.

"I'd like some tea." she states simply, eyes boring into Chisato's with a serious gaze. It's a serious request, one of the upmost importance, even, as far as Kyouka's concerned. She bows once before speaking again, her uncertainty only causing her to hesitate once.

"And... some advice as well. If you don't mind. I heard that that was the sort of thing you do here...?"

Business had been slow for the past few days—-most of Chisato's colleagues took the day off, while Mika relaxed in a backroom and handled whatever owner stuff he needed to do. That left her to absentmindedly clean the tables for the third time that day, and she hummed a happy tune as she worked. Scrub, scrub! Scrub, scrub!

She perked up at the sound of the bell, almost expecting a regular yet delighted nonetheless to see a new face. Someone who asked for her by name, no less, and this girl was so cute! Chisato hopped up and left her rag on the counter, a bright smile adorning her face.

"The one and only!" she chirped, saluting, then gestured for the other to sit with her at the nearest table. "Chisato Nishikigi, at your service! What can I help you with?"

DAMN I WOKE UP BRAINROTTING ABOUT KYOUKA AND AKUTAGAWA FRIENDSHIP.............. i do not know what triggered this but i'm not complaining at all akfjsdfksdj

i am thinking about both like. them in more canon compliant setting just like. TALKING and kyouka coming to understand aku better, even if she knows the way he hurt her wasn't okay and she has the right to still be angry about it... i just want them to bond so bad.

BUT ALSO the weirdgirl area of my brain wants to come up with bizarre supernatural concepts again like. maybe kyouka had a past life and was reincarnated, and recalls her past life out of nowhere some day. akutagawa is involved too - either having had a similar past life himself, or inheriting some kind of "curse" or power/soul from the past due to being chosen for his characteristics as a person... and kyouka has to teach him about it and how to handle it................. idk where i'm going with this but man, i really wish i had it in me to write fic atm!!

also i didn't post it at the time of the chapter's release but like what if everyone in bsd had a past life. during bram's era specifically. what if everyone is a reincarnation. i'm thinking this specifically because of bram's flashback of his daughter who looked exactly like aya but like WHAT IF-
